2 liter soda bottle cut in half lengthwise, but leave the spout end intact. Just make sure its wedged in so that the spout is slightly lower, and the excess fluid will run down and out the spout, where you can pinpoint the drips.😎👍

The oil level was barely above “Add”, do you recommend only filling to that level? The manual recommends between half and three-quarters up the stick even saying “full” is acceptable. Most individuals fill to 3/4.’s full to avoid “oil-misting” the air filter.

Thank for vid did all my fluids in my 2019 fxlr lowrider super easy I do recommend when you use the o-ring to put a little pipe dope on the threads with a fresh o-ring I believe it would help in case that o-ring weather cracks from hot and cold and leak proof

    I have the following order:
Remove the oil plug and watch how fast the oil comes out. With this I evaluate the function of the diaphragm for the cylinder head ventilation. Afterwards I open the dipstick and the oil must come out much faster. Not my idea but I like it.

Thanks for this. One tip I came across is, after you put the new oil in, to take the drain plug back out until you see the clean oil run through, to prevent any possible cavitation. Makes layperson sense to me but do you have any thoughts?

I have the FXLRS (114) and 4 quarts doesn’t even hit the dipstick cold (filled filter before installing too). The oil kit from Harley comes with 5 quarts/new o-ring and it’s get me a cunt hair above the middle of the dipstick. Used aluminum foil and pressed it into the shape of the filter wrench and didn’t get any oil on the engine. Thanks for the video.

    • @jpcycles

Not necessarily, you may save a bit of cleanup that way but it will probably drain better upright .

  • @coreyandnathanielchartier3749
    @coreyandnathanielchartier3749 2 ปีที่แล้ว

It is easier and faster for the oil pump to prime if it has only air downstream of it. Pre-filling the filter has been shown in tests to increase the time it takes the pump to purge the air, and can cause cavitation. Also suggest you change the filter first, then drain and fill the oil. This decreases the time for the pump to lose prime during oil change. Small difference, I know, but on some engines (especially, large industrial engines without priming gear), loss of prime can take an alarming amount of time to remedy. BTW, what mileage are you guys changing your oil at?

You could've tried punching a hole in the filter. Allows it to drain. I do it with my 1200. I have a 3/8" Spinner Handle. Like the common 1/4" drive. But with a 3/8" head. Teflon Locker, I bought a tube of Pipe Thread Teflon at the local HD. Looks like toothpaste. If you're only running 2 minutes, I'd fill it to Halfway between Add and Full.

I'm puzzled about the oil expansion with heat.
I did my intial fill and I was at the first quarter of the dipstick.
I started the bike 5 minutes like you did and checked the level ... no mark.
I put a little more, get to a little under the half, start the bike, check the level ... same.
I do the process again and get to just under the half.
Yesterday went for an 1 hour ride in town and when I came back, the level was way above the full hot ...
What did I do wrong ?

It no longer matters. The HD motor company can not just lower prices. We now have access to Harley corporate balance sheets. This motor company in the red by almost 500 million. They are forced to sell bikes with substandard parts, just to generate the "shop-income" in some veil attempt to service some of these loans. This company in such a death spiral, is now only a matter of time before the banks start calling them in on some of these loans.........

Gary Moore You’re greatly mistaken; the profit margin was down compared to the previous three quarters of the year reported. That certainly isn’t 500 million in the red; just lower in profit. You intentionally casting clouds?

I'm not even a Harley fan, but looking at their 1Q2020 10Q, their balance sheet looks fine. Cash flow wise, their nearly doubled cash and cash equivalents in Q1. And this is on the back of basically every volume target being off due to COVID-19. I need to go back and look at the FY19 10k, but financials seem to look fine. They are a publicly traded company so their financials can be downloaded from their investor page or from the SEC through Edgar. Not sure why you need to upload the balance sheet to Wikileaks. So I just looked at the 10K for 2019 and they posted nearly a $500 million dollar profit at the net income. This was down by $100k from FY18, but still healthy. It did look like they were having a slight cashflow issue in FY19, but as I said, that was corrected in Q1 2020 and thats a normal part of business operations. i'm not sure where you're getting your information from.
