The exterior hotel shots in Carry On Girls were filmed at The Clarges Hotel in Brighton which was owned by actress and comedienne, Dora Bryan and her husband, the former professional footballer, Bill Lawton. It was also used in Carry On At Your Convenience. Many years later, when it had been split up into apartments, I lived in one of them, on the ground floor. When I watch Carry On Girls it brings back memories of living there with Dora and Bill as neighbours (they retained an apartment when the hotel was sold up and converted).
Ah… some of the exterior shots show Clarges Hotel in Brighton, an old hang out spot for me back in the 80s when I lived and thrived in Brighton (aka ‘Peckham sur Mer’) and it was then a cool place to be young and fancy free in. The place was owned by that great actress and national treasure Dora Bryan who herself had appeared in the first Carry On (Carry On Sargent I believe?) and Sir Laurence Olivier had lived just up the road till about 1979, before retiring to Steyning or there abouts, so unfortunately I never encountered him in any of Kemp Towns fine watering holes… anyway thank you! Pip pip…
Who'd win in a fight, June Whitfield's Augusta Prodworthy or Hattie Jacques' Matron in Nurse. June really has the bite of the bitter and sour women that Hattie used to play. It's a shame that Hattie couldn't have the cameo of the matron in the film.
Ah that's better, your usual, informative narrative. 👍 I never knew June Whitfield dubbed Valerie Leon's character. I'm pretty certain Margaret Thatcher modelled her image and voice on Augusta Prodworthy?! 😅😁
@@TerencePetersenAjbro No Terence one of the best. These days it's considered crude and politically incorrect, but the subtext of this film is the obsession with beauty, sex and the exploitive industry that arises from these human obsessions. It's juxtaposed perfectly with the ironic feminist misandry and puritanism. I'm a 70s kid, so I get the humour of the decade, irony and irreverence personified. 😄😏
@Brian17-l4i 60s kid here. I think the 70s was the golden age of British comedy. There were also very funny films produced in Scandinavia and Germany, but these often contained more nudity and are less widely known.
I had always wondered who was the voice of the Dub! Thank you!
*June Whitfield was always a gem in anything she did. Her role as **_Eth Glum_** was absolutely iconic...*
When I watched it as a teenager, I really liked this Carry On film (and still do).

And Dora Bryan was in Carry On Sergeant.

Catherine! Your voice is heavenly.
Could have been called "Bless This Confessions Of A Carry On" given the cast!

There’s definitely a similarity 😂
Probably one of the weakest films in the bunch.

@TerencePetersenAjbro Oh I see the Scandinavian in your last name now, silly me! 🤦🏼♂️
@@Brian17-l4i Originally from Birmingham. I changed my name to integrate.
@TerencePetersenAjbro Are you for real?!🤥
Its a terrible film, almost as bad as Emanuel. This is really about the women, more so than any of the others.
Definitely not one of the best in the series.
The name 'Carry On Girls' is a clue! But I agree it is one of the poorer films in the series.
This one was awful
@@Heartofaloin How is it awful?!
