    Hey all! Just wanted to say thank you for the support and sorry about the audio levels in this video. At times it doesn’t sound the best, and I attribute this to being in the middle of reworking my setup, working with a mic stand for the first time and being far too close to it. A couple of you have pointed it out, so I just wanted to let y’all know I am aware of the issue and it will be fixed for next time! Thank you! :D

      I still can't get over how badly Nicole comes down with a series case of "Willem Dafoe" face while Isaac is watching the whole video, at the end.
      Also nice how snapping his delusion also breaks Cross of her's, as well, they didn't need to show Cross the video of Mercer blowing Jacob's brains out while he was in stasis, just Isaac watching Nicole....
      You close one loophole, you open another!

    Kendra in the remake is much more personable towards Isaac, trying to manipulate him against Hammond.
    She really good out of her way to be on Isaac's good side as opposed to the original where she's overly hostile to everyone. This time she's much more in line with her mission, using Isaac to do the heavy lifting.

    • @EanFox7
      @EanFox7  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe I just never paid it much mind, as I knew she was a bad guy from the get go from playing the OG. I’ve always looked at her sowing mistrust for no reason as a good reason not to trust her

    • @drigonfirefox
      @drigonfirefox ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, I never played the og, cause it's hard locked to 30 fps on pc. But throughout the game I never distrusted her, she seemed like how any person would be in the situation. Then there was her chastising issac for giving the ship to kyne but that makes sense shes scared and wants out. So when she kills kyne and flys away I felt like she did it because she wanted out. Idk her intent was a lot less clear. Like I thought she and issac were close because of the opening interaction.

    • @EanFox7
      @EanFox7  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is entirely possible that I was blinded by the fact that I never trusted her. I felt that she just had more dialogue, none that really expanded on her character other than trying to sow distrust. Maybe I can play it again and get another perspective.

      Not to mention idk about anyone else but when she dies in remake it was actually kinda sad. Cause I felt how Isaac does he's tired or everyone he cares about dying. Even after everything she does he doesn't want her to die. And when they reach for each other you feel their despair only for the last person he cared about to be ripped away from him. And at the end of the days she's being manipulative but she's also doing what she believes is the good thing to do.

    Practically perfect. It has dethroned Dead Space 2 as my favorite horror game. I have one single gripe though and that's on subsequent playthroughs. There are too many instances where the game blocks progress until a conversation has finished. You can't open doors, you can't save, you can use the store until the conversation has ended. And that happens often. I just wanna go but the game is like "Not so fast, fuck face." I'm not gonna pretend this is a remake specific problem. Literally every Dead Space has this problem. Reminds me of the problem I have with Doom 2016. The game is perfect until it locks you in a room and a character talks at you for 5 minutes. Maybe it's a me thing but a game that makes me wait is agonizing.

    • @EanFox7
      @EanFox7  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ahh. That is something I didn't notice, as I only played about 1 and a half playthroughs for this video. I could see how that would bother someone who may be trying to go for speed though, especially if you're on a second playthrough.
      I love Dead Space, but I typically will only play it once, take a break, then play it again a few months later.

    Great video, you definitely point out how the remake improves on the original by leaps and bounds but I have to disagree on just one of your weapon observations. I admit that in the original, the flamethrower was basically useless. However, in the remake, it’s one of my primary weapons and here’s why: when the flamethrower is fully upgraded, the alt-fire flame wall is a game changer because it has the ability to trap multiple enemies in it’s flames, which softens their limbs for easier dismemberment. I highly recommend it against the pregnant Necromorphs and the swarmers they produce as well as the other creepy crawlers that will drain Isaac’s health.

    Hey, great review! Just wanted to answer your question about what are the real Necromorphs. This was explained in Dead Space 3, which explains why most don't really remember or know this. The Necromorphs originate from the Brethren Moons, moon-sized Necromorphs that created the Black Markers. They use the Markers to send out the mind-altering signal and the Necromorph infection signal that re-animated dead bodies.

    • @EanFox7

    You say we don't know what necromorphs look like but they don't look like anything. Necromorphs are not a species. The Marker puts out a powerful electro magnetic signal that manipulates dead tissue and cells. Necromorphs look like anything the Marker wants them to look like. It's not like it's a parasite or virus. It's something else entirely. Now if you're asking what do the creators of the Markers look like, that a mystery I hope never gets solved. Something created the Markers for an unknown purpose. Whatever it is it's unfathomably ancient. We're talking billions of years ancient at least. All we know is they want to "make us whole". My theory is the makers want all life in the universe to be assimilated into a single hive mind network of brethren moons. And when everything is a brethren moon it'll initiate a final evolution into a singular entity. Making us whole.

    • @EanFox7
      @EanFox7  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good point, though I still do think my point does stand due to the fact that we don't know what created the marker. Surely whatever created the Marker would create it so that it spreads more of "it" to whatever is within range of it? I do agree with you though, what created the marker should never be revealed. A little bit of mystery is always fun!

    This is a rather top notch review as well as a nice 42 minutes, noticed half way in this is a smaller channel, didnt realized beforehand, good quality overall.
    I do however have a twist on the opinion of us "not knowing" what the necromorphs really look like, i know the reality is that they can have a variety of appearances and theres nothing strictly statign what they Must look like, but if i had to say we know what they look like in any case i'd say its either the Moons or the hive mind to some extent, still doesnt really hit the nail on the head but i'd say its a good direction to go in given all the forms do share one immediately recognizable theme despite the variety.
    And i'd argue its possible to actually lose some of, if not all the fear factor sometimes once you get used to the formula of how the bodies are mutated, but i guess that can be somewhat subjective for many people, but the effect of us not really knowing what they look like i'd say is not necessarily as true as it would probably be cool to believe it is, particularly because of the shared themes that i can recognize throughout all their forms and additionally knowing what it is they are intended to become.

    something to add to your analysis is that I would say it was the market that got into the franchise. This didn't happen just to deadspace but to many other games. Resident Evil 5 and 6 almost kill the franchise too. Everyone was jumping into the heavy Action leaning design. Now, It's also interesting to see what the original devs of Visceral did in Callisto Protocol without the "intervention" of EA. I think the devs at that time thought going more into action territory was the right thing and well, failed. Also, Dead Space 2 although incredible beloved by fans wasn't a critical business success. The production costs were insane and that's more a studio thing than a publisher thing. Not saying EA doesn't screw it up, but we tend to blame them when a game flops and leave them out when the game succeed, and basically their involvement in both cases, is the kinda the same.

    • @EanFox7
      @EanFox7  ปีที่แล้ว

      I see what you’re saying, but I think DS3 was a case of corporate meddling. It’s been said that the developers originally had an entirely different vision for the title, but EA put their hands in the pot. As for Callisto, they just wanted to make a Dead Space game. It was far too similar but far too inferior to dead space to ever be successful. Still is a shame what happened with that title though. And yeah I do agree. I mean I’m okay with praising EA when they do something right, but it just always seems as though they do things wrong most of the time. Also about the DS2 thing, I think that’d be why EA would dip their hands in. Because DS2 didn’t sell as much as they wanted. I appreciate you for watching and sharing your thoughts! :D

    Also they removed an enemy (the acid puker) and replaced it with a different flavor of "usual Necromorph" that can blend into a group and hock loogies at you from a distance before you even know what's going on. Not that the original didn't do that whole "blending into the chaos, and next thing you know you're being attacked from an angle you weren't watching," thing. The cast of attackers feels less diverse
    Avoiding spoilers, I also feel like the ending goes around it's elbow to wipe it's butt; Closing plot holes that weren't really that big of a deal in the first place

    I have played the game a few times now because its that good but I dont believe Kendra is the same as in the original.
    Both Kendra and Issac were hired to work on the shimura for the repair mission so Kendra knowing this only shares trust with Issac whilst not trusting Hammond seeing as he works for the Company (CeC) which is the one going against Earth govs ban over the planet.
    She was made this time to be more trusting in Issac and more hostile towards hammond. Even In her final moments Issac still tried to help Kendra and she beliving in Issac as a good person reached out for his help.
    It is hard to see her in different light especially cause we know what happened in the original. But if your willing to do the new game plus and think of what I said You will see this. At no point was she friendly to any but Isaac because he is thr only one she could trust.

    Hi! I have the same microphone you have, which is a blue yeti. I am quite used to it, I’ve recorded a ton of stuff with it (I have nothing on my channel so don’t check) which is why I know that it’s not supposed to sound like that.
    I think you should turn the gain down. Because it is completely destroying the audio quality. Because the gain is too high, the sound of your voice is too much for the microphone to properly handle, and it becomes distorted. Basically, when you record your voice, I am assuming you will see a spectrum on your screen. You’re probably using audacity or something like that, this spectrum, ideally, it should not reach the top or the bottom at all times. It should actually never do it. Here, it seems like it’s reaching it all the time, and it sounds really harsh because of it.
    If you feel like it’s too quiet if you turn it down, you can still up the sound post recording, but recording it like this, makes your voice sound harsh and overly loud. I don’t have the technical terms but.. basically you should consider turning the gain down. :)
    I think you will get better results with your voice doing it this way. Just a tip, do whatever you want with it. Hope this helps! :D

      @@EanFox7 try it, it makes a bigger difference than you might think, at least as far as the pure thrill of combat encounters and game mechanics is concerned at least, but that’s over half of the overall experience/ challenge.
      In my opinion Dead Space One and Two were awesome games, except some of the combat encounters seemed to rely less on player skill and combat, and more on you doing exactly what the game wanted you to do, too many deaths due to game cheats, ie, monsters appearing out of thin air with no options not to die except for repetitively replaying the mission until you could figure the exact position where the game thought you should be in; ( like the infamous space elevator ride in Dead Space 2 ) well that’s just not acceptable, not nowadays, it may have been acceptable once upon a time last generation but not nowadays.
      Dead Space 3 also had a number of graphical improvements and technical innovations in both gameplay mechanics, and world design, but I will admit that there were some aspects of the narrative and of the horror aspect of the first two games that were watered down in Dead Space 3 in favor of focusing on improvements in combat, overall gameplay mechanics, and world design; including but not limited to, smoothness of gameplay, and player agency, so I guess It was a trade off. Where I think Dead Space 3 really did drop the ball was in their inability to keep combat encounters challenging throughout the game, they totally miscalculated as far as the difficulty curb and made all weapons overpowered towards the latter part of the game, leaving the player with uninspiring gameplay and combat in the last quarter of the game, that’s what actually killed Dead Space 3 in my opinion, in spite of its other apparent shortcomings that was the nail in the coffin, and it definitely watered down the feeling of being afraid as well.
      Coming from someone who also enjoyed Mass Effect Andromeda more-so than Mass Effect One, I must confess that I am one of those new gen type players that actually values game combat mechanics, and player agency, as much or more so than a game’s narrative and storytelling. If I simply wanted a game with great narrative and storytelling content as opposed to great gameplay mechanics and world design, why I would rather read a great story in a book.
