  • This is our final episode in a 3 part series of exploring the Ancient City of Angkor. In this episode we capture sunrise at the actual Angkor Wat Temple which is said to be the best sunrise spot in the world. It is also the largest temple in the world at that. Then we take you deeper into the ancient city to see a temple so intricately detailed that it is believed that only a woman could have carved its pink sandstone walls. The name is Banteay Srei, but commonly referred to as "Lady Temple". Last, but not least, enjoy a stroll through the rubble of Preah Khan Temple and the beautiful ruins that still remain as the sun sets on a perfect last day here in the heart of Cambodia.

    What happens in this video?
    In the video, Charlie and Liz from the Adventure Closet explore the Angkor Wat complex in Cambodia, one of the largest religious monuments in the world. They marvel at the size of the complex, which spans 400 square kilometers, and discuss the mystery surrounding the ancient Khmer empire that built it over 900 years ago and then abandoned it.
    They start their journey before sunrise, aiming to see the main temple at Angkor Wat. They emphasize the importance of keeping tickets ready for multiple ticket checks throughout the park. As they approach the temple, they note the large crowds gathered for the sunrise and the impressive moat and courtyard leading to the temple itself.
    Charlie and Liz describe the temple's massive stone structures and speculate on how the stones were transported from 40 kilometers away. They decide not to climb the central spire, which is 28 stories high, due to the crowds and instead focus on the intricate carvings and architecture.
    They express some frustration with the number of tourists, which they feel detracts from the experience. Despite this, they acknowledge the temple's beauty and grandeur. They also mention the heat and humidity, advising viewers to stay hydrated and take breaks.
    The video also includes a visit to a smaller, more remote temple made of pink sandstone, known as the "Lady Temple," due to the intricate carvings believed to have been done by women. They explore the temple's library and admire the original weathered carvings.
    Charlie and Liz encounter vendors selling souvenirs and discuss the discomfort of being persistently approached to buy items. They then visit Preah Khan Temple, noting the destroyed carvings and the massive size of the complex.
    The video concludes with Charlie and Liz acknowledging the limits set by the intense heat and humidity, expressing a wish to explore more but also a sense of satisfaction with what they've seen. They thank viewers for watching and encourage them to like, subscribe, and check out their Patreon.

    Woooow, incredible place, so speechless throughout this whole place. This intro was well done, nice editing Charlie and I loved the voice over Liz! Loud cicadas were ao loud, more thsn here! That snake railing is so impressive and cool, and the walkway stones are big. Hard to move that many. I love reflection shots! Priceless moments, you can feel the energy here! So beautiful and outstanding! Amazing what people can do! Definitely hard to take this all in, so much work, time, emotions, efforts, hardships! Love all the sounds of nature around you. I wonder if that swampy area that's magical used to be clear and a good water source. What a special special extra special place. Healing and good vibrations here!!!! At the beginning I said speechless, this comment wad not that, lol, it's so speechless I'm speechmore!

    Your videography in this series was top notch. All through it I felt like I was walking there with you. The temples were amazing. I'm glad you got to see the main one even though it was so crowded. Sometimes that's something you just have to put up with. It was definitely the star of the show, but I honestly liked most of the others better, where you could get a little more up close and personal. My favorite overall was the one with the elephant carving in the last video. Safe travels as you continue your adventure.

    Wow thank you both so much for taking us with you, showing us what you get to experience in person, I remember the relentless sounds of Cicadas,! The temples, were vandalized, what a shame on humanity, and even today we see the lack of respect for creation everywhere, I saw a person in a neighborhood put garbage in a well manicured hedge! He could not carry his empty goods in the sack and place it where it could be taken to the dump. so he buried it in a hedge! the edacity hits me with the impact of the damage done to faces on stone! Its immoral. With homeless people everywhere now, their camps are trash heap and a din of danger. robbers wait for you at grocery stores. and there are beggars at every stop light. you now have to stop your car with a full car length between you so that you may have the chance to get away from active car hijacking in traffic. Civilization has not changed! the heat in a humid climate like this is totally unbearable without a fan, I am glad you drink lots of water, and am happy your are both well enough to endure it. There were times in Puerto Rico the air was heavy with moisture it was hard to breathe it.

    I don’t know which of you is the writer, or maybe you both are-I just know I saw writing talent in a lot of your comments and responses to people in the comments. The reason I’m bringing that up is I’m wondering if you’d ever want to write about your travels, like in narration or story form-I’ve read a lot of cool travel novels elsewhere (“Stoned with Savages” was one), where people just describe their experiences. I think those nagas are built is to protect the temples. I think it takes back in ancient time with birth of Khmer. Like the story of Prince Thong and Queen Soma of Funan. Which Queen Soma represent of naga from the Funan. We call her Neang neak in Khmer.

    Angkor Wat / City Temples never sleep until now. Rumors said they're always monks taking care the temples even after the city was abandoned years ago. I had a chance to visit the temples way back in mid 60s with my family as a teenager and sadly most of them did not survive the genocide there. Only memory lives on.

    Those statues were decapitated not because of any historical religious conflicts but rather because of looting. Sadly many statues were stolen and sold to art collectors and museums around the world. Those that were too big to move, heads were chopped off and stolen instead.

    • @TheAdventureCloset
      @TheAdventureCloset  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Amazing but sad that because those buildings differed from their religion, the heads were removed.. in my opinion, it destroyed the antiquity of the place. Sort of like tearing down statues and renaming pancake mix because it doesn’t agree with some peoples thinking and they want to change history.
