    Some people like to call the Big E a bad dad cause he didn't cuddle his sons enough, but I reckon curing your son of super aids and then setting an evil Demon God on Fire is pretty "dad of the year" material.

    I feel like at the beginning that Emperor truly loved his sons and even humanity but now that he’s own humanity has rotted away he feels only his duty. The emperor is the physical embodiment of the imperium itself: rotting, unfeeling, corrupted, tired but still the only thing keeping the horrors of chaos away.

      I agree but I also think that the emperor did love his sons and humanity but he prevented himself from caring about his sons too much because he expected some of them to betray him just like how the laughing God replaced fulghum and the Khan the emperor was legitimately surprised that fulgrim betrayed him and that the Khan didn't I think the reason he legitimately loved Horus because he didn't think he would betray him and he truly didn't because at the end when the emperor obliterated his soul and chaos left him he was like no what have I done!

      @@church_world_domination9357 The Emperor is pretty old, wouldn't be surprised he stopped caring after millennia. Seeing people he loved die, being betrayed, etc. At the end, I think he just feared caring again for something other than Mankind. He feared a love the would doom him

      I see it as the opposite where becoming a god against his own will is a redemption arc. Space Dad thought he could achieve what he saw in his visions if he made everyone follow his rules and act in a manner to fulfill his visions like treating certain primarchs like shit instead of using his conscience. Turns out those visions were inaccurate and people wanted to worship him as a god. Now he is the will of humanity instead of the dictator of humanity

    • @Nukefandango
      @Nukefandango 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah. That's old, old fluff. New fluff makes it pretty clear that Big E was always a megalomaniac who never listened to anyone, and whatever happened to him on Moloch slowly stripped away the last vestiges of his humanity. The father of the primarchs was a tyrannical narcissist at best and a psychic abomination at worse.

    Guilliman remembers his "talk" with Emperor different time every time he tries to recall how it looked like. How he remembered it first time was him being very emotional and that this conversation was quick.
    Although Custodes that was with him remembers it - Guilliman standing and talking to himself, while being calm. This custodes also claims that it was a long "conversation" which is completely opposite of what Guilliman says.
    So perhaps Emperor told him A LOT more, like for example what to do right now, but made Guilliman think that he though of it himself, while also creating fake conversation that is hiding the truth. That would explain why he recalls it differently each time.
    As to why would Emperor do that? He might wanted to hide the plan so that chaos gods could not learn of it. Considering he can posses Guilliman's body, Emperor might simply revel parts of his plan from their conversation the moment it is crucial for Guilliman to know it.

    • @guidosartorelli3811
      @guidosartorelli3811 2 ปีที่แล้ว +47

      Maybe to hide the plan from chaos, most notably the octo-nerd, the memory of what to do and how to do stuff had to be revealed through an everchangi.g memory that gradually reveals his intentions, the custodes being uncorruptible may explain why his record states that the conversation went for a long time, a primarch though is corruptible so extra care is needed.
      It plays with the theme that big E moght view time differently now that he is more than human, maybe it's his way to fuck with tzeentch.
      Maybe the chrono strife is part of the plan, a chaotic mess in terms of timeline that might be a sort of psychic fog of war that big E uses as an advantage to manipulate events, people etc...
      Who knows ?
      Maybe he was the one to knock 13 times the bell in trayzins gallery, maybe he's the reason why fabius bile managed to create a perfect uncorrupted clone of fulgrim that just waits for the right moment to be released from stasis.

We failed Father. You failed Your sons and we in turn failed You. And now to compound our arrogance and vainglory, we have failed all of them too. Did Horus not say You sought Godhood? I do feel that the emperor’s opinion of guilliman’s resurrection isn’t entirely his opinion, but instead his instinctual and practical opinion. I do imagine the emperor actually loves his sons, despite his dislike of their flaws, but he hasn’t been his full self since he splintered his love and empathy in order to kill Horus. When he pulls himself together he does shoe his love to his children, but it’s just too difficult to do that constantly so all that’s left is a cranky grandad most of the time, unless someone can glue his soul back together

      Guilliman likely already thought that the Emperor viewed the Primarchs more as masterfully crafted tools than as His actual children. Say what you will about Bobby G, but _none_ of the Primarchs were as acutely aware of the actual state of reality as he is; that doesn't mean that the Emperor being a dick doesn't hurt Roboute emotionally, but more that he already expected it and was able to shrug-off the disappointment.
      I have to disagree with this being the most-sad of the Primarchs for this revelation to occur to, however. That would have been Sanguinius; Sanguinius would have been _devastated_ to know that the Emperor never loved him... or anyone else, for that matter, including Horus.

    I found it quite interesting how Guilliman remembers his conversation with The Emperor differently each time he thinks about it, according to Plague Wars and Godblight. The only person to have a fully objective view of what the conversation entailed was Trajann Valoris, and he described it was Guilliman having a perfectly normal amicable conversation with nobody in particular. It's as if The Emperor has been split into countless shards of himself, and Guilliman, having the big beefy Primarch brain that he does, is actually able to converse with those shards all at once, albeit in a scattered way and he can't even remember most of it.

If the Legion of the Damned function like the Emperor's version of demons and the Living Saints are like greater demons then how sick would it be for Corax to pop up still looking like a badass demon crow to save G-man next time he's in trouble? That would be an interesting discussion between the 2 bros. Emperor might have to step in psychically to stop G-man from attacking Corax which would then also become a Corax/Emperor reunion. Or for the Legion of the Damned leader looking suspiciously similar to Ferrus to show up and confirm his identity and show off his cool new flame effects to his resurrected brother.

    I don't think The Emperor only sees his sons as tools.. if that were the case, he'd have put some in the bin for being useless / more work than they're worth, such as Angron. Even though he sees that Angron will die from the nails, and not able to achieve nearly what his original purpose was, he keeps him alive. Magnus is offered a second chance to come back to the Imperium, and Horus he has a hard time killing until he is given absolutely no choice and nukes his soul. Interactions with Russ and Vulkan for instance seem genuine and warm. But the Emperors' not just a man, he seems to be an amalgam of powerful aspects and some times one of those aspects seem to be more dominant than others at particular times.. While on some levels E certainly will see his sons and basically everyone in the Imperium as resources to manage, I think he also cares for them, even the messed up useless ones who hate his guts.
    Also by the time RG is reunited with him, E has been hooked up to the throne for 10,000 years fending off chaos... Gonna be grumpy af.

So while the Emperor is in control of his own body at the moment, the conversation could be hinting that the Emperor is letting an AI that could be assisting him take over for immediate conversations, cognitive thought, etc but is still essentially a programmed copy of himself so they would in their own sense be the Emperor but two entirely different entities. It would be cool to see an undead mechanical Emperor rally Mars to a new technological era while the God Emperor tears shit up in the warp and brings reform and control to psykers, along with not needing sacrifices he would have greater trust / influence with them making them less prone to being used by Chaos.

Having the emperor be an actual loving father that wanted to take humanity forwards as his chosen children but then becoming a comatose object that is adored as a cruel god that is used to justify the aberrant state of the imperium because his most beloved son was mislead by the evil of chaos is by far a better situation than just having an uncaring and cold monarch that simply sort of got btfo, his plans got ruined and is now just a less impressive but equally as uncaring god.
    It seems now people think its darker to basically create a situation where good doesn’t exist in the first place, sort of like an “oh you thought this guy actually loved humanity and was relatable? Fuck you” to the fanbase, but that just makes the heresy less impactful.

      True. Added to this he was always a big picture kind of guy and I think sometimes that tendency would manifest in him being more distant and cold towards some of his sons. For me, a lot of this came from the descriptions of the interactions with the Emperor in 'The Master of Mankind' by ADB. I felt when reading it that the Emperor was coming across as cold and distant, referring to his sons by numbers instead of names, because he was talking to a representative of the Adeptus Mechanicus. And I've always felt the Emperor reflects what his audience expects, his psychic persona - that's certainly the feeling I got from it. But then other authors ran with this representation and it became normalised in other books. The next time I see ADB on a signing, I'm going to ask him if that was the intent...
