    Thank you for sharing .... I have visited Blackpool several times during 1990 - 1992 and I love this place. I remembered the last time I visited I took a picture with the donkeys on the beach.

      +VL Tax Thanks for watching and your comment.
      I worked in Blackpool from 1980 to 1985 and was never off the beach when I finished work. It was like the Klondike then as not many detected and rings were everywhere. Just a shame that the CTX was not around then.

    Nice hunt Mal. The Bovril token was very unique. That 17" coil certainly punches through the sand. All the best. Jason

    Really nice finds. Never find most of those coins over in the States so it's nice to see them come out of the ground. Happy hunting my friend

    Hi vibzz60,
    Thanks for watching and commenting.
    For some reason YT wont let me respond to your comment directly.
    Beach permission in UK
    Most UK beaches do not need any permissions or permits. The only exception is Private beaches (normally signposted) where you need the individual owner's permission and Crown Estate property. As for the CEP you can look on their web site link below where the beach's are and obtain a permit. The permit is free. Just make sure you kick in the fill in any holes you make. Keep the local council happy.
    It is only required for areas indicated by the Crown Estate maps (in purple) and not for the entire foreshore in the UK.
    www.thecrownestate.co.uk/coastal/metal-detecting/metal-detecting-permit-application/terms-and-conditions/
    Also the only restriction on depth you can dig is where the area is also of special scientific interest or on the Thames foreshore without the extra Mudlark Permit.
    Just to clarify no permission is required either for any foreshore in the UK below the mean low tide mark unless designated Military range, SSSI or ship wreck.
    Hope that helps
    Happy hunting
    Mal

    Nice vid, I like that Bovril token!
    I went to Southport a few months ago and didn't even bother to get the detector out of the car ... beach was covered in broken glass and other assorted rubbish ... shame really, it was nice when I was a kid ... I should have gone to Blackpool lol
    All the Best Malcolm

      Stopped hunting at Southport many years ago due to the rubbish and lack of sand movement. OK for coin shooting for recent losses but thats all.

    great quality video Mal, was watching in 720p.
    shame about the finds but at least an old penny.
    I've had a few too many beach detects where I've walked for miles and barely a signal and then wollop! a hotspot but you take the rough with the smooth in this game.
    all the best

      Hi Paul,Blackpool is always a bit hit and miss. Secret is digging in the troughs to find the hard pack. If not move on till you do. You going to Corfe Rally in September?

      Lucky that last £1 was on the sand bar so easier digging. Will make sure I take my scoop with me next time even if only planning a land hunt. You never know as happened this time. HH Mal

    I went to North pier on 22/7/16 and got a great haul of old pennies and half pennies going back to 1918. Went again on 1/8/16 and found 3p! Just goes to show how the tides shift the sand around. Its a tuff break when you drive all the way from Leeds!

    • @malcolmpotter
      @malcolmpotter  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steve, thanks for watching and you kind comment.
      There is one area near where you were when if the tides are right and the sand shifts much silver from Victoria and Edwardian times are found. Only seen it once in all the years been there but if a big concrete block is exposed get in there as won't be uncovered for long.

      yep you have to catch Blackpool right when she is in a giving mood. Worked there for 5 1/2 years so learned a lot about her moods. Many nice bit but also many frustrating days. Will be having another go soon but have to check the tides and weather forecast.

    Enjoyable hunt /day out . The4kingdiggers must of been there and Craig dropped a Bovril token he is a Bovril boy . Nice token though at least you found a few coins. The lads on the east beaches are pulling there hair out the beaches are thick and level with sand. Great video as normal . Cheers DAVE

    Felt really sorry for those donkeys. They looked very bored! Sad what Blackpool has become.... I went about 8 or 9 years ago and it was heaving, nothing like that! By the way Malcolm what happened to your scoop?

    • @malcolmpotter
      @malcolmpotter  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      See post above as was planning land hunts but ended up at Blackpool. Scoop is coming ever trip now as wont want to use the spade again. You dont appreciate how important a good scoop is on a wet beach until you go back to a spade. HH Mal

      +Bradley Oliver Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.
      All down to your budget on what is available.
      There are a good number of decent detectors but there are also some crap. Also depends on where you are searching and that can have a big influence in your selection.
      If your budget is very limiting and you could consider second hand. You have to be careful with this as there are some dodgy detectors on EBay either stolen or copies.
      With a budget of £250 you can buy the Garratt ACE 250 with change to spare.
      The best on the market are the Minelab machines. Land and dry sand only Deus as well as the Minelabs.
      If you can increase your budget to £470 you can get the Minelab XTerra 705.Great land detector and good on dry sand.
      For serious wet beach work a multifrequency detector is really a must if you are looking for good results.
      The only drawback with the single frequency (VLF) they are not that good on the wet sand areas so you are limiting where on the beach you can go.
      All the good stuff in generally in the wet sand or surf. Most of the Bling Bling you see in my videos comes from this area of beaches using multi frequency detectors.
      The only thing I can say is with the cheaper end detector you will soon realised its limitation and look at the better detectors then you take a hit on the cheap one.
      Also the costs of the detector is not all the outlay, there are a good set of headphones, digging spade/scoop, bag, probe etc.
      Hope this helps.

      Also have another wood to search on another roadside permission.

    Hi ***** do you have to have a permit to detect on blackpool and other beaches you have visited?

    • @malcolmpotter
      @malcolmpotter  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the beaches I hunt don't need permits.
      Bournemouth to the west of the pier needs a Crown Foreshore Permit which are free.

    Do you need permission to go metal detecting on Blackpool beach? Going there tomorrow, needing to know.

    • @malcolmpotter
      @malcolmpotter  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Declan, Thanks for watching and your comment.
      No permission needed just make sure you have checked the tide times.
      Low tide is 08:03 and you will be off the beach at high tide at around 12:00 to 12:30 as high tide is at 13:25.
      Big 10m tide tomorrow so watch it as it comes in so you don't get cut off by it getting behind you.
      Go get the Bling Bling

    i used to detect in Blackpool a lot, and found a fair bit of gold, how you work the beach.. best times are after an offshore storm. when the black sand is about 2 to 5 inch down, if your seeing sand over those steps you will not find anything old, low tide and at the tide line.. end of the piers. i have found many old coins, well Victorian coins at the end of the piers. People used to throw them in like a wishing well type thing. Where you find gold rings etc. your wasting your time in the channels... you need to go to the sea facing banks you will see smallish pebbles between the size of a 1p to 50p.. Nothing much passed south pier till you get to St Anne's.. there you will find mostly 303 rounds at the tide line, probably dumped after the war. found a forged brass sovereign there once, up passed north pier towards fleetwood is mostly iron never went up there much so can't inform on that part of the beach.. anyway good hunting :)

      Hi Victor, thanks for watching and your detailed comment.
      I have been detecting Blackpool since the Klondike years starting in 1978 and had many gold and silver items plus a few unusual precious items. But sadly these halcyon days have gone where you were guaranteed a ring every trip. I worked in Blackpool so every day after work I hit the beach. There are other areas that are also production like the concrete block and the tarpaulin areas where many old bits I have found but rarely are they exposed.
      Unfortunately wont be able to get back there anymore as my parents have moved back to Scotland so nowhere to stay nearby.
      HH Mal
