    We agree that the prices are over inflated. Another useful solution that we have found is that if you use the IP Webcam application on Android with no additional downloads on desktop. Once you start the apps cam server it will give you and IP Address for your local network eg. 10.0.0.200:8080 Append /jsfs.html to the IP address for the cam on your local network (10.0.0.200:8080/jsfs.html). Then you can use place that URL into your OBS, XSpliter, or Browser and have a network IP cam. Hope this helps someone as well. We use Galaxy S10 which has a good quality camera anyway. We have no affiliation with this application for the record.

    • @razemix
      @razemix 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      IP Webcam is great, but on many phones with crappy Wi-Fi it can cause significant latency and also drop a lot. What you can do instead is use the USB tethering feature. First, activate the airplane mode on your phone. This will ensure that your PC won't use your cellular data and as a bonus you won't get interrupted by phone calls. Second, connect your phone to your PC using a USB cable and activate USB tethering. Now your PC should be connected to a second network (your phone) through the USB cable. Now start the IP Webcam app on your phone and in the desktop app ( ip-webcam.appspot.com/ ) set the IP adress to 192.168.42.129. Voila, you have a pretty solid connection.

      I use it too. I have an iPhone 11 Pro and in the computer app I set the iso to 0 and the “exposure” setting (which appears to just be shutter speed mixed with extra gain) to 215 on 24fps. I also fill the screen with my gray card before locking the white balance. I also have the Sirui portrait clip on lens over the main iPhone lens to get a better dof. I end up with something that looks like a DSLR image, especially when scaled down in OBS for streaming.

    I've been using EpocCam HD with an iPhone 11 Pro since March and the picture quality is great. I also tried it on my iPhone 7 and the quality was definitely not as good. I will say that if you want audio with EpocCam you have to upgrade to the paid version, but at $7 and a one time cost it wasn't too bad. Also, I can confirm that the audio sometimes gets out of sync as my co-worker has a hard time keeping a straight face when I turn into "kung-fu movie" mode. I find that exiting the app and coming back fixes it.
    The issue I'm finding with using the phone for a webcam is eye-line. I've tried propping the phone up on boxes while it sits in a stand but it never looks like I'm looking directly at the camera, and often I have to block a lot of my monitor so it's just awkward and not a great WFH solution.
    I recently bought a bunch of the cheap HD webcams off Amazon and I'm less than impressed. A lot of them, when brought into OBS, seem to default at 640x480 despite being "1080p" I have also noticed when comparing them in zoom they are aliased and not as clear as the cameras that do show up as true HD 1920x1080 in OBS, unfortunately, those tend to be far too red or blue in tone. I am suspicious that Zoom uses the default setting in this case 640x480 despite being set to HD, which is why they look so bad in Zoom. Thanks for this video!

    I tried droidcam before finding this video, and I wasn't all that impressed. I refunded it almost immediately. I found an alternative called IP webcam, and it feels much more feature-complete even if you use the non-pro version (for instance, being able to swap whether it uses the front or rear camera gives you much more flexibility for placing your phone), and can do higher than 720p resolution. It requires similar set up, but I found it much more robust and versatile.

    • @reyhudson563
      @reyhudson563 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sorry, I'm not sure I understand... mirror image? is that because you hold the camera (phone) vertically. Horizontal videoing is the "recommended" format unless you're filming trees or waterfalls. Absolutely drives me CRAZY on newscasts when people have filmed stuff using the camera vertically and then the TV studio's software has filled in mirrors on both sides. (But maybe that's not what you mean, is it?)
      One thing is sure: though, technically, there are heaps of differences between old style photography and smart - cams, a basic understanding of photography such as the light source and camera settings and capabilities can make a big difference in the final outcome of the image. Like, for example, people video with the window and white curtains BEHIND them, so the camera automatically adjusts their face to be dark and rather grey, or they want to get their girlfriend and the sunset in the same shot so the camera tries to adjust the red sunset to be white and their girlfriend a grey silhouette.
      TV anchors used to invariable sweat 'cause they were under a mass of hot lights ON THEIR FACES!

    DroidCam caused me no end of headaches ... including taking out my sound and USB drivers mid-calls. Not fun suddenly losing audio AND all keyboard/mouse functions. It DID work, but at the expense of everything else going to crap. Then I discovered that Canon released a webcam utility for their digital SLRs and used that for a bit until my cheap ($40/50) 1080p number came from Amazon. Never heard of the random Chinese brand, but it works and the picture is sharp. Mic quality isn't amazing, but I have a USB mic hooked up and a headset anyway. There are some decent cheap options out there, if you don't care about it being a name brand.

    I cant believe people still buy webcams. I thought everyone moved over to digital slr or used the webcam built into the laptops.

    • @RoamGaming
      @RoamGaming 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      many laptops don't have built in webcams. side effect of small bezels. and if you are doing this to twitch stream games most laptops are not up to the task. A $1000 dslr plus capture card plus space to actually set the thing up is not a realistic option unless you are a professional streamer / content creator. other options are slowly becoming available for digital camera's (canon just released some software that should cut out the need for capture cards although there are still some serious limitations with their webcam utility) but the odds of a casual user figuring it all out are slim. a webcam is plug and play and dramatically cheaper (even at these inflated prices) than using a dslr. if you go with off-brand products the price for a webcam can drop under $30 pretty easily. a gopro starts at $200 and still requires the capture card and mounting hardware. it is also super wide angle and will distort your face pretty badly. Great for POV shots heliboarding but not so good for closeups. So, it is still cheaper, easier, and faster to use a webcam. I own 3 gopros, a canon dslr, a fuji digital rangefinder, as well as 3 digital video cameras (2 sony and cheap chinese brand). I use a logitech webcam almost exclusively for content creation if i need a live feed to the computer. I use the sony video cameras when i need video but can add it in later in Premier. If your purpose is an occasional zoom meeting than a cheap webcam is fine. If you want to stream, then a slightly better webcam is fine. after all, you only need a small video feed of you in one corner or the other. Huge resolution is not needed and can actually be a hinderance if it slows your computer down trying to process it while streaming. a gopro does not save you any money and only adds complexity to the system. if you already own a gopro or a suitable digital camera with a live output (or a canon with the proprietary canon software and use windows and live in the U.S.) than those options may be easier. but if you are starting from scratch than a $25-$200 webcam is probably still the best option. my 2 cents.

Stick that into the $1`5 capture card that you talk about in the future, and the result is superior to any webcam. I was in the market for a webcam to replace this but I will look into the gopro now also. If I can use it without OBS I will . Thanks for the info friend!

      Yes, you don't need to use OBS to replace your webcam. I just used it for demonstration recording in this video.

    OBS and webcam - this bug longs several months, it doesn't matter if it is virtual or directly connected webcam. many times I have to unplug and plug it back or restart several times OBS or create a new scene.

    Thanks for the vid. Very useful! Which capture card is best at the cheapest price to use my Canon c100 mkii as a webcam. I need it for a zoom conversation but I need it to be HD quality as the call will be broadcast on Television. Im hearing that alot of the capture cards drop down the picture quality. What was the picture quality that you got on your go pro out of interest? was that 1080?

      Yeah, I got 1080, I have a follow up video on capture cards here; I actually recommend the cheapest one on the list. th-cam.com/video/AVLLmaF4hk0/w-d-xo.html
      Do NOT use the red capture card that I used in this video. This generic El Cheapo is way better. amzn.to/30u7OPL

      @@LowDoughTech Thank you thank you thank you!! I was about to buy that AGPTek one and then I watched this. I'm in the Uk so was unable to use your link. Whilst I was looking I found this one which uses a 3.0 port, which i'm told will make for faster speeds. Hopefully the brand is good. But if not at least I didnt break the bank! Excellent video. I did great with the WiFi option but I have trouble connecting my phone with USB on DroidCam. Do you know what might be wrong?

    I used droidcam for some time but I prefer iVcam. Has higher res in free version and only a small watermark will get in the way but for me. no big deal.

    Yeah, I would do this, but like, my teachers will throw a nutty at me if they find out that I'm not actually using my school-issued chromebook, but instead just using my rig and just mirroring my chomebook tabs to make it look like I'm working on there, found a pretty highly reviewed and well liked cheap 1080p webcam so I'll fold in since it's only $21 rn.

    I already have that go pro. So if I got the capture card, I’ll need to buy the cable too. But can I stream this with streamyard or TH-cam’s live stream? Or do I have to use the one studio software? Great video and you may have saved me the headache of going through the web c rabbit hole

      If you have the cable and GoPro, it will act exactly like a webcam, so if Streamyard and TH-cam will accept a webcam as a source, it will work. I don't know how streaming to either of those platforms directly work, I've always done TH-cam streams through OBS Studio.
