The title reminds me of one of those Mario vs Luigi opinions meme: What are the Mario brothers thoughts regarding clearing a compound of enemy combatants while reducing risk to the soldiers and hostages inside? Mario: *place long winded page worth of text here regarding setting up L's, pieing off corners, utilizing non-lethal hand helds to disrupt the enemy, etc.* Lugio: When in Doubt, Frag them out.
Yeah. it's a problem in DK1 as well. Maybe the devs can add it so that even when all enemies are dead, you still need to visually clear 95% of the level, or something.
Yeah, there should be different objectives depending on the game mode. Campaign should require you to clear the whole compound (assuming that's the mission) or achieve an objective (rescue hostage) whereas you don't necessarily need to clear the rest of the compound to exfil the area. But even if you killed every enemy combatant the mission shouldn't end because you don't know for sure the compound is cleared yet, so you still have work to do if there's not an objective that will end the simulation... Imagine how much more "realistic" this game would be if you couldn't even see the layout of the rooms until one of your men see it with their own eyes, provided the mission briefing didn't include blueprints.
1:54 - It's a little hard to make out clearly, but judging from the side profile of that weapon, I'm pretty sure it's a SR-3M Vikhr. The stock and the foregrip being right up the front of the handguard are pretty reminiscent of the Vikhr. If they start showing up later in the game as a weapon the enemy combatants have equipped, you could be in for some hurt.
Foreign Advisors carry them, which is an enemy type. In fact, the guy in the window at 4:02 is indeed a Foreign Advisor who is carrying one. The weapon you should be worrying about is the PM63. Only exists as a pickup but it's the best gun in the game at the moment. Since armor isn't added properly, it has an insane firerate with the ability to 2 or 3 shot your dudes, plus being an SMG it has very quick reaction time.
Reminds me of a MI battalion sticker on a paper towel dispenser in Bagram: "Unaware, Unafraid". It had one serious looking duck and a clueless one in a beach chair.
Yes I was waiting please don't ever stop making these door kickers videos I just love the realistic approach I tried finding other channels doing this and they were just not as satisfying as yours
You did way better than I did! I think my mistakes were spreading my guys too thin(aggressively peeking corners instead of holding angles like your guys did), and giving the enemy too many fair fights, which they tended to win in my experience. Great video!
This fight mostly developed in quite a believable way but I have a question: Could that wall shot realistically be employed this quickly in an emergency? I'm already assuming several more seconds or a minute would have passed before the decision was made in real life as soldiers don't have a hive mind and a God's eye perspective on the situation the way the game is played. Realistically, I think swinging around the outside wall is the more likely decision but fortunately this is a game where we can enact much cooler fantasies.
The way you describe, maneuvering around the building to the isolated dude, would be the much more likely decision, for sure. The charge, though, could actually be put on pretty quick, not as quick in the game, but still.
@@ControlledPairsGaming Right. The way the game is played there is zero downtime. All of these same actions and the decision making in the real world would not conclude in under 2 minutes like what happened in the game. Perhaps even the 15 minute runtime of the video is on the optimistic side.
Great content dude! You americans are really good at urban/cqc/mout. Would you agree that maybe it would be better to move in the 4man team from the north before you move in the 2man team from the east? I think that those 4 from the north would be able to move and attack more safely than the pair from the east. Safety in numbers of rifles covering angles. Im not as good as you in MOUT so would be interested to hear your opinion. (You could maybe make a video explaining every casualties you take in this series. I learn a lot from you) Thank you for a good video!
I love this game, wish they add reinforcements in some stages after clearing everyone... Or finishing the obj. Great video and commentary hope to see more.
I felt extremly icky about the East team entrance. Entering in the middle and a wide open area. Plus the east side of the building has so many windows, a nightmare. I let the North team enter first. Two securing westwards and the big middle window on the North wall, the other two working until the north east corner, to peer down into the big open area and getting it a bit more secure for the East team to enter. That idea played out well. It gave me the corner nest east north and the East team had a good forceful entrance and got the east south corner. The three windows have still been a nightmare and I lost one, just like you
Damn... These fuckers shoot thru their own buddies jus to get us lol. That was another great one CP keep it up. I think u should've moved in the second element as soon as those nades went off over the wall in the North Eastern and Southeastern corners and maybe they could've established dominance to the north and mitigated the casualty. But hey I learned something new today... Friendly fire is a thing now😅👍
I'm curious what you think of the game overall, also if it's ever reached the point where you've actually failed and had to restart. Loving the series, it's quite informative and fun to watch. Learning more about these tactics are actually helping me write better and more believable combat scenarios in my stories.
If you watch carefully you can sometimes see where there's an existing "best time" on the stats screen, so not all of these are completely blind playthroughs and there's probably some failures. That's entirely fine by the way, DK2 has nasty traps sometimes. But I think we watch this series to see successful tactics employment and learn.
First, thank you for your service. Really enjoy your approach to the game. Protect all your team members. I've seen a few play throughs and the concern is getting through the mission and not team safety. Appreciate the "why" your are doing something. Question. In a real world situation, how much detail would you have on an operation. Such as room layout, furniture placement etc.
I like the full on technical explanations. Giving us a proper insight. Wondering if you've checked out Project Geko and how they clear rooms? Also Xcom 2 might be interesting to see these implemented in.
You could instead simply breach both the top-left and the top-right corners of the outer wall to gain line-of-sight for 3/4 of the area outside the house.
10:59 you do not have the hallway cleared here. There is still plenty of unobserved space for a shooter to be standing. The threat dropped at 10:49 could have been a previously unknown threat or the known threat that traded places with an unknown threat.
A little late on the video, but do you think you'll get around to playing custom maps? Or would you rather fill out the vanilla maps before going in hot?
8:00 you should have given your guys one from the top for cross coverage down that hallway. No reason to have a two man fireteam try to attack like that
Nope. Saw gunner didn't have sight of the bad guy at the door. They don't open fore unless u have a view of them. Sometimes we don't see them and they see us and open fire blindly or with purpose.
For being as cautious, methodic and tactical as you usually are, I'm quite disappointed you didn't use the camera, especially after mentioning it, and then get your guy injured as a result. 3:55 "I could put a camera under here but eh... ... ... I'm not gonna be that patient... 4:48 "continue to wait, be patient"
How would a real world approach to assaulting a build work? You wouldn't have a birds I view of the interior. What is the set up like before the assault ? And great content; loving this informative series.
You would have a bird's eye view... just not the interior. Same approach, less information, fundamentals remain the same. I'm hoping a fog of war feature could exist where the roof prevents seeing the layout.
The 2 on the right at the beginning. After clearing the initial courtyard I'm surprised u sent both guys at that South East wall/door. Suicide imo. I wouldve left the machine gunner at the entry to the compound to give cover pointed at the door/south long corridor outside so if anyone does come through the door or around the corner he melts them. 2nd guy go to the top window flash corridor, peer inside 2 kill threat. 2 guys breaching north wall keep their LOS pointing south 2 cover guy at the east window. Hindsight these 3 would've killed the 2 targets in that hallway. Everything else pretty much exactly how u executed
