@@UnityMotorSportsGarage You cannot truly say that the small block was success in NASCAR. They changed and garnished so many rules around making Chevy faster than the Thunderbird, there was no way Chevy was NOT going to lose. Beginning in the middle to late 80's Ford's were required to run taller rear spoilers, steeper spoiler angles and taller ground clearances. Those things never got taken away until the COT came about.
Those are the reasons that Mark Martin fought for a decade with Roush and never really could get the Taurus to handle. The rear spoiler raised the front end off the ground and Mark couldn't get the car to really turn on any track they went to.
Then in 2008 after the COT was introduced NASCAR garnished Chevy with a Torque engine package for the Chase, which was another turning point for Chevy, as Ford or Toyota or Dodge wasn't given an engine package until 2013.
It was stated that Gary Nelson was put in place; as the head of NASCAR inspections to make better assessments of cheating. However, all the major rule changes came after he took the helm and pounced on Ford's handling like a rock in a river.....
Edit, I gave this vid a thumbs up. I'm not the evil villain....

Yeah, it's been all downhill since then. I was a Gordon fan, never a fan of Sr., but crap like the Lucky Dog, the Chase, the COT, stage racing, overtime, and other contrived BS has really damaged the sport. Gordon should have 100 wins and 7 titles if not for their BS. It's as if they were trying to stop HIM from winning any more titles. But Gordon hurt his own cause by hiring his assassin, Jimmie Johnson. Imagine if Gordon had had Chad Knaus, not Steve Letarte, et al.

In mho what made Chevy's great was the fact that if you went from a 283 to a 400cid you didn't have to change your transmission, like with Ford if you went form a 351w to a 351c the transmission bolt pattern was different cause the Cleveland 's block to tranny bolt pattern was based on the the 385 series engine which consisted of the 460,429,400 and the 351c these engine where actually designed for racing applications not just for the street. Not everyone wants a big project that takes several months or years. I think it would be of great interest to many, especially with less common engines with little aftermarket support. I think i may try that route if i can find a clean suzuki samurai, some swap the stock 1.3 8V for a 1.6 8V or 16V, but i have seen that the 1.6 blocks often crack in a certain spot. the sbc is cheap, makes power easily.parts are EVERYWHERE and readily available.yes folks, its boring to a lot of people because so many people use them and make them work well...anyone whining about the abundance of LS swaps has no idea how many sbc swaps there are in hot rods, street rods, pro streets, race cars etc...the 10,000 to 1 ratio is probably low.they made millions upon millions of small block chevs in multiple variants.ive got 3 spares in my garage at any given time.they are abundant, they make power and dont cost a fortune.

    Aftermarket support and cost.
SBC parts were always the cheapest.
Ford parts were about 25% more.
Mopar was twice the price of SBC.
Though I gotta admit the Trans Am 302 was a beast. Even ended up powering the Pontiac cars for a couple of years when the Pontiac 303 wasn't ready.
But I want to build a Pontiac Trans Am tribute car with the 303. Take your typical 400 block, mill about 1.25" off the deck height, and put a 2.84" stroke crank in the bottom. Now put the Ram Air V tunnel port heads on it and rev to 8000 rpm.

Cj, that is a great question.. you have to remember that the SBC had over a 40 year run.. They stuck with the basic architecture even in the LT1/LT4 and Vortec configurations.. but I myself being involved in Manufacturing.. the new generations of engineers want to leave there mark on the world so to speak.. plus along with Corporate guidelines on reduced emissions, fuel economy, specific power output and NVH (noise vibration harshness) that is why in my opinion they change... Don't forget to remain competitive against other automakers... It's a domino effect
