I worked at a Chevrolet dealership for 37 years, and they had this exact problem since around 1985 or so. We tried everything mentioned in your video and more, and adding spacers was always the fix. Now I have a 2023 High Country 1500, and have the same problem. I think I’ll try to get an old tire from a tire shop and make a set of spacers like you used. Much better than the “donuts” GM sent out for us to use.
Pretty amazing they have the same problem going on after 25-30 years. Actually, pretty sad. I really enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.

I've got a 2020 Sierra 1500...both sides were clunking pretty bad with any type of "flex". After reading numerous opinions on the "Spring Things" kit, I replicated the design and made my own set of .25" rubber spacers and installed them in the same location. The clunking is COMPLETELY gone... It's a shame that GM engineers are too stupid to resolve this known issue, especially since the solution is SO SIMPLE.
Thank you for sharing your experience with this kit. Hopefully many people see this. It seems to be pretty common in the 1500's and even the colorado's and canyons.
I'm just mindblown that GM's TSB completely ignores the isolators and simply calls for lubrication and torqueing of the bolts associated with the leaf pack, then the problem returns a day or 2 later 🤣... THIS fix takes 10-15 minutes and WORKS!

This isn't due to GM engineers. Leaf springs aren't designed and made by GM. GM puts a bid and companies bids on who will make and deliver them. GM simply should not award its supplier with another contract.

Very informative video! I like GM half tons, mostly cuz of the 6.2 but not a fan of the overall build quality. It has seemed to get better, but that leaf spring clunk would be frustrating on any pickup, let alone a brand new one.

The over-hood 'visibility issue' is easily countered by simply hitting the "Camera" button on the infotainment system when you're getting into a parking space. I was doing that with my older Silverado for some time to make sure I was parking true. Obviously I use it more when I'm parking someplace where there are vehicles on either side of the spot I'm going into (not as frequent where I am).

That's under warranty. There is a TSB for it. My truck had the same issue. Took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it and ordered the left rear leaf spring pack. Took it back in a week later when the part arrived and picked it up at the end of the day when it was replaced. Never did the noise again. It's a defective part, and i recommend getting it fixed the right way while under warranty. If its put of warranty and wants to get rid of the noise the cheap way, then sure, do this. I will make a video on this with TSB number.

Very nice! I just checked over a 24 that had this noise. His sounded more like it was up front.
I was leaning towards the dual bump stops binding in the cups of lower A-arms or the edge of the inner fender liner, that wasn't fitting properly.
I'll have to pass this information on to him.
As far as visibility over the hood, I have to give 19+ Ram to be the worst, GM second and Super Duty still being the best.

I have 2020 and mine just started doing it at 37k miles. I also had an 2018 and that did it at 5k miles. My 18 had both lead springs replaced but had the bulletin done 2xs before replacement. Sound went away for awhile. But came back at 34k before lease return. Buddy of mine works at Chevy as a transmission tech. He said new springs will eventually do it also.

On my last truck, the plastic puck fell out of the lower overload leaf and the lower two spring leaves (or leafs) would clunk. I had no idea what the problem was but like with your truk, the noise drove me NUTS.
The dealer told me what the problem was and installed a giant rubber band looking thing to take the place of the missing plastic puck. Your truck is different in that the top two leaves (or leafs) are slapping each other.

Use your warranty. That’s what it’s for. I had the same problem with
my brand new 2024 and took it in yesterday. They said they had a bulletin from GM about the issue so they had a fix for it. When I left, there was no more clunking sound. Basically, I think they sprayed some sort of plastic in the leaf springs to reduce the vibration/noise. Hopefully this fix will be permanent.

I would really like to know what is the official GM fix to this issue - if any??? Given that there are aftermarket solutions to this issue means that thousands are facing this problem and GM must have ran into this issue during their testing. How can they test their trucks and hear this and think this is OK? Unfortunately as long as customers remedy these issues themselves vs. letting GM bear the cost then they are just training GM to ignore more of these types of issues….. Your just training your dog to piss on your shoes!

And everyone wonders why GM ranks low in consumer reports OWNER satisfaction rating….well below average by owners themselves. Sure, most makers have issues here and there but most address them. What is GM doing about this - nothing. What is GM doing about collapsing lifters and pushrods on their 5.3L and 6.2L engines - nothing. Im not a GM basher, I have one on order but might be my first GM vehicle in over 32 years…. And maybe my last.

I have a 2022 Silverado 4x4 equipped with the LM2. A little over a month of owning the truck, I had the same noise issue but decided to wait on taking it to dealer. I ended up getting a check engine light so I took it in and also mentioned this knocking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. At first the Tech said he couldn’t hear anything. I made my way down to the dealer and had the service advisor hop into the truck with me and he heard it instantly as I pulled out of their sloped driveway. I just picked up the truck today and they submitted the issue to GM. GM claimed that the noise is normal. GM also said that it’s my rear axel moving around to allow extra play when it’s under load. I don’t see how this knocking noise is normal and still believe it’s my leaf springs. I’m going to try these rubber inserts and see if the noise goes away also.
