- Today I took the Ford F100 Called CASPER over to my buddy Joe Davis's shop. We are going to give Casper some TLC and put a clear coat on the paint!
While there I dialed in the Progression Ignition HEI Distributor on the 408 Small block CHEVY Called PROJECT SLEEPER and then took it on its first test drive and let me tell you it runs and runs hard and sounds almost stock... We even scooped @DavidVizard up and took him for a ride!

A big Thank you to DV and Andy for helping make my little sleeper happen !
❤
Tearing up the neighborhood streets in a killer sleeper Malibu with a built 400 SBC and DV onboard, what a day!!
What a great Day for me having David onboard !
I built a 415 small block Chevy for an elderly neighbor's 1972 Monte Carlo years ago before all the easy stroker kits came about. Ran the double hump heads 2.02/1.60 valves and a mild hyd. cam to go with the stock auto trans. Ran the rams horn exhaust manifolds with 2.5 inch outlets and a painted orange to look stock Edelbrock Performer intake with a Quadrajet carb. It would scare the hell out of him when he put his foot in ti! A nice torque maker it was! Fine looking and running 67 Chevelle your buddy has! Back in the late 60's a young guy had a yellow 67 Chevelle with the 327/350 or it may have been called the 325 back then and had the black steel wheels on it with a 4 speed. Ran right well for back then.
I worked hard in my life and am fortunate to own a few old Muscle Cars now. One of them is a 66 Malibu SS with a ZZ 383 and a 5 speed Tremec TKX in it. The car is painted 76 Corvette bright yellow so you can see it from the moon. With Flowmaster 40s you can hear it coming for miles. I love cruising the back roads around home just like your doing there. Your red 67 is gorgeous and it is high on my want list in that color combination. Very cool that you were hanging out with those guys!
Exactly what hotrodding is all about. That car is simply beautiful.
I agree... It's about having fun and ending up with what you want!
Andy
Single plane intake. Quadrajet. Yep, I’d immediately be very suspicious ! Great job! 👍🏻👍🏻
One of my favorite year Chevelle. Killer Sleeper. Taking it to the streets, pedal to the metal
Tim it's a fun Car, even though I'm diehard blue-oval but since I helped Joe build it I'm kinda partial
Andy
Yea, those slicks completely give it away, or at least would make a smart man think twice...Next we need a time slip to tie it all together!
Nice dual wheel peel at the end! 😎
Stunning ✨ and I love the sound of a Quadrajet too! 🦶🏾
Nice ride, my '65 Impala has a 700R4 in it as well behind the sbc 383 I built for it, I love the way it runs. I went with an even smaller cam than the Chevelle's cam. But it still does 13.0s in the QM while getting 26 mpg on the highway traveling to the track with the converter locked. I believe I'll be in the high 12s when I replace the valve springs, it has the flat tappet springs that came with the Patriot Performance heads that are on it.
It has a Comp XFI hydraulic roller cam with 202°/212° in./ex. duration at .050" .550"/.546" in /ex. on an 113 LSA with the called for 1.6:1 rockers that are rollers. Topped with a RPM Airgap style dual plane, the Weiand one. Is fed with a Holley 850 double pumper tuned for fuel economy. Went from the original 283 rams horn exhaust manifolds into 2" dual exhaust to 1 5/8" headers with a 2 1/2" X pipe system and didn't drop my QM times at all. Also it has a 3.07:1 12 bolt with a posi added.
She runs on catpee 87 octane with no issues with the 9.6:1 compression it has. If I were to do this build again I would raise the compression to 10 to 10.5:1 and use 1.7:1 rockers with the proper valve springs.
I installed this engine in front of the factory Powerglide and the QM times were in the 14.0s until I took out first gear at Lapeer dragway. Made it home with it but it was very angry in first gear. Installed the 700 and she went a whole second faster in the QM! It gets 20 mpg just putzing around town if I keep my foot light, hard to do when it's in 1st gear though.😎👍
Throttle response is excellent. Crazy amount of torque! Look out, Beemers and tuners! 😀👍
I love the look of the engine compartment ...but it wouldn't fool anybody but a car salesman . The whole thing is just gorgeous . Well done on all counts !!
Thank you Sir
She's a RIPPER! What a beauty!
This engine combo is amazing! What a great upgrade idea for any car that came with a 305/700R4.
This channel never disappoints, I have learnt so much from watching your videos. Keep up the great work!!
Helluva Ride !⛽️🇺🇸✊🏼
It looks stock but because I know what it is the carb spacer catches my eye
She's sweet,my favorite year.Most everyone prefers the 70 or 71
I'm running a 400 SBC in my short bed square body with the normal upgrades, people tell me they have problems with the Head gaskets, I've had no problems it's a great engine in my opinion thanks for the video keep them coming
The 400 is a good engine! Once you get past 550-600hp they begin to have issues.. at least from what I have seen
Andy
Sweet car Andy! Nice paint job too. Now give Uncle Tony a ride in it. Lol
Must be nice to have cool neighbors!
Oh they expect that stuff from me..
Andy
She runs Real good!
A healthy 400 SBC with an overdrive and big gears like that is a perfect street combo. We're building one now to look like a stock DZ 302. As for the tires/wheels I have seen some guy in the steel wheel group on FB making dog dish adapters for painted Weld Drag Lites that look pretty darn stock.
That is awesome!
Andy
Polyurethane mounts are the best!
I have that exact same VDO tachometer. Works great very accurate. Iv'e had for over twenty years at least.
They are cool tachs!
Andy
That QJet makes it for me. Someone did a nice job on that transmission build.
Dean Oliver is the man on Q-jets
Tony Miller is pretty good!
Andy
Nice job. That thing is clean and deserves to be used for content
You will definitely see more of it!
Andy
Very cool ... I think I saw the wheels turning in DV’s head
They are always turning...
Sweet ride
A gorgeous car, that looks like a bundle of fun!
It's a really fun car!
Andy
Great project! Love it! Single v belt....brave.
Thanks Charlie! It turned out awesome.. it's time to hurt some feelings now
Andy
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage Video those hurt feelings...
You couldn't ask for a better street car. Well done.
The Silver Bullet on the M1 is actually more of a sleeper, if ya'll wanna go by the sound of the idle.
Nice looking rig, sounds excellent too, thanks for sharing, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
Andy
Really nice Clark Kent idle too.
Beautiful Car! 😍 400 Sbc Great Motor!
Andy, you seem to have more experience with Progression Ignition distributors than most on TH-cam. It would be great if you would do a video incorporating David's knowledge of ignition timing applied to the Progression distributor and show us the timing map you come up with. I know you've done some full power dyno tests but a full street drivability tune would be very interesting. I've already created my own and would be interested to see where I went wrong and where I nailed it.
I talked to Joe about that and that is exactly what we are going to do.
Thanks
Andy
Beautiful car! And a great build.
Thanks for the kind words

Beauty and the Beast, nice ride, great job guys 👍💪
Great job, I'm tuning on the cam upgrade " I got from you"
Great job you guys!
Thanks Don! Joe is super happy with the results
Andy
Wicked andy👨🏽🔧💪🏽 ❤️
Sweet car!!!
Very nice
Awesome work and great video!
Sweet ride! Love it
It needs full hubcaps to complete the sleeper look.
Unless it's a late night street racer ... I'd do my favorite wheels. Nobody would think that's unusual on a nice 67.
With the tires that are on the car for it to break the tires loose from a roll that engine is very strong.
Yeah if it had regular street tires it would spin for days... Lol
Andy
😍
Put some black Taylor plug wires on it to help with the sleeper effect.
That's going to happen !
WOW!
I'd love to see details on DV's work on the manifold turtle.
DV done some nice work on it also Andy done a lot of work on it also.
Andy has the video on the intake build
Here you go!

Andy
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage Thanks, Andy. What did you use to make that turtle out of, and how durable is it?
Nice!
Just think what the torque would be with that engine if it had a David Vizard spec’d 106° LSA cam instead of the compromised present 110° LSA cam.
His 700R4 wouldn’t last very long!
Target 350 rocker covers are a necessity ,,, !
Absolutely!
Andy
Sleeper? Those sticky Mickeys kinda make it look like a sleeping bear.... With a 408 Does that Qjet run out of fuel ever under power? I will say its beautiful and does look like some ol boomers cruiser not a street fighter. I would be in my glory having a legend like DV in my passenger seat complimenting my ride.
I had one just like it , paid 450 for it. I guess that tells you how old I am.
I know where that's a pretty nice one parked in a yard for at least 20 years.
Can't get it bought l.
Love it
Very nice! Beautiful car and it runs great! I hope you enjoy it for many years to come. Does it have a flat tappet cam or a roller? If a flat tappet, can you share what steps were taken to minimize the possibility of lobe failure?
mike jones roller
The only people you're fooling are the uninformed. The HEI distributor and a single plane intake are a dead giveaway. I helped a friend build a 66 Chevy 2 Nova in the early 90's. The motor consisted of a 2 bolt main 400 Small block, a Lunati forged 3.48 stroke crankshaft with 400 main journals, Carillo rods, Ross flat top pistons, Total Seal rings, a custom ground hydraulic roller cam with a .050 duration of 222 degrees intake and 238 degrees exhaust. Valve lift was .565 intake and .580 exhaust and a 106 lobe separation angle. The heads were World Products 200cc Intake ports and 64cc chambers with 2.02/1.60 valves with Comp Stainless 1.5 ratio roller rockers. The intake manifold was a GM Performance cast-iron version of the Z28/LT1 design, with a Q Jet flange. The distributor was an MSD, with the black, points style cap. Topped off with a Q Jet from a 396 BBC and a factory 327/350hp air cleaner. The heads and intake were ported together by Extrude Hone and flow balanced. This engine combination, with PowerGlide/ Gear Venders and a 12 bolt rear with 4.10 gears went the best of 11.35 at 118mph.
HEI is no big deal. Most drivers have been upgraded. Nobody would be surprised.
Many would miss the single plane.
Awesome! That car has everything you want. What kind of transmission does he have.
700r4
Nice isn't it!
Just paint the M/T black. Lol.
Thanks for the video.
And very nice car.
Wasn’t there plans for another cam change? As the cam was very small/conservative?
Grad to see you clean up Casper
Are you going to scuff it with 2000 grit or something
Good luck with the clear coat
Yes
Dv said that's how I want my mustang to go, ol boy (rightly so) stick that chest out. I would've too that's a compliment
He still love's going fast!
I know right!
Andy
back tires "iffy"
Sleepers have AC or at least the compressor is mounted. lol
This still has R12 in the system
@@UnityMotorSportsGarage sweet, I loved seeing it. You guys mentioned how tight it drives, does it have tubular control arms/coil overs etc? I just made the change on my 72 CHevelle and it made all the difference in the world.
No Sir@@cuzz63
3400 RPM at 70 mph with overdrive? That sounds like 1:1 3rd gear, not OD 4th.
You have to remember it has 26" tall rear tires
Andy
😂😂🏁🏁🏁😎
Cool build but that fugly Qjet carb would have to go.
That Q-Jet is the Thunder !
That's the best part.. people won't know until it's too late..
Andy
Better paint over those letters on the bad tires
can it beat my WRX in the rain?
Doesn't get any better two good ol boys out and about cruising around in a American muscle car with grins from ear to ear. You can't buy this stuff only men know the feeling. Australia
Thanks for watching!
Andy
You got that right my friend. We do this around here all the time. Even my wife loves going for a cruise/rip especially in the Mountains close to home.
