Love the show and the books, but I feel like it would be more popular if it was dubbed. People don’t like reading subtitles, I’ve noticed

What an excellent review! I adore the books and the show. I feel like Elena has always been an escapist. Living in such a harsh environment will do that. What I love best about this show is how they don’t hide any of the complexities. It’s so well done. Thanks again 🩷🩷🩷

Amazing breakdown of the episode! Yeah, so many thoughts. Overall the casting choices were great although I think they aged Nino up a bit. Or maybe its all the smoking catching up to him.

Thank you for this wonderful synopsis! 💙 I feel sorry for Lenu’s daughters. I understand not wanting to be with Pietro, but leaving those girls for two years was disgraceful. Nino is trash. He does not respect women at all.

I've always related to & empathized with Lila more than Elena. Elena's self righteous, insecurity and need for validation & weird ass competition with Lila was always a turnoff for me; needing others to fail so she can feel like she's winning or resenting Lila getting any attention, is so hatery. Nino is his father's son & even though his dad was predatory, Elena sleeping with him, forever tainted how I see her & she's made several decisions & exhibited behaviors since that justify my side eye. Lila is raw, brutally honest, rough around the edges & she owns it, which I appreciate because she is firmly planted in reality & not fairytale delusions. Elena projects like she believes she's above where she came from & the people from her hood (Lila & family included) are beneath her, which I think is what motivated her to marry Pietro & I loved seeing her getting dragged for filth by him and her mother in this episode.

Thank you for this comment. I was the opposite . I used to empathize with Elena but now I’m on team Lila.
Lila for better or worse is grounded in reality . She has made the best out of a tough situation and in so many ways is far more successful than Elena.
One point Elena brought up was how the name Greco was becoming famous . Her measure of success is her notoriety and now she’s become infamous

Your channel was the first thing that came into my mind when I finished watching the season premiere - made my night to see that you had already posted a review.
Every time we see or hear Nino it gives me horrible agita. Elena might be able to forget what he did to Lila but I sure the hell haven't nor have I forgotten the type of man Nino's father was, too - both are nothing more than selfish pigs in shoes.
Idk if anyone else saw the S4 trailer but in it Elena tells Nino that she's pregnant then before it ends we see both Elena + Lila, walking arm in arm, with pregnant bellies🤰🏻🤰🏻.
They both should have listened to Carmen + 🔪 his 🐓 off.
I will be waiting on pins + needles for next, Monday's episode in addition to your review 🥂

The trailer gave away so much but for what I can tell Elena is trying to tie him down but it will never be possible .
I loved the last scene with Carmen and Lila . As soon as she saw Lila walk in she knew she was about to hear information she did not want to hear

    Hi Hamza,
So excited for the return of the show- at first I wondered if the new cast for the main characters was going to work, but agree that they became them seamlessly. That scene where Nino tells Eleana how he threw away her article because he was jealous of her talent and this proves to her his love for her, made it clear she was blinded by her obsession with him. Really great review 💗

      Hi Riva 💕
I haven’t been this excited since succession. I thought the scene with Nino confessing summarized him perfectly. Jealous and superficial.
As you said she is totally obsessed with him . Shes like a drug addict with him . Watching them run around naked was ridiculous 😂 I was like this is so childish

Watched it and loved it! The only character i hardly recognized was Franko😅 even if we know that he is blind. I love how this series depicts the tension in the air, I am talking about dinner with Sylvia and her son with Nino Awkward) Boy looks so much like him. Sylvia 's reaction when Nino called) Loved every characters micro-reactions. Alba is excellent. Loved the final scene. We never have Lila's pov, but in the first season I felt like I inderstood her. In the 2nd and the 3rd she became more like an image (except some episodes like with her diaries,or about factory) You cant quess what she is thinking . But here I already feel like I can get the same feel of the 1st season. In the scene it looked for me like Lila was remembering her own mistake with Nino and how it weakened her *when she saw how heartbroken Lenu was. Her look was saying:girl, i know how it hurts

I haven't read the last book yet, so unlike you, I'm not privy to Elena's full thoughts. Two thoughts I did have about her: she has her head in the sand about her situation and whenever I talked back to the TV (as I'm wont to do when I'm engrossed in a show), it was always with regard to her daughters. As I've read Anna Karenina since high school, the subjects of infidelity/adultery/child abandonment by a mother are not new. Elena does not pick up on clues that have been literally in her face from when she was a child, truths that are told to her by people she grew up with and supposedly trusts, to pursue this apparent freedom in her life. Yet she uses her literal life to sell her books as a basis for some form of truth of herself; that woman in the audience who dared to challenge her, I thought, you go lady, ask the questions, let's see if she can stand up to the mirror, and Elena just dodged, no surprise. She was getting it from all sides: her mother, Pietro, Pietro's family, her children, the people back in Naples. How Elena will choose to validate her choices, especially as we know of certain events due to the spoiler, will be interesting. I hope it doesn't take the whole season to resolve as, quite frankly, Nino is too boring to deal with. My interest has always been with Lila/Lenu, and if we're back in Naples where it's even more volatile than ever, and the disparity between their situation is even greater than before, the setup will give us so much more storylines to get engaged with - looking forward to this final extended season!

Excellent observation about Elena book Tour! One fan noted how she has learned the language of men to succeed and I think that describes her perfectly .
Her career is her life which has been communicated through the male gaze which is why despite her education she is no more enlightened then when she left the neighbourhood.
If the season follows the book the series will do exactly as you wish go back to Naples and focus on Lila and Elena.

your observations and insights are always so great! Loved this breakdown! it was so hard to empathize with Elena in this episode but now that she knows the truth and cant ignore it, she'll finally realize that she will never be the exception, Nino has always been a piece of shit towards every woman hes been with and she's no different.

It took a little time to get used to the new actors. The actor playing Nino looks so much like the man who played his father in previous episodes. That freaked me out a bit. And Lenu’s husband is very handsome in this season, makes you wonder why she would ever leave him.

The father in law blasting Elena and her name, is typical for a family involvement drama in an Italian family during this time period. The feminist movement is underway in Italy. Historically, keep this in mind. Nino is his father. To a T.

The premiere was a remarkable yet sorrowful watch. I must admit that I strongly dislike Nino, even in his teenage years. Lenù's sacrifices for him were significant, and she probably sensed his ongoing commitment, but she indirectly raised his future goals by mentioning her move to Nepal with her children. 😂Although Lenù's father-in-law's rebuke was painful, it was necessary, as Lenù's behavior was disappointing.

Fine review, on an excellent series. However, I'm happy this will be the last season because, by the end of season 3, I could not help but find the character of Elena Greco a deplorable human being, and just as despicable as the character of Nino Sarratore. I can't think of the last time I found the main protaginist/s of a series or movie so distasteful.
