Fresnel. Lets way more light through which is always a good thing. You don't notice the blurry peripheral vision when you are immersed in a game anyways...
@@DiukPL Thats just my opinion bruther, as someone who has tried both. Do you know how pancake lenses work? They are completely different from Fresnel, and there is a reason not all headsets use them (even a lot of high-end headsets are still using Fresnel , i.e. VIVE Focus , or Aspheric like Pimax headsets - both of which transmit WAY more light than pancake lenses do). If pancake were the perfect lens technology, everyone would be using them - but they're not. The "folded optics" of pancake lenses comes with consequences. Fresnel lenses direct light a lot more efficiency than pancake do, so less light is lost, and I think that leads to less washed-out colors on Fresnel as well. To compensate for the poor light transmission of pancake, they just crank up the brightness to get to 100 nits, which hurts battery life and probably color accuracy.
This is all pretty much what I expected. Quest 2 looks great, Q3 looks best. Q3S is somewhere in-between. Or more like the Q3S is a noticeable upgrade in clarity from Q2.
As usual, the best comparison of visual quality. The labels for the headsets could perhaps be a little further up so that they are not overlapped by the controls when the video is paused.
It seems that the change in sub pixels from 2 to 3s does alter the image slightly. Giving the image a slightly sharper look and the display seems to be brighter than quest 2.
3:43 right hand (Q3S): this is actually the quality we would need for every single shot. If the camera is out of focus or misaligned in some direction like in a lot of other shots, there is no fair comparison.
I'm curious to see what the difference between Quest 3 and Quest 3S would be if you set PCVR to the same resolution. I believe that the majority of people won't be able to play AAA PCVR games at max resolution anyway. For me, I would trade resolution for a higher refresh rate any day. I think it would be a very interesting test to see the actual difference between the lenses, so we don't get fooled by the higher resolution. Anyway, thank you for this video, you're helping a lot of people with valuable information.
Pancake lenses are a huge upgrade. I bought the Quest 3 just for the lenses. The biggest difference is that you can actually look around in the headset with your eyes and the image remains sharp all around the lenses. This is more natural, like how you look around in real life. However, with fresnel lenses, you can only look through the middle of the lenses for clarity because the periphery of fresnel lenses is blurry. So, you have to physically turn your head more to look around to keep things sharp. If the headset moves slightly on your head, or your IPD does not match the 3 presets, you get a more blurry image. It is worse on PSVR2 fresnel lenses as the sweet spot is even smaller.
@BlackMarketHoney, you’re 100% right. Yesterday, I got the Quest 3S mainly because I wouldn’t be able to play HLA at 90Hz in native resolution using the Quest 3, and I thought the higher resolution would be unnecessary. However, like you said, the sweet spot on the 3S is extremely small, and everything around it appears blurry. In videos, it doesn’t seem that bad, but in person, it's much more noticeable. So, my advice for anyone thinking like I did: think twice. If you can save up for the pancake lenses, even if you don’t use the full resolution, you’ll have a much better experience. I’m definitely going to save money to switch to the Quest 3 and sell my Quest 3S next year.
@@limecupcakes Thank you for the suggestion! Quest 2 solution is good
I used steamlink because I have 0€ left from paying 300€for the quest 3s
I HATE that virtual desktop is not free, like, it should be a native function of the headset and built into it for free, not expensive extra software after already paying way too much...
It literally is built into the headset tho, there is meta version too. Virtual desktop is just best by far
So yesterday Oct 21, 2024, I bought the Quest 3 at GameStop at noon but I didn't open yet it bc I need the cover case to stay new longer yes I will order from Amazon also camera protector and the lens protector to my parents don't know I ordered the VR headset the Quest 3s looks pretty better than Quest 3 however yeah.
keep the Q3 trust me, it's miles better than the 3S
So concluding? for games 3 vs 3s is no big difference? but in Batman if I move, on the side i see dark shadows, not so nice.
for streaming netflix etc. -> the 3 will be sharper I guess?
the weight is almost the same...:/ i hoped the 3 is lighter because its thinner? thanks for info
You saved me from buying a Quest 3S...It looked to have the worst visual quality.
not fair for some samples
Quest 3s has worse colours and things in motion look more blurred than quest 2
Have you tested both headsets? I really want to know, I'm curious hahaha.
@@Raphajobinn68682 and 3s come with one of two possible panels (same resolution of course). One of them is better, the other is slightly worse. It’s up to chance for which one yours will come with
Nonsense. I think the 3s looks way better then the 2. Did you watch the video?
@@otonielb I understand then, in short, it's luck.
@@robmichael8136 Dude, you're just watching a video. I'm watching it on a cell phone with OLED and that doesn't mean it's going to have the same quality as OLED. To know the colors, you'll just have to test them yourself.
Black levels on the Quest 3 are a disaster. Is this video representitive of the contrast and black levels of the Quest 3?
No it's not, the camera will auto adjust the contrast so you can't compare black levels with these videos, or brightness. Only resolution and sharpness.
just use HVEC 10bit on the quest 2
I Think Quest 3s Is Better
But I can get a quest 2 for less than half the price :P
why do the blacks look so much worse on the quest 3?
Q3s lens look worse than Q2 and its the same dam lens and according to meta its the screen from the Q3. what a crock
It’s crazy how bro just yapped for 3 minutes straight
Yeah quest 2s not bad at all. But meta lie us again. 😅
Doesn’t matter either way imho cos the resolution is now too low for 2024 for any of these options unless you’re ok with Xbox avatar graphics
TLDR: buy Quest 3
No one talks annoying quest 3 lens glares while watching movie

😺✌🏻
The Quest 3S feels like a trap for new people. Who else would buy a fresnel headset in 2024.
Literally 90% of headsets are Fresnel
@@Resident-jq7fk Yes, because they are the cheapest to produce, that is the only reason for their large presence. Pancake lenses have an image level up.
@@michalpetrilak3976 I know my point is just that buying a headset with fresnel lenses is definitely not a bad choice in 2024 as it's still widely used
ppl that dont have much money to spend on expensive stuff
@@Resident-jq7fk The last new headset with fresnel is psvr2. Q3S and HTC are just recycled older designs.
3S is cheaper than 3 but you're saving on the worst place on VR headset - visuals. 3 is much more usable even outside gaming.
