Excellent, excellent dance cover and production! You'll make a top pop star in North Korea, Ploopy. Love and respect for your super talent from South Korea^^
The song from 5:28 is the old, old song from the German group Dschinghis Khan, originally called Moskau (1979) It has become popular in Japan in 2005 on the Internet.
I'm relatively new to your channel. Once you said 'how about North Korean pop' and your intro began to play I was thinking 'woah this is actually good!' and then I realised it was your intro haha
because i believe they're all need to be superbly talented in all areas if they want to be selected for the band in the first place. in kpop they have varying level of skils with 'positions' like main singer, lead singer, dancer, visual. ofc the line distribution is going to be not equal, in order for the song to sound the best as they can. idk why kpop fans don't understand this.
I think its because of the low quality of recording that it sounds old. The vocals have these echo thingy that makes it sound like those old songs u hear on like old anime songs and pop songs lol
John Akerberg No wonder they tried to leave i would too how long is there regme going to last. He made everything worse. I wonder whats going happen after it ends. There probably get sick it to. I have question when did Kim Jung become leader
The fact they when they dress up like the 80s makes me feel sad and happy at the same time, sad because music isn’t like that anymore and happy because they are comfortable to sing
Hello, funnily enough someone who has listened to North Korean pop before has stumbled across your video today. I would like to add a few small things, if you don't mind... but I enjoyed watching your video and your dance cover, you may be the first to upload it to youtube, but it happens that I will admit that I have also tried (at a lower standard than yourself of course) dancing to "be envious of us" once before... I would also recommend that the Pochonbo Electronic Ensemble is also worth considering when thinking about NK-pop as a whole. Some aspects of the Chongbong band are similar to that of pop music, but on the whole, I would say that the Chongbong band is more like a jazz band, its instrumental section being composed of brass and acoustic strings. You probably thought that the Chongbong band sounded a lot like the Moranbong band because it was in fact the Moranbong Band instrumental section accompianing the Chongbong singers. In many other Chongbong band songs you can see the jazz influences. The Samjiyon Orchestra (Samjiyon Band was a pre-Moranbong ensemble where many of the Moranbong band's musicians came from) version of "Dash towards the future" that you showed in the video (I forgive your mistake in assuming it was the Moranbong band, there are some videos out on youtube which wrongly say it is the Moranbong Band) was actually perfomed in south Korea for the Pyongchang winter Olympics, and most of the singers there were part of the Chongbong Band. It seems that the musicians and singers in the DPRK can easily move inbetween musical ensembles, the Moranbong Band and the Chongbong band have swapping guitarists and singers and some have gone into the Korean People's Army State Merited Chorus. I know this will sound rather picky, but the song "General uses distance-shrinking magic", or "The General uses warp" does not refer to Kim Jong Un, as you suggested, but General Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Un is usually referred as the Marshal, and Kim Jong Il as the General. I was surprised that you did not pick up upon "Excellent Horse-like woman" as one of the interestingly named songs (however the song is more accurately translated as "Girl in the saddle of the steed"), It was sang by Hyon Song-wol, who was one of the people who was supposedly executed but somehow is actually a high ranking figure in the DPRK government who has visited south Korea, China and Vietnam on various diplomatic missions etc. I highly doubt that those claims of executions were true. Hyon Son-wol is also supposed to be the leader of the Moranbong Band and is seen in Moranbong uniform in a picture of the entire Moranbong Band, vice directors/arrangers and Marshal Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol-ju (who was also a singer, in the Unhasu Orchestra, it has been speculated that she might've even been a part of the Moranbong Band if she had not married Marshal Kim Jong Un, but that is a whole story for another day...) As for the Moranbong Band, it seems likely that the original members were chosen by Marshal Kim Jong Un, who came to a lot of their rehearsals and was quite well involved in the early days of the band (he was also said to be a big fan of British rock guitarist Eric Clapton), but it seems that over the years his involvement has become less. The lineup of the band has changed a quite a bit as well, these changes probably happened without Kim Jong Un. The original vocals were a sextet (in contrast to south Korean music groups the singers are often arranged in pitch order), but there have been as many as nine singers on stage (discluding "Song of coast artillery women" sang in the 2012.08.25 concert where nearly 20 local female soldiers came on stage and sang along, with other female soldiers looking on enviously and Marshal Kim Jong Un giving a hearty thumbs-up to the perfomers). Recently, the latest performance from the Moranbong Band was at the start of the year, in a open air concert in Kim Il Sung square in Pyongyang, where 8 singers performed (with a recorded track since it would be too cold for the musicians to play well) for only around 8 minutes at the end of the concert. The Moranbong Band also was rebranded as the Moranbong Electronic Ensemble for this concert. Something else you may notice is that most of the musical ensembles in the DPRK are named after places: Moranbong (Moran hill park in Pyongyang), Chongbong, Pochonbo, Wangjaesan, Mansudae, Samjiyon etc. Also, I wouldn't say that there wasn't much music under Kim Il Sung, although the music and film industry were further developed by Kim Jong Il, many songs were composed during the Kim Il Sung era in particular during the Korean war. Many of these songs were performed by the Moranbong band etc. Mungyong pass is a great example of this, the Moranbong band version is amazingly arranged and performed. I would suggest watching more songs from the Moranbong Band, you can find some videos on my channel and on other channels such as Moranbong Band HD, the Moranbong band does have a very varied repertoire besides the (very good) 1980s asian music-esque pop music. The whole DPRK music scene never ceases to fascinate me. I would also like to thank you for not turning this video into a complete defamation of the DPRK as many videos on the DPRK are highly propagandized against the country to unnecessary levels. I don't think that Marshal Kim Jong Un will come after you... Thank you and I hope you get on well!
What’s interesting is how the women all appear to be in their 30’s and 40’s rather than their teen and twenties like S. Korean Pop. I wonder why that is 🤔
lol. great video (and covers). i think if you wanted you could be a top star in the DPRK although the thought of what you'd have to go through to be hand picked is a bit scary.
Really cool video! It was fun getting to know about something I had no idea existed. And congrats on making the first North Korean pop dance cover, haha! :)
Amazing video. Thank you for showing the positive, fun and lighthearted side of North korea. Its slim to none but you have succeded. The woman were beautiful with great voices and well trained. The songs are catchy and if you were relaxing with kids, your parents and grandparents you could play it and everyone would dance and sing. Ploopy your time and effort in showing this is greatly appreciated. Stay great. Thank you💜💜💜💜
The imstrumentals of "with pride" are actually very good. I think you could give it to a popular Sotuh-Korean group, put different lyrics on it and voila, a new hit. Maybe change it a tiny bit though, maybe more upbeat Woh, Chongbong band is actually very good. Their dancing is actually great!
Watching this made me feel like I’m time traveling to 70’s.. Didn’t know music existed in NK until today.. I couldn’t imagine living in this world without music! Music is LIFE!!!! You know..😊
I'm pretty sure the members of NK bands were hand picked by the president himself (at least I heard one girl group was but idk what that gg was called. Idk if they're still being hand picked by him or not though)
I'd recommend watching the documentary 'The Red Chapel'. It's odd but (perhaps partly accidentally) a fairly complex look at North Korea - 1 filmmaker and 2 comedians(under the guise of being musical performers) 1 of them with cerebral palsy(a pretty major aspect, considering the conspicious 'absence' of disabled people in NK). It seems pretty clear how much pressure the locals are under, but they also seemed genuinely kind to the visitors, despite their situation. This in itself leads to an argument between the director and the man with cerebral palsy.
Really like the fact that @Ploopy678 is so respectful in the video like she did not criticise nor judge the NK artists but maintain a neutral stance. 👏 P.s. Just curious, @ploopy678 but what is ur nationality? I am SINGAPOREAN 🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬
Wow! The first group dance very well and that choreography though is fiercer compared to what is KPOP. The fact that it is too old already! Good! Hope this country change much!
the song you did the cover to is actually really catchy and nice! hahaha but i agree with you, they all sound very 80s pop. not just cantopop, but western pop as well haha. those beats and synth sounds tho
Idk why it’s surprising to people tbh... it was very obvious to me that North Korean bands etc would look like that bc they’re definitely not as advanced

Excellent, excellent dance cover and production! You'll make a top pop star in North Korea, Ploopy. Love and respect for your super talent from South Korea^^
This sounds like exactly the music my late grandfather used to hear whenever he opens the radio

The song from 5:28 is the old, old song from the German group Dschinghis Khan, originally called Moskau (1979)
It has become popular in Japan in 2005 on the Internet.
It was actually Germany's entry into Eurovision that year too
@@coolguybrian No, the Eurovision entry is called Dschinghis Khan, just like the name of the band. iconic af.
I'm pretty sure berryz koubou were the ones who made it popular in Japan in 2008 with their cover 🤔
@@gwisin7986 It is🤣
I'm relatively new to your channel. Once you said 'how about North Korean pop' and your intro began to play I was thinking 'woah this is actually good!' and then I realised it was your intro haha
😂😂😂😂
Her intro is the instrumental for Demi lovato sorry lmao
I feel like if any of the girls messed up they would suffer and get executed or something... O.O that horrifies me.
If you said these clips were from the 80s I'd believe you 😂
Why is the line distribution actually better than SK groups tho 💀💀
Is communism comrade :D
Jin and jisoo 👀👀
because i believe they're all need to be superbly talented in all areas if they want to be selected for the band in the first place. in kpop they have varying level of skils with 'positions' like main singer, lead singer, dancer, visual. ofc the line distribution is going to be not equal, in order for the song to sound the best as they can. idk why kpop fans don't understand this.
Because they are being held at gunpoint lmao? It’s literally a life or death situation
I think its because of the low quality of recording that it sounds old. The vocals have these echo thingy that makes it sound like those old songs u hear on like old anime songs and pop songs lol
It's not just that,it's also the style of music.
Sounds like the theme songs from 90s anime
fascinating - i'm glad you looked into NKpop - love your cover dance
they gave me an eurovision vibe or an ABBA vibe
I knew they would be dressed in some kind of military uniforms .. geez north korea is so patroitic
They're doing it against their own will unfortunately
The first band reminds me of celeb five
Props to you for doing this, really enjoyed it.
I had always hoped someone would make a video like this! :D
The most famous one is actually good. Sounds like music in the 80s 90s.
I never thought North Korea would have pop. You don't look dorky with glasses, I think women with glasses are very cute
The groups are like... the North Korean 80s pop version of Kalafina 😂
Kalafina?! 😂 How?
Now that I think about it, pretty much yeah lmao
hmm noticed how when they dance, they're never still? it's almost like they're... marching👀😳
Or dodging poisoned darts or staying away from the red laser dots.

Im so glad to see this one comment ..as a proud myday myself😌
Hyon Son-wol is also supposed to be the leader of the Moranbong Band and is seen in Moranbong uniform in a picture of the entire Moranbong Band, vice directors/arrangers and Marshal Kim Jong Un and his wife Ri Sol-ju (who was also a singer, in the Unhasu Orchestra, it has been speculated that she might've even been a part of the Moranbong Band if she had not married Marshal Kim Jong Un, but that is a whole story for another day...)
As for the Moranbong Band, it seems likely that the original members were chosen by Marshal Kim Jong Un, who came to a lot of their rehearsals and was quite well involved in the early days of the band (he was also said to be a big fan of British rock guitarist Eric Clapton), but it seems that over the years his involvement has become less.

Korean Pop. I wonder why that is 🤔
what if they are in their 30s and 40s
Maybe longer training so that they are as close to perfection?
im pretty sure they are in their 20s it's just that we associate their dress with old people
The music was a lot like i was expecting very dated the fashions as well. you did well with the dance cover and liked your outfits also. :D
I love the harmony of their voice .

Actually North Koreans really love Girls Generation as a group and also love their song Genie, that explains why they were wearing uniforms.
lol. great video (and covers). i think if you wanted you could be a top star in the DPRK although the thought of what you'd have to go through to be hand picked is a bit scary.

Really cool video! It was fun getting to know about something I had no idea existed. And congrats on making the first North Korean pop dance cover, haha! :)
Kim Jong Un wants your location
Maybe change it a tiny bit though, maybe more upbeat
Woh, Chongbong band is actually very good.
They actually slayed that dance routine
Rest of the world:*moving along with time*
North Korea: *stuck in the 70s/80s*
Fascinating, my mother-in-law was born in NK. (Congrats on graduating).
Is this really as hard as medias say there?
@@pyongbongbestlightstick5651 I think so. Mom is an unprecedented tough nut.
Hiiiiii, I really I want to learn dances from Kpop, I really love your videos
Love love love your dance covers!! Honestly don't mind their music. Sounds like something from older Miyazaki movies.
The group that came to my mind was Wonder girls. To me they look like the North Korean version of the Wonder girls.
when was those videos taken?
wow they we're left behind in time.
EDITED: so 2015.
Really like the fact that @Ploopy678 is so respectful in the video like she did not criticise nor judge the NK artists but maintain a neutral stance. 👏
P.s. Just curious, @ploopy678 but what is ur nationality? I am SINGAPOREAN 🇸🇬🇸🇬🇸🇬
I love this video! I think you handled everything very respectfully. And your dance cover was a treat.
lmao the dance cover at the end was lowkey good
This is such a throwback to 80's/ 90's japanese/ asian city-pop vibe.. I love them wahh
Wow! The first group dance very well and that choreography though is fiercer compared to what is KPOP. The fact that it is too old already! Good! Hope this country change much!
Firstly, I salute you for the disclaimer you added at the beginning of the video. Respect
im gonna be honest, it is not that bad. and im honestly into it 😂😂😂
I liked the chongbong band song that was shown - strong 80's vibes ^^
That was certainly amusing.
But, I couldn’t help but cringe over how it sounds like oldie tracks from the 70s-80s. 😂
the song you did the cover to is actually really catchy and nice! hahaha but i agree with you, they all sound very 80s pop. not just cantopop, but western pop as well haha. those beats and synth sounds tho
i can't believe you actually did a cover. and respectfully too! I love this channel more by the day
Ya'll saying "so 80s" like it's a bad thing. Even S.K. is stuck in the early 90s/00s pop for a while.
Idk why it’s surprising to people tbh... it was very obvious to me that North Korean bands etc would look like that bc they’re definitely not as advanced
@@Dztruxtion Exactly. People are simple.
I love songs from this time, just the north korean one missed the vibe.
