- Dead Space 2 released on the 25th January 2011 to overwhelming critical response becoming the highest rated survival horror title of the 7th generation of consoles.
Its been 12 years since I last played it and over the course of this review I'm going to detail how Dead Space 2 blows all of my expectations out of the water, how it raises the bar that came before and cements itself as one of the best video game sequels of all time.

Probably the single best game EVER created. It did the whole one cut camera 10 years before games would advertise that as a feature. Run it on a PC and parts of it look like it came out this year. Gameplay, characters, art design, I could go on and on
Its up there in the conversation for sure, a proper masterpiece 👌
The only part that aged badly are the character models. Desr god some of them are awful
For years I never thought they’d remaster or rejuvenate the series. Now I have hope that they’ll give us more content to this amazing franchise.

Dead Space 2 is one of the BEST sequels to any survival horror genre game out there. You're correct in regards to the PS3 version being better. I bought the game originally for the Xbox 360 because, at the time, that was the system I owned. I later purchased the PS3 console in order to play the great games not available on the Xbox because of them being exclusive to the Playstation, with games such as Uncharted, Resistance: Fall of Man, Last of Us and God of War. However, the PS3 version had the remarkable rail shooter for Dead Space available with the game for free when you purchased the PS3 version which in it's own right was the better version. I just finished this last night. I hadn’t played it since release and it’s held up incredibly well. One of the best sequels ever in gaming.
Its remarkable game design, if it had better graphics and a HD lick of paint it could come out now and still be as impactful. Truley incredible game 👌
I can’t wait for the DS2 remake. It’ll literally be one of the best games ever made. A remake would expand the games world and lore, having a semi open world environment like the Dead Space remake would be insane. I’ve always wanted to aimlessly explore Titan Station. Going from walking through the hospital and psych ward, to exploring the residential towers during the outbreak. Shit would be amazing

It's probably because I've played the game dozens of times but I can finish it in less than 2 hours. And I love it. It never feels like it's wasting my time and it practically begs to be replayed.

This is a game that has a huge replay value. I remember on my first playthrough of Dead Space 2 on PS3 was that my weapons barley did any damage, because I focused more on upgrading the stasis & RIG, but it gave my trouble in the last few chapters, on my second playtrough, I try to focus on upgrading my weapons damage, so I don't have a harder time killing enemies, especially the more advanced variants. The game actually helps the player to figure out what is the best course of action & what you should or shouldn't upgrade if you ever decide to play the game on the hardest difficulty. And no matter how many times I play the game, I still have a good time with it, even to this day.
This game is so amazing. All the cool looking suits and fun weapons. We can only hope this one gets remastered or remade too

Let's go, been waiting on this one ever since I binged your other dead space videos. It's a shame that they don't have severed on pc because this was my favorite dead space, maybe they'll give us a remake on this one too.

Nah, they dumped all the dlc suits on the PC version and there's no achievements either, iirc steam didn't allow dlc to be bought in game and had to be listed in the steam store and ea didn't want to split that margin with them and since severed is a continuation of extracts story they didn't see the point in putting a dlc that ties in to a console only game.
2:21 "That's the USG Ishimura miss daniels" (Just a Minor gripe, the USS, would refer to a US Military Ship, the USG ishimura, along with all C.E.C Ships are prefixed with USG. Eg The USG Kellion, Obanon and Ishimura. While the USM refers to EG Mill ships, like the USM Valour. Prefixes are Important in any maritime force.

I think remake and 2 are equally well designed. Remake was using 2 for inspiration in its changes after all.
I'm so confused 🤔...,...... Hmmm..... WTF?!? If you played the remake recently you would actually see that they changed a lot of the gameplay to be like dead space 2 , so your statement makes no sense😮

Great video! Interestingly enough, despite the increase in action and arsenal, I think I was more terrified through my DS2 playthrough than the original. Those stalkers in the church scarred me for life

The opening itself is heart pumping enough and from there it doesn't stop. It continually ups itself, from the slow methodical clearing of the apartment blocks through to the cresendo at the church. What a game!

I just did a whole video reviewing ALL the Dead Space movies, books, comics, etc. It’s disappointing one of the best parts of EAs marketing push, the iOS game, is almost lost unless you’re willing to trudge through emulation and old hardware.
Its such a shame, for a company that's so focussed on recurring monetization it doesn't make much sense

It's 60 fps on xbox series x and s via backwards compatibility. I usually game my ps5 and pc but I plugged in the series x just for this game 😂
If I had an xbox that would have been the version I'd have gone for too, the backwards compat with 360 is such a nice feature 👌
I thoroughly enjoyed this review and the game. It’s really good fun to finish the game and play through again with an upgraded suit and fully noded up. The sound effects for the enemies is the best I’ve heard in a game, especially the stalkers scream and those things that carry a sack of acid. DS2 is in my top 10 games of all time. 👍
I don't know where it would rank in my top of all time but it would be super high! The sound design as you stated is next level with 2, so so good

There's this gimmick in Warframe, where the windows in the spaceships are destroyable. Destroying a single window will not only defeats most of the enemies in the room, but it steadily depletes the health of your character. The only way to close it down, is to hack a console nearby.
Note that this windows can easily get misfired on some scenarios.
Tried to play it on a new tv with xbox x its just too low a resolution. The have included 60fps and auto hdr and thats great but 720p is just too low. Now that motive has all assets in 4k I would love a remake of 2. The game is brilliant but I would love a more open level approach as in the remake.. the straight linear approach feels little too simple nowadays. Exploring Titan Station like the Ishimura in the remake would be a dream come through

Fucking fantastic review dude, I love Dead Space 2. Thebgame holds upnso well and you can tell the game had a huge budget and tons of love and passion put in to marry the horror and action sides of the spectrum.

I just beat the game for the first time since 2011 or so, and I don't rate it as highly as I used to back then. It's still a great game, but shows it's age in some ways. But definitely the best game in the Dead Space series so far. I got jump scared quite a lot in DS2, and I love the faster pace compared to DS1 although the game can be beaten very quickly because of this.
Wonder how they'll do the remake? Think it's going to be a tough one to redo
34:10 I'm always confused by someone asking for a console remaster when there's a working PC version. DS2 runs at 1080p60 on a toaster, you probably had a harder time setting up capture than you would be downloading Origin and buying the game there.

Maaaan they got EA has their work cut out for them if they try to remake 2. I think there's alot less room to improve on compared to the original game.

I absolutely love 💞 dead space 2! I obviously loved the first game without a doubt, but to me part 2 outdoes the first game in every aspect. I think the design of "the sprawl" is just brilliant. Theres alot more environments compared to the first as well. One of the high points is the section where we go into the church of unitoligy that is just beautiful, moody and ill never forget my first playthrough and listening and hearing all the necromorphs stalking us while we are exploring and it freaked me out lol. Im not joking when i say i had to stop playing on my first playthrough because of my anxiety and paranoia was getting the best of me lol. This game had some damn amazing setpiece moments that wouldn't look out of place in a Michael bay movie. To me there definitely was some bigger action moments compared to the first game but it still had plenty of dread and scares. Some of the areas were very distressing as well, i remember walking through a huge daycare center with all the kiddie stuff there on top of all the blood and bodies and it made me think to myself.....where are all the children and when i thought about it more i had to stop because its messd up. The graphics were definitely improving from the first game with plenty of awe inspiring areas.....one of the best in any game i ever played would be the part where we are in space literally dodging huge ass detailed sections of the station, then we finally get a shot where we finally see how truly massive the station is....just unbelievable. I am buying the remake of the first that looks damn amazing! I truly hope EA motive is going to remake part 2....ill be ao happy lol. Amd yeah part 3. Nope sorry lol
The Dead Space 2 multplayer is still active. Which is remarkable, as the MP was a late addition in development.

I think a remaster is more ideal as 2 doesn't have as much that can be improved without easily being bad changes instead of good ones. I think remake was lucky to have 2 to look for inspiration. 2 is the inspiration so why try to change it when it works so well? I think 3 should get remade instead personally
I am so late to the party l, am going to start this game for the first time, when I bought it when it came out now I’m in 2024 playing it 🤦🏻♂️ I’m going to play it in my PS3 first then PC.
Great video! This got me excited to start the game actually and I agree with most of your views but a few.
I recently started Dead Space 2 and it is a very impressive game. I would say that it captures the blend of horror and action as good as any game. I prefer the more tense horror of the original and traditional survival horror experiences but overall it is impressive.
What I don't like is it's difficulty balancing on higher difficulties. I've beaten Dead Space one on the hardest difficulties and every death felt fair. DS2 has a lot of cheap deaths from trial and error that annoy me and feel like they occur because it's an action heavy game. I would not recommend a first playthrough on Zealot. It's not incredibly hard but it is frustrating and certain section later in the game from chapter 7 on you will almost certainly die. Sometimes from environmental traps and other times being swarmed with threats. I do think DS 2 is enjoyable and a wild ride but it I didn't enjoy it on harder difficulties as much as part one. I think I'll do a new game plus on survivalist and I imagine I'll have more fun
For this playthrough I did it on hard and found that a great challenge but not too difficult that it becomes frustrating, back in the day I did zealot but I can't remember it all that well 😅

Probably the best game ever made, beating it on hard-core with only 2 saves was one of the most difficult and rewarding achievements of my life LOL

@SSJdavey you have to memorize the entire game lol.. the ending few chapters have so many instant death things like when you're flying or trying to get the needle in your eye first try after playing 4 hours to get to it 😬🤣

Agree but they could include all the improvements in the og remake for DS2. Graphics, more open level design ( that would be incredible) , enhanced lore ( ignition...etc) . It could elevate DS2 to new heights.

@@SSJdavey just to clarify - i believe that the first one is better in living up to its genre. I like Dead Space 2, but its far-far away from the butt clenching experience that was Dead Space 1.

Nah mate. Dead Space is phenomenal, but 2 is even more so. It had plenty of “butt clenching” & iconic moments / levels. From the opening hospital level, to the church, to the pre-school, to the return to the Ishimura, that LASIK scene. Don’t get it twisted now.
