Amazing insight expressed by Alan Watts. The purpose of life is to live. Living involves playing not working. Upto now, we have been socialized to believe that we must first work before we can play. This division has created a neurotic society. Even when it is becoming more obvious that we can actually make robots that can do all the work, we are still not willing to accept the real purpose of living- playing.
Throughout my life and childhood in the 1970s I have heard this speculated. In the UK at least the leisure age has not materialised and I doubt it ever will. However people are paid not to work but at a subsistence level ensuring there is no dignity.
I agree. I also think that work (labour) is not only good for the psyche but breeds dignity and I for one would not wish it away for some utopian fantasy. Thanks for watching ✨
The 60's and the 70's were times when people were more romantic, the music, the movies, the freedom movements, everything was packed with emotions. Everybody, including Allan Watts, thought we were going to progress, both technologically and spiritually. But the said reality is that we have regressed severely. The technology not only made us greedier and stupider than before, it created a huge space were mediocrity can rule for ages. It's not in our nature to enjoy life and play with it. We like to enslave our minds and live like reckless, oblivious zombies. Machines are not going to make our lives easier. They will most likely become our employers one day, and we will enjoy being their slaves. I've recently lost my job and have no income. But I'm feeling better than ever before. I'm awake and I don't want to work anymore. And if I end up homeless because of that choice, I don't care. I will always be free.

Thank you Bozakn for this detailed expression. Appreciate your perspective ✨
