  • Isildur is the son of Elendil and the forefather of Aragorn. He cut the One Ring from Sauron’s hand and shaped Middle-Earth as it was in the Third Age. Thank you all so much for watching, let me know your thoughts about Isildur in the comments below! As always, a great thanks to the online artists whose visual works made this video possible! If you are one of the artists, please let me know and I will post your name and a link to your work in this description!

Hey everyone, I am currently making a video on Elendil and noticed an error that I have made here and in other videos that I would like to amend! Elendil's father Amandil was the last lord of Andúnië in Númenor, not Elendil himself. Sorry about the mistake, thanks!

You ought to make a video about Elu Thingol, Lúthien's father and the King of Doriath. He was most notorious for being a hater of Men and gave Beren the "impossible task" of retrieving a Silmaril from the crown of Morgoth as a bride price for Lúthien's hand in marriage to spite him.

It feels like there’s a lot of interesting parallels to be drawn between Isildur and Boromir in their noble pasts and the journeys they undertook, as well as in the ring ultimately bringing each of these great men to ruin and leading them to perish upon the points of many orc arrows, finding a last moment of clarity

Hands down one of the toughest men ever! Up there with Hurin, Turin, Tuor, Elendil and King Elessar. I love this character. Isildur's story is proof of the strength of Saur-Saur and his evil will. Once you come into contact with Saur-Saur one can only resist for so long...plus Isildur cursed a whole population of men....that's power.

I always use to play Search & Destroy in Black Ops 2 and my buddy Connor would always be the last one alive while he had to defuse the thing. We would yell at him (he couldnt hear us) to defuse it. I felt like Elrond telling Isildur to throw it into the fire in those moments.

One thing I must say though is at the time they didn’t actually know that saurons soul was in the one ring or that it had the power to corrupt, regrettably it wasn’t until much later than they realised it, however from what can be gathered from the description of him feeling a loss and then relief almost instantaneously, shows that the ring had no direct power over him yet only a possessiveness and protectiveness, so in the end he was still his own man and it is only a pity that he did not survive, because who knows maybe he would’ve discovered the true nature of the ring and destroyed it or maybe succumb to it we can never know,
Isildur Has always been one of my best characters and heroes from Tolkiens work.
    Great video keep them coming!

@Rogerio Lopes How did Washington come by those slaves? Slavery had been in existence since the begining of human civilization and likely before. Turns out the practice was really popular Africa where African kings would enslave their opponents and sell them. The Arab nations become very proficient slave traders and would traffic the African slaves. Western nations looking for labor bought them from the Arabs (who had bought from the Africans). The areas didn't discriminate, they sold Arab slaves, black slaves, Christian slaves, white slaves. In fact we went to war wit the Barbary Pirates to stop their practice of turning Americans sailors into slaves. Soon it was easier for the Arabs to just deal with Africans slaves because the African nations were every good and conquering other nations and enslaving peoples. So you can't blame Washington for inheriting slaves at time when slavery had been in existence for thousands of years.
However you should praise Washington because he felt slavery was a wrong and did his part to end slavery, he helped craft the Northwest Ordinance which made slavery illegal in all the new lands to become states in the NW (this would be Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin). Then he freed all his slaves. Not bad really.

I think the Numenoreans and the Targaryens should get together and go bowling since both their native homelands of Numenor and Valyria were destroyed in similar catastrophic fashions akin to Atlantis and both survived to established kingdoms elsewhere.

Sauron's spirit didn't bring the Ring with him when he returned to Mordor in SA 3320. When Ar-Pharazôn came to make war on Sauron in SA 3261 Sauron saw him coming and laying aside the One Ring, came out of Mordor and surrendered. So when in SA 3320 the spirit of Sauron returned to Mordor he took up the ring again and this allowed him to regain physical form.

    • @AlphaZaku
      @AlphaZaku 5 ปีที่แล้ว

"Ar-Pharazôn, as is told in the 'Downfall' or Akallabêth, conquered a terrified Sauron's subjects, not Sauron. Sauron's personal 'surrender' was voluntary and cunning: he got free transport to Numenor! He naturally had the One Ring, and so very soon dominated the minds and wills of most of the Númenóreans... Though reduced to 'a spirit of hatred borne on a dark wind', I do not think one need boggle at this spirit carrying off the One Ring, upon which his power of dominating minds now largely depended." - Letter #211

In my opinion Isildur was not greedy in fact he got a bad rap, keep in mind that the story was told from an elven perspective, Elrond only lost a brother who had chosen mortality, he still had a Father, Mother all the way in Aman. Isildur lost more; Father, Brother, Sons and even wife and last child who he never saw again.
He risked everything twice for Numenor as he fought to preserve the White tree all against Sauron who destroyed his homeland of Westerness and hurt his family forever.
Thats why when he finally bested his nemesis and took his ultimate power the One Ring; it was a minor compensation to all he had lost never to regain.
Elrond could never understand because he still could go back to his father in the undying lands and still enjoy his moms cooking(so to speak) but for Isildur, all was lost except the satisfaction of getting the better of his bitter foe even as fleeting as it might have been at the time. However, because all things bend to the will of The One in the end, Isildur, Last True Son and Protector Of Numenor still had the Last Laugh and laughed last most satisfying laugh for all ages....

I really like your videos Yoystan! What would you think about doing a theory video on if Aule, smith of the Valar, were evil? It is interesting to me that both Sauron and Saruman end up serving Melkor after having studied under Aule. While in the canon timeline he was not evil himself, much of his creations were corrupted by Melkor and the optics of the story, that simple hobbit-folk who cared not for great power and wealth succeeded where kings and even wizards had failed do not reflect well on Aule. I am curious if you think things would have gone differently if he were evil. E.g. would the dwarves have mobilized against the free peoples and not met their ends to dragons and balrogs?

Hello Yoystan. You delivered yet another great video, thank you. It brought up something for me that ive always been wondering and iam curious to know what you think about it. Only 9 boats escaped the destruction of numenor, how many people could they realisticly been carrying? 50, 100 , 150 per boat? lets be generous and say that 1500 people survived. How would such a small group of people be able to found 2 kingdoms, construct multiple very complicated cities/fortresses and be able to populate them. I also have the impression that the numenorians didnt get that many children during their lifetime so replenishing the population to anything considerable would take a very long time. Taking all this into account it seems very unlikely that the numenorians could be raising any armies to fight Sauron.

Isildur kept the ring as weregild for the loss of his father and brother but I believe the ring also began to partially corrupt him and influence him - in his own writings Isildur distinctly mentions that the ring had already become precious to him - sound familiar? It was the corrupting influence of the ring that ultimately led Isildur to ignore the advice of Elrond and Cirdan who bade him to destroy it. The One ring had a sentience and will of it's own and betrayed Isildur because he was the one who ultimately separated the One from it's true owner but I also believe it wasn't corrupting Isildur as completely as it would have to many others and the One didn't like that - if only he had the strength of will to completely resist the One even briefly and had heeded Elrond and Cirdan things would have gone a totally different way throughout the Third Age. I don't believe anyone was strong enough to fully resist the One's influence except maybe for any of the Aratar and Tom Bombadil who it's speculated is either one of the Valar or Maiar or an avatar of Eru Illuvatar himself - Tolkien left Bombadil as an enigma deliberately. Gandalf and Galadriel wouldn't even touch it for fear of falling prey to it's corruption.

I think his story is almost as tragic as Beren and Turin. Men who did great deeds throughout their lives only in the end to be brought down by evil.

One minor correction to an otherwise awesome video. I am pretty sure it said in The Silmarillion that Sauron left the ring behind in Mordor when he was taken prisoner, but put it back on upon his return.

For I had risk no hurt to the Ring . It is precious to me. Though I buy it with a great pain .... (Sauron whispers Sheeeee koooooo)
The markings upon the band begin to fade . The writings which at first was clear as red flame has all but dissapeared . A secret now that only fire can tell .

I click the notification bell for your videos and then I never get notified. When I do find a video of your and go watch it, I check the notification bell icon and it has been unclicked. This has happened twice now in the last two months. IDK if it is YT doing this or not. Weirdness in a bad way for sure.

What if Elrond had dueled Isildur in Mt. Doom for the One Ring and since Narsil was broken Elrond would've left Isildur to burn in the fires of Mt. Doom while he left the volcano as he didn't have a heart to finish Isildur off nor did he feel it was his place to destroy the Ring. Therefore Isildur was found by enemy forces while he was still alive and as a Numenorian he would've made a great asset to the enemy. With foul magic he was tempered, morphed and manipulated into the Mouth of Sauron and would've led the forces in the battle of Black Gate and confrontation between the former son of Elendil and his heir Aragorn would've been more emotional than it was in the original timeline. Basically what if Star Wars and the LotR could mate with one another.

    It betrayed Isildur......to his death
The story of Isildur sums up the culmination of the people of numenor; they start off strong, wise, valiant, and on the right side of history.
Then they fall from grace in a very sad decline. His tale was bitter sweet in that he single handedly killed The enemy of the free people’s and ending his oppression but failed to complete his task by keeping the ring and prolonging the darkness to a later date
How different history would b if he felled the ring on that day 🤔

Currently reading the Lord of the rings and would love to hear your opinion on something Gandalf says to Frodo in chapter 2 of fellowship when Gandalf tells Frodo of how the ring came to Gollum he says it is a sad story and it might have happened to others even to some hobbits that he has known, like is he saying that he knows other hobbits that have become Gollum like creatures?

Hey Yoystan, what is your thoughts on making Lord of the Rings: The War of the Last Alliance movie? Like if lets say Peter Jackson made a movie that starts in Numenor in the days of Amandil and Elendil and his sons showing their struggles and difficulties as being counted among the faithfull and all their deeds canon and some invented in the sense you dont know if its really canon or not depicted. It the first movie will well show us Numenor and towards the end of the first movie, we will see them evacuating Numenor and head for Middle Earth each scene showing Isildur and Anarion landing South and Elendil in the North, and Elendil will sing: Et Earello Endorenna
utulien Sinome maruvan ar Hildinyar tenn' Anbar-metta. The song Aragorn sang when he became High King of the Reunited Realms of Gondor and Arnor.
The Second movie: The more indepth depictions of the foundings of the Northern and Southern Kingdom aswell the issues and difficulties that bringed, aswell as reuniting the former Numenorian colonies like Umbar and etc, aswell as Isildur forming an oath with the "oathbreakers not turned oathbreakers yet". Then also during that movie Sauron's return to Mordor and the conflicts escalating, and Isildur heading North towards Arnor and then onwards to Rivendel, where we see the Council of Elrond and the forming of the Last Alliance.
The War of the Last Alliance begins and the ending part will focus on the grand weapon armaments and preperation of War.
The Third Movie: The War of the Last Alliance begins it will continue and expand on it. Then the great hosts of Men and Elves makes their way South. And finally being Joined with Anarion and his forces. and the grand battles the death of Anarion. and finally the legendary duel between Gil-Galad and Sauron. (Not gonna be Lord of the Rings version where Sauron swings his mace and he's dead) but an actual proper duel that shows the stature and the power of the Ancient Numenorian Kings and the power of the High King of Elves really had and of course showing how terrifyingly bad ass Sauron was. and of course the aftermath where Isildur takes the ring and showing his last chapters in his life until his death in the Gladden Fields.
Some typos here I know. But im also just brainstorming it.
