    Great insights in the video. Adrian Schrinner's take on decision-making transparency is refreshing to hear. Mel's ideas on the stadium location and athlete's village are excellent and if implemented would be a win for locals i believe. Hopefully the powers at be dont botch this opportunity for Brisbane. Eagerly awaiting more updates as things progress.

      Schrinner is being hypocritical here. Council decisions under his watch are anything but transparent and often outsourced so the cloak of "commercial in conference" can be used.

    Personally, I would build the new stadium where the current Victoria Park Golf Course is. It would serve sports like Football, Rugby, Races, athletics and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. It would be very close to both Kelvin Grove & Herston Metro stops as well as the Exhibition station on Cross River Rail. In addition, the Inner City bypass could be buried underneath a new public plaza to the South of the Olympic Park & there could also be a smaller adjacent venue that serves the purpose of Brisbane Live for sports such as Basketball, Swimming & Tennis. Plus it should also back onto the existing RNA Showgrounds, which could also serve as a venue for some of the Olympic sports, like Equestrian, and Cricket. Make the Victoria Park & the Showgrounds area the new Olympic Park. It would also improve urban renewal within this Inner Northern Part of the City. A Shopping Centre, as well as public services and a Business Centre, would also be incorporated into the Stadium complex itself, to allow for it to be used even when there are no games on. After all, there is no use spending loads of money on a white elephant that will only serve a handful of events a month. May as well make it flexible, so the Community can also benefit from such a world-class venue & there should also be things included for every generation to enjoy, whether its families, the youth or even the older generation. An Athlete Village would also be built on the Northern fields of QUT Kelvin Grove campus and would become a mix of Student accommodation as well as affordable housing after the games.
    My Brisbane Olympic Park would be used for both sports events as well as everyday life & there will always be things happening. It would become a city landmark & destination.

      Do ya think they could put a station there at Victoria park - right there at your proposed Brisbane Olympic park. Pity plans for Victoria park already progressing.

      I actually submitted to the federal minister and the associated state and council ministers this very idea. The Gabba would remain/upgraded as a secondary stadium and the new 'Brisbane Olympic Stadium' would be located opposite the old Exhibition Building, built partly over the motorway. It has railway access, motorway right underneath for entrance, and the busway station across from it all within vicinity. I was absolutely shocked when the government decided to demolish and rebuild the Gabba, the site is way too small, too congested, and the neighboring apartment buildings will be a nightmare of a security threat for world leaders during the games (they overlook/will overlook the stadium).

    • @JamesFFiT
      @JamesFFiT 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JaydenWilliams-my1br ah good point about security and you are right, traffic sux there too. You are right about Victoria park, they could build a bridge over Bowen bridge road from exhibition station directly to the door of the stadium and your right direct motorway access and no through running streets. I say they keep some of the plans for Victoria park to make it for the people as currently planned but as there are no residents apartments there that could have snipers! build @jaydenwilliams-mr1br stadium next to and above ICB!!!! Heaps of wasted air space!!! Write to the Lord Mayor mate. I’m pretty sure qld rail and BCC would own those air rights and likely pleased to sell off that asset to the state to build a stadium there! They could build the athletes housing there too, and convert to student accomodation afterwards given QUT is there.

    • @JamesFFiT
      @JamesFFiT 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @brisbane.lordmayor this is perfect at The hospital end of Victoria park and build over ICB and rail line and sell that airspace for a stadium there are no residential towers next door like the Gabba as it would be a security nightmare for world leaders in attendance and traffic is crap there. At least the ICB is motorway only and direct access to tunnels and airport for officials. Gabba is in a weird spot for what we want. Make the parklands Olympic park!

    Also Mel another idea I thought of for Brisbane Live. instead of building it above Roma Street, build it where the police HQ at Roma Street is. You can move the Queensland Police Headquarters into the old Myer location. Its a whole five floors. Then you can demolish the Roma Street Police HQ and build Brisbane Live in between Roma Street and a prime riverside location and you can also include a mixed used development next to the Brisbane live complex.

    Perry Park should be getting upgraded and host Hockey instead of Ballymore as Ballymore is in a Public Transport Deadzone and Brisbane needs a 2nd rectangular stadium that people can actually get too due to the amount of Traffic Suncorp has.

    Schrinner is delusional in saying that "everyone" believes that the Olympics are good for Brisbane. I have yet to meet anyone who is keen on the idea and it's likely to be a local failure, just like the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast, and only attended/supported by people from outside the area. Brisbane has some real problems NOW that need to be addressed and less effort and funding should be spent on this vanity project.
