It infuriates me as a lay person when i hear from farmers about not being able to use one product or another to best manage THEIR fields to provide US with home grown food…. Surely farmers aren’t going to spend money and waste diesel applying chemicals for fun and only do what’s best to grow the best crops with the best yield… Why the government gets involved with this is such an overreach….

So glad to see beans are in ground after all the preparation. Lets hope for dry sunny harvesting conditions. Very good "waffle" about Sugar Beet seed dressing and bigger picture. PX farms has similar point with OSR and flea beetle.

What a brilliant update! All of the measurements and technical considerations when planting, it’s absolutely baffling, so complex. Lovely to see you and Nala having a bit of down time in front of the TV, with the mower and the goslings in the background, a lovely place to live!

Did alot of seeding in oz years ago in my youth trying to keep up with sprayer with pre emerge, no working clock in the tractor and thought later into the night it was coming light!! Ended up doing a 24 hr shift!! 😂These days I wake up just in time for a snooze!!! Thanks Andrew!!

Enjoyed this one chap. I get the feeling that we might see a few beans down here in East Anglia at some point. Looks like you may have had some storms again today. We did around Ely but i took the pressent Mrs M for a drive over to Felixstowe Ferry for some lunch and a walk to get some sea air. It was a gorgeous day.
Tragic about the pilot that died yesterday at Coningsby. Not far from you i suppose.

    Good evening Andrew.
Glad to see you've managed to get the beans in and finished, it's one of those seasons when the weather allows it's a mad scramble to get things done. Like at my place, it might not be 100% perfect, but at least its in the ground and it's now down to mother nature to look after things. It'll be interesting to see what difference there is between the Amazone precision drill and you're drill when the crop emerges and goes through the growth stages?
Just wanted to touch on what you said about insecticides. I couldn't agree more, using chemicals that are targeted directly around the plant or within the plant is 100% better than a carpet spraying program. We're the ones doing the job, we're the ones farming so surely we generally know what's best.
Fingers crossed for some sunnier weather and a little bit less rain for us all. It felt like a winters day down here in Cornwall today.

It's a pity we can't eat weeds; sorry, companion plants How long can Black Grass and Wild Oat seed stay viable? With Wild Oats is it 10+ years? I can't remember. Too long maybe?
