For Europeans this is insane to even know how it feels cu we have strict gun laws... As someone from Belgium I don't understand how you can't drink until your 21 but you can carry weapons. In our country even pepperspray is illegal, a fork can be seen as a weapon...

@ I agree as a Canadian, it may be a regular American phenomenon. But it is not in developed societies where gun ownership is widespread. It is hard to even sympathise with a society which feels that every idiot has the right to own a gun.

I’m hoping there will be another way to view this. I really would loved to see it! I don’t have HBO. It costs too much to have cable and internet, where I am. So I just chose internet and even that, alone, is 💲. I know I am not alone with money being tight these days. And many have it much worse than I. Thankful for what I do have. And have plenty to be thankful for. When 💲is tight, it does make a lot of things more difficult and stressful. Still hope to view this film, eventually. Looks really promising! This trailer made me... happy sad? Like it was sad for the obvious reasons, but at the same time there was this bittersweet, life can maybe get better, life does go on and we have each other. I liked it.

Everyone should see a film that came out last year called "Mass". The most respectful, heartbreaking and beautifully made film I've ever seen about school shootings in America. So underrated. I can't recommend it enough.
yeah after Sandy Hook…the way our government couldn’t even make a change when literally babies died truly did it for me. I knew then we would never have a change. If we as a nation allowed the government to sweep it under the “thoughts & prayers” rug about 6-7 yr olds being massacred then I just don’t see what could spark a change. This trailer made me cry for all of the children of America. I wish them peace in this life and in the afterlife.

But now people are afraid of going to school or mall because they fear of getting shot - by ordinary people they see everyday, some could be their neighbors or school pals. Start worry about the criminals AFTER you solve the first problem, so people can feel safe walking out in daylight.
This is going to be one of those movies that's amazing and will get recognised by the general public but will be completely neglected by the Academy even if it deserves those awards. Looking forward to it. Jenna Ortega is only going to become a bigger star.
As a mom of a Gen Z teen, I watched this without her first and then with her because it was so poignant. Yes, it’s a school shooting movie; but it’s also so much more than that. At points funny and endearing, heart wrenching and gut churning-not necessarily just about the shooting itself (which obviously is the catalyst that brings these characters together), but because of the trauma we all experience during adolescence and young adulthood. Life’s hard enough as it is these days, & then we throw things like mass shootings and domestic terrorism happening ALL. THE. TIME. (I’m writing this one week after Uvslade school shooting, 2 weeks after mass shootings in grocery stores, churches, days after yet another version of the same story). I don’t know how much chance this film has of changing viewers minds on the subject of massive changes to the “2nd Amendment”/i.e. “Don’t let ‘em take our guns!”, as most of us who are watching it already believe strongly that there’s got to be real change in legislation and enacting laws. That said, and on a lighter note: Jenna Ortega is transcendent in this, and, wholly surprised at how great Maddie Ziegler was playing opposite someone of Ortega’s talent. It’s a must-watch family film.
Would love to see your analysis on each shooter and what law changes would have stopped them. I truly believe there needs to be tighter gun laws, but it seems the real issue here is failure to notice the mental health and communicated terror messages of these shooters.
What kind of awards are you talking about? There is entirely too much content out right now. Plus a whole host of new studios with enormous budgets who seem to be greenlighting everything! Is this a movie that will be in theaters or is it only available on HBO? You also have to realize awards are given to movies where the studio submits it for consideration. Studios usually push movies with well-known actors. This movie doesn't have that. It's also the beginning of the year. No one is going to remember this when awards season rolls around later this year. ijs

Not to mention Oscar only award movies within their criteria, such as sensitive topics (racism, politics, biographies, scandals etc), photography difficulties (unnecessary long shots / abusing actors through hell), big directors (no matter how poorly the movie delivered) and other rules they set in their little game. really sad thinking about how a 14 year old killed an 18 year old where I grew up. Sad for the young man who died, for his family, and friends... and also sad for the CHILD who thought he had to win favor with a gang because of the need to know they would have his back. And sad for that child's mother who worked hard to raise him right, and who can't even grieve because how could she dare cry or mourn for him when he killed someone? The whole thing is messed up and far too common.
Don't rush.....because the work force and bad co workers and managers make high school seem like nursery school... Hope your life is blessed and abundant!
Let’s not forget the director of this film, Megan Park played Grace in The Secret Life of the American Teenager along side Shailene Woodley many years ago. They both have come so far and I’m glad to see these two friends working together again. I cannot wait to see this!!
Was in high school when columbine happened and it was a first. Schools changed. Remember practices for that type of issue. Its worse now and nothing changes but finally a movie trying to deal with the actual aftermath of those kids life and hopefully all parents
So I live in Littleton, CO. I was a 6th grader when columbine happened and I was 4miles away in the elementary. Out here we have always had strict protocols to try to keep this from happening. It's just so sad... didn't think I would be raising my daughter with this type of escalating environment. Life is precious... I Pray for anyone that's ever gone thru it. be safe everyone.
I was in 8th grade. I remember I was walking to my class from the office and a TV happened to be on in a classroom with just a couple teachers watching it. I just stopped and listened for what seemed like I dunno, forever. Nothing like this had happened before and i couldn't make sense of it I guess?
1966 University of Texas came before Columbine. It's more abuse of the 2nd amendment, which was only put in place to have citizens back up the small military that existed in the 18th century. Where is the well regulated militia that weapons owners belong to? Whoops, everyone forgot about that.

I'm Canadian and just a few years back here in my own city we had a guy come into a high school and attack two teenage girls with a knife. One girl died, bled out right there in the school hallway. She was a friend of my two nieces; her death hit them pretty hard. In a way you are right that we do not have school shootings here, but please don't kid yourself into thinking that our children are all "safe" in schools. Just last month we had a guy sneak into a high school bathroom (here in this same city) and show a student a huge hunting knife. Thankfully he didn't actually attack anyone, but if a grown man with a hunting knife is brandishing it at students in the bathroom, again children are really not "safe."
I can't imagine how hard life would become for people who experienced and survived school shooting. And harder for parents who lost their loved ones to such heinous crimes. Governments need to wake up and do something about them, yesterday before today.

Living in a country where hearing a loud bang will never be gunfire. I can't imagine immediately knowing that it is in fact gunfire and your life is on the line.

The worst fear I had going to school was having to go to the bathroom. I had to learn how to fight by my own brothers just so I could go to damn bathroom in school. It paid off because on fool decided to assaults' me at my locker. He was badly beaten. He never ever said a word to anyone. When he saw me he just held his eyes down and stayed the hell away from me. I never had to do that again. What is it with the damn kids wanting to fight.

As a life long educator, I can not even watch these types of movies or read the books. It is my worst nightmare. When a 4 year old tells you after an intruder drill that they know where to hide if the bad person comes...there are not really words. Sick of "thoughts and prayers" There is something sick in a society that does more to keep people from voting than to keep people safe.
Secure your firearms in a safe! Please pressure our government to enact laws mandating safes for firearm owners. I say this as someone who owns firearms. I made sure I bought a safe BEFORE I got a firearm because storing them any other way is insane.
Has a person who grew up in America I can relate to this. Never got shot at while in school, but I've been shot at during house parties, clubs and a park once. One of my friends got shot five times in front of me at a house party, he lived.

There should not be an environment in any country where movies like this need to be made. The American gun tragedy will never go away no matter how many movies are made about the consequences of Americans gunning down their own babies, children, sons and daughter, mothers and fathers. So much collateral damage because a part of the American population feels it is their right to own arsenals and to swiss cheese any one who gets in their way.
I can't stand how Shailene Woodley talks, glad to see she's got a minor role in this because it looks like a good film. Very American of course but seems both interesting and well executed.

As an ex-teacher, seeing that bathroom scene hurts me to my core. And with the 10 year anniversary of Sandy Hook coming in the next few months, this discussion will only get louder. And so it should.
Unfortunately the real problem is hardly ever talked about: Almost all school shootings seem to be done by severely bullied kids that finally hit back in desperation. I experienced a "school shooting" first hand here in Sweden (Europe) in 1979. Thankfully that kid only had access to a sling (like David vs. Goliath) and a hammer. That kid usually got beaten up by the bullies about once every second week. And if he hit back the teachers punished him for defending himself (which seems common in many countries). Several years ago when school shootings were a new thing I read up on the first 16 cases in the news (15 in the US, and one in Finland). I quickly found out that 15 of the cases were severely bullied kids that had gotten no help from the schools. Only in one of the cases I could not find any news source stating if the kid had been bullied or not. So, as long as bullying is allowed (and in many ways sort of encouraged/supported) by the schools, school shootings will continue. Just as have happened in all times in history when bullied soldiers have ended up shooting their own "fellow soldiers" or officers.
She's so good. White Bird in a Blizzard turned me onto her. Then, The Spectacular Now made me love her even more. There's a good film with her about being shipwrecked at sea; but I can't recall the name.
Can’t wait to see this. It will hit many kids real hard as it’s now part of our normal experience to have school shooting, but hopefully prepare kids on how to handle/manage it when this hits home which with our crazy gun laws it inevitably it will. Looks really good.

I have never seen a movie try to seriously deal with the aftermath of a school shooting before. I think this could have some serious potential.
Unfortunately, movies like these would only focus with the grief of the victims, not the root of the problem.

its sad that its a story that has to be told but we NEED this. hopefully more people will listen and prevent this from happening again.
really sad thinking about how a 14 year old killed an 18 year old where I grew up. Sad for the young man who died, for his family, and friends... and also sad for the CHILD who thought he had to win favor with a gang because of the need to know they would have his back. And sad for that child's mother who worked hard to raise him right, and who can't even grieve because how could she dare cry or mourn for him when he killed someone? The whole thing is messed up and far too common.
Can't wait to graduate so I won't have to worry as much. Seems like a good movie in the making. SO sorry for those who went through this.
Don't rush.....because the work force and bad co workers and managers make high school seem like nursery school...

N the sadly it can happen in the workforce as well 😔 there have been shootings in universities, office jobs, n even in hospitals in the past.

Let’s not forget the director of this film, Megan Park played Grace in The Secret Life of the American Teenager along side Shailene Woodley many years ago. They both have come so far and I’m glad to see these two friends working together again. I cannot wait to see this!!
This movie looks like it'll wreck me. Jenna Ortega is such an incredible young actress, I can't wait to see this.
Was in high school when columbine happened and it was a first. Schools changed. Remember practices for that type of issue. Its worse now and nothing changes but finally a movie trying to deal with the actual aftermath of those kids life and hopefully all parents
So I live in Littleton, CO. I was a 6th grader when columbine happened and I was 4miles away in the elementary. Out here we have always had strict protocols to try to keep this from happening. It's just so sad... didn't think I would be raising my daughter with this type of escalating environment. Life is precious... I Pray for anyone that's ever gone thru it. be safe everyone.
I was in 8th grade. I remember I was walking to my class from the office and a TV happened to be on in a classroom with just a couple teachers watching it. I just stopped and listened for what seemed like I dunno, forever. Nothing like this had happened before and i couldn't make sense of it I guess?
1966 University of Texas came before Columbine. It's more abuse of the 2nd amendment, which was only put in place to have citizens back up the small military that existed in the 18th century. Where is the well regulated militia that weapons owners belong to? Whoops, everyone forgot about that.

I'm so glad I'm in Canada and my teens don't ever have to worry about this kind of trauma at school. Kids are supposed to be safe at school. 💔
Yet.... They don't have to worry yet. Hold on to that Because in life one thing we've learned is to never say never. Human humans run governments and humans are full of flaws. And as times get harder making decisions for financial gain is a natural thing that humans do. And that goes beyond borders ethnicities and nationality
I'm Canadian and just a few years back here in my own city we had a guy come into a high school and attack two teenage girls with a knife. One girl died, bled out right there in the school hallway. She was a friend of my two nieces; her death hit them pretty hard. In a way you are right that we do not have school shootings here, but please don't kid yourself into thinking that our children are all "safe" in schools. Just last month we had a guy sneak into a high school bathroom (here in this same city) and show a student a huge hunting knife. Thankfully he didn't actually attack anyone, but if a grown man with a hunting knife is brandishing it at students in the bathroom, again children are really not "safe."
Well, we don't envy your taxes, Dear...and we'll keep our guns. Thank you!

I can't imagine how hard life would become for people who experienced and survived school shooting. And harder for parents who lost their loved ones to such heinous crimes. Governments need to wake up and do something about them, yesterday before today.
My goodness!! These babies, pray for these children. My high school years was between the Oklahoma City bombing and Columbine..my children are in high school now where attacks like this is normal. 😓

This reminded me of war when I was a kid and how helpless I felt. And this, you have such a powerful country who spends billions to wage wars all over the globe and they can't protect their own kids inside their own home. How sad.
Living in a country where hearing a loud bang will never be gunfire. I can't imagine immediately knowing that it is in fact gunfire and your life is on the line.
Reminds me of that video where a motorbike backfires at Times Square and everyone loses their shit and runs for the hills. Any bang we hear around my area is an F16 breaking the sound barrier since i live near a small army air base where they train. Dont think a school shooting has ever happened in my country.

The worst fear I had going to school was having to go to the bathroom. I had to learn how to fight by my own brothers just so I could go to damn bathroom in school. It paid off because on fool decided to assaults' me at my locker. He was badly beaten. He never ever said a word to anyone. When he saw me he just held his eyes down and stayed the hell away from me. I never had to do that again. What is it with the damn kids wanting to fight.
And then everyone clapped and Albert Einstein walked you to the bathroom every time after that. 😆

I think '' The Life before her Eyes" was more about trying to trying to ignore and get over it while this looks like trying to deal with it.

@@jenna6421 You didn't know she died until the very end. The main part of the movie was her life in the future, dealing with survivors guilt, trying to bury the past.
As a life long educator, I can not even watch these types of movies or read the books. It is my worst nightmare. When a 4 year old tells you after an intruder drill that they know where to hide if the bad person comes...there are not really words. Sick of "thoughts and prayers" There is something sick in a society that does more to keep people from voting than to keep people safe.
Secure your firearms in a safe! Please pressure our government to enact laws mandating safes for firearm owners. I say this as someone who owns firearms. I made sure I bought a safe BEFORE I got a firearm because storing them any other way is insane.

Has a person who grew up in America I can relate to this. Never got shot at while in school, but I've been shot at during house parties, clubs and a park once. One of my friends got shot five times in front of me at a house party, he lived.

There should not be an environment in any country where movies like this need to be made. The American gun tragedy will never go away no matter how many movies are made about the consequences of Americans gunning down their own babies, children, sons and daughter, mothers and fathers. So much collateral damage because a part of the American population feels it is their right to own arsenals and to swiss cheese any one who gets in their way.

As an ex-teacher, seeing that bathroom scene hurts me to my core. And with the 10 year anniversary of Sandy Hook coming in the next few months, this discussion will only get louder. And so it should.
TW: The "issues of trauma" shown is a school shooting in case anyone wasn't sure if they could watch the trailer or not.
Unfortunately the real problem is hardly ever talked about: Almost all school shootings seem to be done by severely bullied kids that finally hit back in desperation. I experienced a "school shooting" first hand here in Sweden (Europe) in 1979. Thankfully that kid only had access to a sling (like David vs. Goliath) and a hammer. That kid usually got beaten up by the bullies about once every second week. And if he hit back the teachers punished him for defending himself (which seems common in many countries). Several years ago when school shootings were a new thing I read up on the first 16 cases in the news (15 in the US, and one in Finland). I quickly found out that 15 of the cases were severely bullied kids that had gotten no help from the schools. Only in one of the cases I could not find any news source stating if the kid had been bullied or not.
So, as long as bullying is allowed (and in many ways sort of encouraged/supported) by the schools, school shootings will continue. Just as have happened in all times in history when bullied soldiers have ended up shooting their own "fellow soldiers" or officers.

Can’t wait to see this. It will hit many kids real hard as it’s now part of our normal experience to have school shooting, but hopefully prepare kids on how to handle/manage it when this hits home which with our crazy gun laws it inevitably it will. Looks really good.
