I’m still riding my 2005 Allez Elite. Front basket, rear rack with panniers, I have carried a massive amount of groceries on it, put it through a lot of abuse, and it still keeps going with no problems. Heck of a bike.
I bought the grey one he's talking about. In love with it. I ended up changing the brakes to 105's instead of tektros, not going to lie I didnt feel a huge difference on my test ride afterwards but I'll find out when I go out on my next 30 mile or so ride. This bike is definitely worth it especially in the grey color
@@irishman485 you're going to love it, buy a bike soap that doesn't need water asap first few rides can really fuck up the paint man wipe it down after every ride or so
The 2018 Allez which has the sloping top-tube is gorgeous and it is a bit confusing that the other Allez frames look like this one. I hope Specialized does not discontinue the current top-end Allez frame as it looks great as a Sagan replica or Red Hook Crit mount.
The mud guards are certainly not Specialized Drytech - spent half the day trying to get them to fit to my allez elite: back ok but front doesn’t :-( Not enough clearance under the front brake calliper...... Anyone know what is installed on the bike in this video?
Wish Specialized would make an Allez that could compete against the CAAD12s. They missed the mark by manipulating the geometry for comfort rather than aggresiveness like the Tarmac.
Caad12 for long races and less harsh ride quality. Allez Sprint for slightly shorter races, triathlons, and stiffness. The Sprint was designed as the purest crit bike but I would personally use it over a tarmac.
I'm confused and hope someone could help me understand how this bike can have praxis cranks and trekko or what ever breaks and still be classified as 105? Just seems like a jumble of mixed parts, looks like a brilliant bike and I want one but it's not truly a 105 group set is it?
It does have the 105 dérailleurs and shift lever but the other components (cranks, brakes, and tires) are supplied by Specialized’s own brand. The Trek Emonda’s are always equipped with a full groupset from Shimano. I have this exact E5 model but a 2018 and it has been amazing. I upgraded almost everything on it including a full 105 groupset.
Definitely, you can upgrade the drivetrain, wheelset, brakes, and more. The bike is designed to be very versatile and compatible with industry standards. This is a killer bike for getting into riding. It'll be amazing to do short fun rides and still be very competitive on races. You can't go wrong with this bike. There are two things you can't do with the bike, you can't put wide gravel tires on it, and you can't install disc brakes. If you want a gravel bike and disc brakes check out the Salsa Journeyman. Preferred the sloping top tube and higher seatstay look personally, but an even lighter bike at the same price is impressive, the Allez was already very light a beautiful to ride

I think only the rims are by DT Swiss, the hubs are normally axis brand made by Specialized and are as cheap as chips. Also I think there are other bikes to be had for the same money but better... your paying for the name.
I could hear Oliver dying a bit inside @ 2:25. Any advantages of rim brakes on a winter bike are pretty laughable. Isn't that heresy in the context of cycling journalism?
Sorry Ollie, can't agree with you here. The frame and Praxis crankset aren't very attractive to me. Compared to something like a Rose Pro this is a bit of a dog.
What? Praxis bs cranks and axis horribilis brakes? Some of the worst wheelsets there are and horrible cables and housings? Specialized skimping again. Stop advertising this crap please. If specialized did not pay you please grow a conscience. Get a btwin for a winter bike and spare yourself 500 quid.
Didn't expect to see Ollie from GCN here!
Ollie was at cycling weekly before joining GCN mate
@@james1994jt yeah I know 😂... Just funny to see him in anything but GCN.

I’m getting one.... definitely not getting the mud guards
mudguards are: SKS Wide Road Mudguard Set - 700c x 25-35c
you mean i can actually remove them and put a 35c tire?
I really like my new glossy red Allez 2018, nice bike from the start but also worthy of upgrading over time.
I'm about to buy the 2020 version, and it's going to be my first road bike
Same here they have a battleship grey one that looks cool

Hi Guys! Just asking if this frame is Di2 compatible? Thanks
s.b. knows which fenders are mounted?
Does anybody know where I could purchase this bike now ?
the use of mixed off brand components is a nonstarter, trek spec their bikes w complete groupsets
Then pay twice as much and get everything matching...
2:40 did you chop up and sample Nu shooz I can't wait?
Nice to meet you at the Belper hc on a considerably different bike from this one, alloy Allez Ollie & no doubt well more than 4.8kg!

They did and it's called Allez Sprint and it will crush the CAAD12, I'll choose the sprint over the CAAD12 any day

Just noticed that all video shots with Ollie riding that the bike has no front mudguard installed
Can I fit fatter tires on this bike? For gravel cycling? And which size of tire would you guys reccomend?
Thank you.
Got one just today.
So-called winter bike without disc brakes seems backwards to me. Forget the grams, wouldn't a rider want superior braking performance in the wet?
Thinking of getting this bike, very pleased you reviewed it. What is the weight and the size of frame that you used for this video?

Can you use 28mm tires with this bike.?
haha, so suddenly rim brakes are great again? Great stuff, I don't need to buy a new bike then :)
I know this was 3yrs ago, but honestly I think Disc brakes are pointless if you live somewhere where there's no crazy hills. It's overkill

Great bike for the money.
What fenders are being used in the video?
What is the weight of this bike?
OK, it´s lighter but what´s the weight???
What size is the test bike
How much money do you think it would close to switch the breaks to 105?
Around $50 for Shimano brand.
