I'm 33 yrs old, bad at action scenes, digital coloring and anatomy. But when I see Butch's art, I sure do feel more hopeful regarding the evolution of my humble art. I'm like "at least mine doesn't look this bad".

Feel bad for the artist who rarely get noticed online and by the public. They spend so much time on their work and only sell it for a fair 20 bills. This dude literally google searches stuff on his phone and then sloppily copies it on a piece of paper and sells it for 200 dollars...done with life..

@Chip Hub Animations and Art My art barely gets noticed on DeviantART, Instagram, Twitter, or TH-cam. Feels like no matter how hard i work on each picture, i only get maybe 3 likes on Twitter, 30 likes and if im lucky, 1 follow on Instagram, and DeviantART, i get at least one or two favs a month. Probably because, i post on toxic platforms that are biased and only pays attention to people who brings them the most cash. And i don't even comission..I have a SHOP i use to sell stickers and prints on Redbubble that hardly gets and visits.

@Chip Hub Animations and Art I need to vent this out but, i high-key find it unfair and gross that corporate hacks like TH-cam, Instagram, DeviantART and Twitter are so one-sided and only shows favoritism to people who either post nothing but selfies, drama, and negativity, or people who just throw money into their almost dried up wells. It's literally just oppressing newer creators and artist because, they make it feel like your content/ artwork is bad and that no one will follow you because, you just make bad art/content or that you need to spend spend spend to get to the top. It's all about money and numbers. And it even makes me more upset is that you got jerk-offs like butch who either copy, trace or repost artwork without credit; getting more attention. its frustrating...
I heard Butch specialized in storyboarding and i can see that. He has decent composition and posing and draws really fast. I don't understand why on earth he rushes art this much though. His shading is muddy because he just uses a darker hue of the same color. When you are shading a yellow object you don't use a darker yellow because it looks muddy. You use a yellow mixed with orange or red and you can see he doesen't do that. His line weight is soo weird, i don't understand it. I used to watch his channel and he graduated from calarts, i saw his realistic art and it was solid. I don't understand why he feels the need to trace and rush his art to an insane degree. His colors are awful. He is so egotistical it'd be funny if he wasn't such an awful person.
Yeah I'd definitely say that the way he draws isn't suited for animation or even comic books. The weird way he draws stuff just screams "STORYBOARD" but he doesn't seem to realize that. I can assure you that if he made a comic or animation in his "style" people would only view it for laughs.
When i shade yellow objects, i use a peach/orange color and use the shade/multiply layer filter. I even use pink sometimes. I use to use a darker yellow to shade yellow objects but, they always came out rusty and dull. This is just the method i use to shade. Not sure if it's the proper way.
It's interesting to hear how Complimentary Colours can and cannot work. Digital RGB colours don't exactly work side to side, like how Bright Green and Magenta look so garish.
Tho there is something charming about seeing Deep Blue against Orange.

I think this is more evident that butch goes on auto pilot with these commissions.
Like he probably saw the image, saw the rocket launcher, and plopped him into the one of the 3 "gun poses" he ALWAYS does. Most artists have "go tos" that they can draw without reference or significant time. I think for all the most part butch does not leave his "go tos" and avoids references all together.
Remmy was a rich kid who didn't get attention from his parents, resulting in him getting Jaundissimo as a fairy godparent. He was jealous that Timmy had two fairies and parents who showed their son at least some attention, which pushes him to try and get Timmy to lose Cosmo and Wanda.
Yeah Remmy was like one of the best antagonists. he had a good reason for wanting to hurt Timmy and said reason is super relatable.

As a Artist who draw for 7-8 years and while I don't go to art school or learn the basics since I want to do my own thing, but I can say that I can shade, draw, and put more effort in my art better than Butch and am only 18. XD
Also Butch shading & coloring imo is really bad it looks like he's coloring with a dirty copic markers and the anatomy speaks for it self.
Also I personally don't see what's wrong with making money off of fanart unless the creator themselves said not to.
You can learn the very basics of art on the internet, school is for more advanced learning/training for a particular job, and it can help you getting to know people in the industry since the teachers are also professionals.
But if you don't want to bother with college debt, you can still find information about what you want on the internet, and I'd highly suggest to at least learn the very basics like perspective, anatomy, and color theory, you can still do your thing of course, and having that knowledge will only help you flesh out your style even more, cause style is essentially one's creative depiction/interpretation of reality, and the more you know about how things should be/look like, the more creative you can get when distorting reality without sacrificing the quality of the drawing, basically you have to learn the rules to break them properly.

Regarding the Remy and Luffy drawing, Butch paired them together because he said that Luffy looked like he didn't have much money.

@@lunabearsong2043 Luffy does actually light his fist on fire (Red hawk), but yeah, it's weird to not emphasize the rubber power first.
His shading is litterly just him using the color but darker and it makes the drawing look very muddy and dull, the yellow or white highlights he puts on the side of everything takes away any dimension the art and contrasts the already crappy shading and it looks so flat and hard to look at.
You NEVER shade with the same colour but darker...you always moved it a bit of a colour wheel, a bit of purple, on red...it infuriates me...a new artist, heck even standalone artist doing this i wouldnt be this mad...but so many pinterest art tips said not to shade like this...

What bothers me about the Jotaro/VonStrangle picture is they are both the ultra-beefy, stone-faced, “straight-man” trope...and the picture doesn’t show that. Have them maybe sizing each other up or Jotaro doing his signature point pose at VonStrangle while he’s pointing his wand at Jotaro or something...

Oh my god, that JoJo's piece hurts me on a fundamental level. Not because it looks like it was drawn by a toddler practicing their finger painting on a track pad, no.
It's the background. Putting a circle behind the focal point of your image is the easiest way to draw the viewer's eyes where you want them- I do that in so much of my own art (see: my pfp). It is the simplest, most basic concept... and yet somehow, this man, this _industry professional,_ *can't even get that right!!* That circle is so janky, so fuzzy, that my eyes are literally slipping away from the center of the image when I look at it. The knowledge that this man has millions of eyes on his work, that he rakes in money hand over fist with this _garbage_ when better artists can't even get double digit views on their work makes me want to vomit.

The neon colour he used hurt my eyes. When i first do digital, thats when i first cared for colours, but even then i was like "okay all neon stuff is bad" and stopped

I think the issue you guys are noticing with the way he shades yellow is that he's cheating everything with just general darker tones by mixing and black rather than using any kind of color variation in his shading. He isn't using oranges to shade his yellows to help keep their vibrance, instead he muddies them with blacks and they kind of end up looking like puke.

Also as a major fnaf nerd it bugs me with the varieties of the characters he used, he has classic freddy, toy Bonnie, and a mix of classic Chica and toy Chica. It feels like he searched fnaf and used the first few images he found. (And I wouldn’t even give him that much credit)
I have a friend who works in the animation industry. Butch Hartman’s name is considered a curse in the workplace.
The friend in question works for Dreamworks. That is all I can say.

I can't get over how "muddy" the coloring is. My art when I was like 13 were better than that and they were crappy in quality.
it’s like he’s adding black to all of his shading colors. he has these really really saturated base colors and then these really really desaturated shading colors, which just muddies up the piece
I think the saddest part is it doesn’t seem like he likes to do art. It’s so lazy and rushed. It doesn’t seem like he enjoys drawing enough to care about the quality. I grew up watching his shows and it’s disappointing to see him not care at all about the quality of his work.😕
Okay I'm still learning about light and shading. Can somebody please explain to me why Crocker has cast Shadows on him when the lightsource he's standing in is coming from the top and surrounding his whole body
I think it’s a mistake. There would be some shading in the clothing and under limbs but for his face and body I would say no. I’m not the best at lighting so this is just my opinion.
The light source is coming from above, so he should have the shadows underneath parts of his body in the opposite direction of the light. The whole lighting of the Crocker piece is kind of a mess
Like Greg mentioned, the light source is coming from the top, so you'd focus on shading the underside of his body and clothes (with more shading the further down the body you go since its further away from the source). For the highlights, you can either put them where the material (such as hair) is the most reflective or where the lighting is the harshest (which generally varies from piece to piece, some lightsources don't require harsh highlights). Butch probably just added the shading first and then put in the lightsource later.
I always put alot of effort into my art, and butch gaining all the "praise" just hurts me. Like bruh I've only been drawing for 9 years and he's been what, DRAWING BEFORE I WAS EVEN BORN??? i mean his traditional art is at least a bit better than his digital ones bc in traditional medium, you cant use all these horrendously saturated and neon colours together. has this man ever heard of color theory? theres like, no thought put into the digital colouring, and if you would put these images into black and white to only see the values, all the parts of the drawing would look the same bc he just doesnt utilize values at ALL. no matter your style, your medium, whatever - actual professional artists ALWAYS think about these things, but he doesnt.

You really touched on something important when you mentioned that Butch looks like he's trying to draw in a style that isn't his; the character design work for Danny Phantom and Fairly Odd Parents was done by Stephen Silver, the guy who also did the character design for Kim Possible. Tuff Puppy has a similar art style - I don't remember who did the character design on that show, but it wasn't Butch. So, all of those shows that you think are the "Butch Hartman" style are actually not his style.
The only show where I think Butch might have done the character design was Bunsen is a Beast, because I can't find a character design credit for it. So, I assume it wast Butch. Other than that, if he did do some concept art for his other shows, Silver or someone else probably did the final designs and gave the final OK.
This is probably already said in the comments somewhere but Butch's "art style" is actually Stephen Silvers art style. Butch has been passing off his work as his own. Which explains why his drawings don't match up with the commissions he's done/doing

Probably because you possess a more of an innate gift that he lacks. Sure he can draw a tad but he plateued years and years ago. Therefore he could really never improve. This is his best. That’s why you are better than he is at such an early age.

In the fnaf piece, the characters aren't even all from the same game in the series... Sure, a 'regular' looking freddy IS in fnaf 2, which the other two are from, but it doesn't make much sense to mix and match them like that for something like this.
Yeah it totally looks like he got the Toy versions from FNAF 2 mixed up with the FNAF 1 version's.

Just found this video. As a person that was heavily influenced by the art styles in the Hartman shows, specifically Danny Phantom, this is just sad. Idk. I feel I could've even done a better job with these. Everything seems wrong. The line art, the shading, the highlights and the price one pays for these.
I literally started drawing by trying to redraw stuff from Danny Phantom when I was like 8. I'm now in my late 20s and I think I can actually draw better than him. Nice analysis guys :3
As a teen artist trying to get noticed, what would recommend as a good way to be seen and given tips and advice
While I don't have any step-by-step way to get noticed I do have some advice from some of my professors who've been in the business before I was born.
First off, find something you are passionate about or are skilled in and hone that. Aim to be the best at that particular thing and work at that until you have mastered that. Companies and hiring managers while looking at your work or your portfolio are searching for that little thing that sets you apart from the rest. They are not looking at how well you can copy someone else's style, they are looking at you and what unique skills you bring to the table.
There is this idea of "building your brand or identity" in art. You have this certain style of how you draw, paint, do ceramics, etc, that signifies your work as yours. I know finding your own style is a lot of work but someday if you work at it, someone is going to look at one of your pieces and be able to go "Oh that's Xmas Wolf's work".
For things like getting noticed, I do not have that much. A lot of the time it's just pure luck there's no way around that than just working on your art and doing it for you and not for the follow count. No matter what anyone says, just because you do not have a certain follower count, does not mean your art is bad.

Good question! Hmm.. if it's exposure you're after doing free work isn't a bad option, just remember never do it for people who expect it. Do it strategically. For example, maybe join a youtubers discord or someone with public notoriety, with an audience basically (doesn't have to be a big one) and do some art for them with the condition they'll give you a shoutout. I know people who did that successfully, so l think it's a useful logic. Also, join a community of other artists and network! Always a good idea, people tend to help each other out when they're in the same situation. Hope that was helpful and good luck :)

Not to brag, but I genuinely think I can draw better than Butch Hartmann at 16, and I've only had public school art classes, and a few out of school with various teachers

the luffy and remy drawing doesn't even fit the theme, if the theme is suppose to be money love characters, why wasn't nami drawn? you know to contrast both characters love for money, which sounds like a better pair than luffy

Great video and really enjoyed it. One complaint I do have is the jotaro section. The outfit jotaro is wearing is specifically his part 6 outfit which could explain why he's so slim as araki style has changed over the years. I think the critic would've worked better if he was in his part 3 design as that design would call for a more muscular desgin like jorgen (I think that's the muscular fairy name)

The amount of times I kept cringing at Butch's colour palette choices and overall drawings is immeasurable 😭 Like, the background colours absolutely don't go well with the drawings because theyre so muddy and clashes with the characters, and the characters arent any better either because they look atrocious

With the pandemic these kind of more podcast like episodes are much easier to produce, so it’s more than likely! We do have a few podcast episodes together on the channel and Ash and I did make a video on tier lists recently in a similar style, so it’s very probable!
His lineart isn't even closed, and the shading is atrocious. It's overall so weak and reeks of being traced. Even for that background and the additional figures, I'd give 10 dollars at _most._ It's truly pathetic.
