They need to sell this in the States. Wood fiber insulation has a higher R factor than other insulation material.

Wouldn’t you get interstitial condensation in the cavity behind the woodfibre boards ? Or is this just a mock up showing installation. ?

Hi Peter. Yes, sorry, this is just a mock-up.

What is the maximum distance from an edge that you would fix the boards? How many fixings do you need per board?

Hi Amy. I'd say around 150mm from the edge would be the maximum and usually you need 8-9 fixings per m2 (or per board in this case) for wood fibre boards. If you have 600mm centres on your studs it will be 9 fixings or if 400mm centres it will be 8 fixings. Hope that helps.

Hi Chris, thanks for your quick reply. If you have studs at 600mm centres how can you maintain fixings at max 150mm? The join between 2 boards would sit somewhere between the studs (eg join at 300mm from centres of studs for both boards or 200/400mm etc.)

Sorry, I don't think I have been very clear. I am concerned about where boards join and want to check whether it is OK for the corners of boards to not be fixed. I'm planning on using wood fibre board that is tongue and groove but only 40mm thick and my studs are approx 550mm centres.

@@HandmadeNest hi Amy. Generally it is best to aim for 50 mm also from the edges of the boards and then one roughly in the centre. So for example if you have an 800 mm wide board you would have a fixing 50 mm from the bottom edge, 50 mm from the top edge and one in the middle of the board at 400 mm from either edge. In terms of where the boards join, you would simply start attaching the boards to the timber frame and not worry about where the joins are. The tongue and groove profile takes care of the connection to the adjacent board. Just make sure that from one course to the next you stagger the vertical joints by at least 300 mm. Hope that helps.
