I've only played the European counterpart of this game, and I can say it's relatively accessible and has different settings according to the control method you're using. For instance, I use an Xbox 360 controller for it.
Both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 have free demos, so you can always try the one of them out before choosing whether to spend money on it or not.
