Thank you Catherine, along with Screaming this is my Favourite carry on Film, with that classic Dinner scene at the end, Brilliant. 😌
Don’t forget Larry
It’s basically a “Carry On” film. Considering the change in tone, plus at least seven regular CO actors in the cast.
Isn't that the teacher from Mind Your Language? Loved that show!
It is!
I've never seen this movie before. Is that foggy from last of summer wine!? Oh my goodness!
Yes, he’s in it 😊
It is!
Absolutely and wholeheartedly agree!!
There was actually a giant ape on King Kong lives that was a female. But she lost her hubby to gunfire. But produced a little one before it was killed.
Always liked the ... ' Please shut the gate ' .. 😂 at the pass .
It made money, and the viewers LIKED it. Something that today's woke films can't say.
This was the staple of new wave British sex comedies of the 70's. The ''Confessions of a ...''. were quite a big draw at that time. I was 11 years old when this came out, but I was getting into see X cert films a few years before leaving school. But those were kung fu films that were quite big at the time. But I remember some of the sex comedies of the day. The occasional one that would be part of the double bill (Two films shown back to back which was the norm then). I loved my cinema days back then.

I have heard of it, but them I am old. Haven't seen the film but I read the book.
When you look into her personal life, like a lot of Carry On cast, she felt she was overlooked for her acting skills. There was a documentary I watched on her along with Joan Simms and it was so very sad how life affected these great people who made us all laugh. I love the Carry On films and they are what I go to when I'm having a difficult time to cheer me up.
Brilliant show. So are the spinoffs. I’ve watched them all on DVD over the years.
She's kinda like the strict but loving mother of the group. I love that scene where she chases a person who she thinks is harassing the women in the building.
That was great Catherine. This short but informative precis of Hattie Jacques career and private life. Why not do something similar about Joan Sims? Personally, I always thought she a very underrated actress and like Hattie had a perfect sense of comic timing, but had a sad personal life. 📽️🤗
THE BEST of the Carry On series by far.
“Sir Roger Daily”……priceless
It works so well because it isn't a comedy. The comedic moments come almost entirely from the delivery by some amazing comedic actors. Remake Carry on Screaming with the same script but using serious actors and you'd have a straightforward horror film.
I used to watch this on dvd with my Cousin, I keep thinking that George and Mildred came before it :) I've only seen a snippet of Robin's Nest but it must be good as it's a personal favourite of Alan Partridge. So here's a little list of some shows I hope you'll cover. Up the Elephant and Round the castle starring Jim Davidson which spun off into Home James which had George Sewell who himself was in The Detectives Jasper Carrott and Robert Powell. Then there's Whatever happened to the likely lads with Rodney Bewes and James Bolam who then went on to be in Andy Capp. Tripper's Day, followed by Slinger's Day. Of course I'm mad for you to cover Some mother's Do 'Ave em series 2 I'm especially looking forward to you mentioning how Frank ended up wearing Betty' s nightie in The RAF reunion which is the same one she wore in Have a break take a husband. Blackadder top is another. It's so wonderful you've such an appreciation for comedy. That's why you look so good, drinking tea and loving humour keeps you young. I really hope you have a fantastic New year. Thank Catherine. Oh please at least consider Carry on Columbus :) I accept it's frowned upon but I love it. X
Thanks so much, hope you have a fantastic new year too 😊
Oh coincidentally Up the Elephant Round the castle also starred Brian Capron who just made a cameo in corrie :) also forgot to suggest Clockwise John Cleese film.
Absolutely brilliant show and the movie man about the house is even better
Fun fact: Penelope Keith and Judy Cornwall went to school together!
Watching it now 😂
Carry on Dick is on after it 😊
ITV3 used to have wall to wall "Carry On"s at Christmas, which seems to have stopped. Just as well, when I realised they have all been heavily edited in order to keep modern audiences happy. I was given "Abroad" on dvd for Christmas last year and amazed at how much was missing from the tv version. Must be my age but, there was nothing that I would call offensive, but. there we go...
Never heard of it, well seeing as I knew who was in it, and more or less what it was about, but handy to see again and remind me, and having seen it on the earliest days of Ch 5 (in the UK), no can't say I had never heard of it, just got me wondering how I could get a copy of it as my local HMV has moved out of the area 😢
Fakir - Off! Apparently took many takes to get an intonation the censors would accept. The last line of the film is brilliant, and the delivery is classic Williams.
I remember every Christmas watching a Carry On film or 2. Even on most Sundays. Never disappointed until tv started censoring stuff to a point that a 1hr 30 minute movie was still an hour half long but because of all the adverts.
Oh another film from 1970 is the adaptation of Agatha Christie's Endless Night. Check it out, it epitomises the 70s, but it's a twisted thriller. 😮
I've seen Every Home Should Have One, TBH I thought it was mediocre and overstated, but it had some good comedic moments. Marty Feldman was very much a humourist of his time. 😊😮
I've heard of some of these, but not seen any. A point I'm going to rectify beginning with the Rise and Rise...It's absolutely chocked full of British talent including Valerie Leon who seems to turn up in a lot of these movies around the time.
I wouldn't pay too much attention to what the Monthly Film Bulletin had to say about this type of film, they were consistently negative about all of em!!
Literally the worst film EVER made. An utter embarrassment to all involved. A cringe-inducing example of how not to make a movie. Truly, truly crap. I love it.
The writer, Hazel Adair wrote another British sex comedy, Can You Keep It Up For A Week starring Boba Fett himself, Jeremy Bullock. But she's was better know for co-creating wobbly walled tv soap Crossroads. Keep It Up... lacks the "Oh looks there's what his name" of some of the other similar comedies at the time, but this one did have the notable editions of the stunning Françoise Pascal who was the best thing about the atrocious Mind Your Language, Carmen Silvera from 'Allo 'Allo and Mary Millington before she broke big. What it does have going for it is the production vales, it looks like it had more than £15 spent on it.
This, along with carry on behind & carry on abroad are our personal fave's. Watch them every New Years Eve while we wait to bring in the New Year & they are also very useful in showing us how our roads, paths, street lights, vehicles, garb, humour and cost of living were back then. Typically back in the mid to late seventies throughout the Christmas period "Carry On" films were a staple event every year with some usually being on BBC One & ITV News Years Eve, so while most Mam's & Dad's from the street were round the boozer for a jolly night out our baby sitter would let us stay up late to watch them, fantastic stuff, especially when there was a knock at the door not long after 12 bells and somebody would cry out happy new year, bottle of stir, please can I put my first foot in & most of the street piled into your house, honestly the excitement on the night when we were young haha 😁 Those were the days, thank the heavens for Carry On.
Saw this young and actually thought 'Tiffin' was the actual word and description for........ 😂
@@Thetoon25 Well back in the 60s/70s, a bit of Tiffin was slang for sex! Do you remember Cadbury's chocolate Tiffin? It was a really nice chocolate treat, back in the 70s. I haven't seen it in years, so I think they discontinued it. Oh what I wouldn't do for a bit of Tiffin, right now, Cadbury's of course! Ooh stop messing about! 🤣🤯
@@Brian17-l4i haha class. So in a way I was right!
@@Thetoon25 You hit the nail on the head!
This is classic Carry On at their finest. Khyber and Convenience were their best films IMO. Khyber parodies British imperialism, Convenience parodies British industrial relations/work ethic of that time. Khyber maybe viewed as bigoted by using racial stereotypes, but it emphasises not just imperialism, but a patronising British foreign relations policy, which is still relevant today. My favourite scene is when they're bored with the entertainment by the fakir, with the instruction "Fakir off"!😮😝
Prob have to include Cleo as the best of the Carry on's
@Thetoon25 True Cleo is another Carry On classic, but a bit drawn out. IMO Hawtrey as the sage and Sims as Caesar's wife make that film.
Also worth noting was the sound track was provided by the sixties group "The Kinks", with some really good songs in it.😁
I'm sorry to say this, but I watched this on TH-cam and I had to switch it off, it was SO bad. Now, I know a lot of people will take this a reason to watch, but believe me, it's not. It's really, really, not. I'm not a cinema snob, in fact, I'm a great fan of a lot of British B movies 'Quota Quickies' as they were know back in the day, but this was so awful, I just couldn't take it. And I had a flat mate who was a Showa era, Godzilla fan and I sat throught all of them!
Christ, this looks horrific!
I'm glad I missed this.😢
did the singing nun inspire the writers of the later "Airplane" movie 😅
Ah, the Seventies, when major(ish) studios would finance films and release them to the general public as if they'd been drinking all night and decided that as mates a buying a pub may be a bad idea, but fuck it lets finance a film. The decade is strewn with weird and wonderful movies waiting to be discovered. If you can, check out Peking Man. Another Kong rip off.
This, and other British sex comedies, used to be on Men & Motors on constant rotation. They are all awful from what I can recall. The one value they have is as a Who's Who of well known British actors who would become well known for their roles in tv soaps and comedies. The only one that I ever had any inkling for was Stand Up Virgin Soldiers - though I'm not sure a repeat viewing would strengthen that feeling - though it did feature the mum of the Bisto advert and Mrs Billy Connelly before she starred in Not the Nine O'Clock News.
What on earth!! 😂😂😂 This is amazing. Had no idea at all, this existed. This is nuts 🤪
Percy’s Progress?
Merry Christmas Catherine - great channel, love it!
Thanks so much. Merry Christmas to you too 🎄
It's weird that the sequel Percy's Progress (1974) was released on Blu ray but not this. I've seen Percy's Progress ( It had Vincent Price In it) but I've never seen this.
Fielding Was a very good friend of my late aunt Jean who was also an actress mostly better known for her roles in crossroads , Fennela Used to visit my auntie Jean at her home in Viceroy Close Birmingham I would often stay for weekends. She was a very charming witty woman very much like her persona in the films. She could really turn it on. I only wish looking back. I had taken more notice and paid more retention to the stories they used to tell and asked a great deal more questions about both of their lives.
I've not seen the Confessions series yet, but I will do as it looks fun.Merry Christmas Catherine and a happy productive 2025 with new videos. Keep it up missus, ooh don't stop messing about! 😮😅
Merry Christmas to you too 😊🎄
Up there with the best "carry on's" which like Cleo is a tremendous spoof/parody, but never really gets the critical praise it should. So many good scenes from Dan , Dan the lavatory man whose business is always looking up, to the blackboard of clues, such great fun There are so many little nods to hammer films throughout, but my favourite nods are to Steptoe and Son using the simplicity of its theme song.
A very Happy Christmas to you Catherine. Absolutely loving your channel and it's my favourite newly found one this year.
Thanks so much, happy Christmas to you too🎄
