My Brilliant Friend Season 4 Episode 3 Review | Recap
Just watched this movie last night for the first time it was very good some parts were felt a little too long but it was a decent watch reminded me of the movie uncut gems.
Yes I felt the second half dragged but overall it was a solid film
Hi! really interesting take. I think it was so hyped for me that I was disappointed. Perhaps if it wasn't I'd have a different view. I appreciate the reality of the movie but also found the second half to be exhausting.
Thank you Lisa. The second half was definitely a noticeable dip from the first it became about finding him instead of unpacking this disaster of a relationship
I agree with everything you said. And i like how real the story and the characters felt. the movie didn't even try to imply that Anora and Vanya were in love, or that they had any sort of emotional connection. It was all shallow and materialistic. So We as an audience didn't even care that they didn't actually end up together. Because we didn't expect much from him. He is not portrayed as the bad guy but he is also not the most considerate and thoughtful. I'm just happy that she came out of it mostly unharmed, because as Igor said its a good thing that it ended and that she is not a part of their family.
Thank you! I thought Vanya parents exposed him. They mentioned how he was supposed to be studying but instead he was partying. Even tho they were defending him they know he didn’t deserve it I think his wealth had little to do with who he was as a person I think he’s just so entitled and eventually he will grow up to be cruel to other
@@alwayswatching2295 The way the parents treated Anora is really telling. Because they didn't even try to empathize with her or apologize for their child's behaviour because he is a child. I mean the way the dad started laughing in the plane, shows that all this is just entertainment for them. They don't care about her feelings or see her as someone who deserves an explanation or anything from them. And they don't even care about their son. Its all about status and money. It was never that serious for Vanya or his parents. But Anora had to quit her job and she was naive enough to believe in this fairytale.
Very well said. It’s all entertainment for them. It’s just another story they can laugh about later
maybe i'll give it a second watch because i didnt know what to think when i first watched it.
Yes I felt very underwhelmed the first time
this movie became sadder to me when I did my second watch.
Same , it’s more tragic
I really enjoyed this movie and found it funny & thought provoking & relatable
Hi Chelsea ! The first time I wasn’t sold but the second time I could really appreciate it
Omg this needs to be my next watch
You will either despise it or enjoy it
I really liked the movie. Terrific review!
Thank you 🙏🏾 its definitely a love it or hate it
Very well done. Thank you
Thank you 🙏🏾
Brilliant novels and great tv series. Thank you for your recaps and the forum to discuss and analyze "My Brilliant Friend ".
Lila is brilliant, but she is stunted. She only looks out for herself.
To me, Lila and Nino are the same kind of people. Both are takers.
I think that Lenù and Antonio finally coming together is a completion to what they both wanted as teenagers. It was ending that only belonged to them.
I found what the Dr. said about Lila and her delivery very interesting. Even though Lila really wanted this child, she couldn't connect to her. It's telling of Lila's relationships. Personal view, every child birth is different.
I agree, the best show I’ve ever watched.
This is such a powerful movie. Was lucky to have seen it in theatres, sobbed so much. By birth I have ties to Williams Lake First Nations, but was adopted before I was born. So it really hit home. The school was still operational when I was born but shuttered by the time I started going to school. I remember having First Nations children in our public schools. We even visited the reserves and I remember they spoke to how the schools had closed but still many struggled. I feel fortunate that our school visited and learned from their elders even for just a day or two.
INDIAN HORSE is another good film, it’s fictionalized but based on what happened. It’s written by the amazing Indigenous author Richard Wagamese.
Thank you for the recommendation!
His Steve! Thank you for this comment! It’s scary to think how these residential schools continue to devastate lives . The relationship between father and son was heartbreaking because it spoke to how so many communities were robbed of having a sense of community and family
I cried watching this
It’s heartbreaking. The scene between Juliann and his father was devastating
I saw this in October at the new York film festival I thought it was an interesting perspective I loved the book and yea it was respectfully done
At first I wasn’t sure but after a second watch I could appreciate what he was trying to do . The book is so devastating
I appreciate how thorough and caring you are in each analysis you provide

@ You are knowledgeable. Vn sister 🙏🏽😊
I'm Canadian and my parents immigrated to this country. When they first moved here, they were told to "watch out for the natives". I live in the Prairies so the racism against Indigenous people is quite intense here. There are people who actually think Indigenous people have a genetic flaw or are inferior. When people immigrate here, they are taught to fear and loathe Indigenous without learning the history. It's very sickening. Every Indigenous person alive in this country today has a link to the Residential School System and the 60s Scoop. This is recent history. Even more recent is that many Indigenous peoples live on land where there is no clean drinking water because their water sources are diverted to service cities. It's only now through documentaries and activists that people are starting to learn the truth and yet we still have people in this country complaining about how "woke" this information is or angry at Indigenous protests.
Thank you for this comment ! I didn’t mention it but you are right. The media portrays them as dangerous alcoholics. This weird wave in Canada about denying what happened at residential schools is alarming. Canadians have a hard time accepting the countries horrific record when it comes to colonization. It’s always like we are not as bad as the USA so it’s ok
@@alwayswatching2295 not just the media but there are also many people I know who have the same attitude. For example, those working in retail, who say that most of the shoplifting is done by Indigenous people. That might be their perception and there are all types of people who shoplift. At the same time, if you grew up in a system where you and your family never saw fairness and justice, that makes you less likely to know or want to treat others with justice and fairness. It's like growing up in a system that only took from you and your family. A system that takes your land, resources, identity, culture, etc. and that same system saying "Now, you better treat me with respect and fairness in return and follow my rules...". It's just irrational. People in this country don't seem to understand that the treatment of Indigenous peoples is the canary in the coal mine. If the government and systems put in place are ok with doing that to them, it's only a matter of time before they treat more and more people that same way. That's becoming more evident today with increasing homelessness and poverty. The general population are starting to struggle to get their basic needs met and are losing access to resources. Anyone who thinks they're immune to injustice just needs to look at how Indigenous peoples have been treated throughout history. If it can happen to them, it will eventually happen to most of us.
@coolbreeze5683 thank you for this comment. I used to work in retail and you are absolutely spot on. I remember my manager would get annoyed at their tax exemption. Indigenous customers were often reluctant to use this privilege because of the reaction they received from service workers. People in Canada are suffering and they don’t seem to appreciate how the oppression of one group opens the door for the oppression of everyone else. Right now prices are at an all time high and corruption is rampant and people are looking for anyone to blame. They often blame those least able to defend themselves and least responsible for their suffering
Interesting.
I rewatched the 4 seasons with my mom) and i can tell what i think season 4 failed to do. All three seasons the show cared about introduction of all characters. They all seemеd to be very important for the story to go forward. In the last season creators didnt care about neighborhood characters. Everyone has their ending point in the books. In this season they felt like souless pieces of backround. Rino's death felt like nothing. And we saw that boy growing and changing. The creators more cared about Nino than anyone else )
These background characters and relationships made this whole story feel even more real. You felt like they were your neighbors. And they only showed Lenu's paranoia about Nino still loving Lila, as for me Lenu's paranoia about Lila writing a book was more important. Because for Lenu her writing is more important than Nino, even if she doesn't realize it herself. So her paranoia about Lila possibly outdoing her in that case feels more vulnerable and important to show . Less soapy drama about who gets a man, and more about their true passions-literature. And yes, Lila's new discovered love for history of Neapole. She even asked Pietro for help in researching. Even when she was broken she found some peace in studying! Which I think is one of the most important characteristics of Lila, and they didn't show it. At least one scene would have been OK. And they didn't show Lilas operation when doctors removed her uterus(she had illness). After losing her perfect child she could never be mother again.
I cannot tell you how many times I've spoken to Canadians online who seem to think that Canada has no history of racism. The patriotic self-delusion is amazing. Thanks for this review.
Hi Carole! Patriotic self delusion is accurate . They have this sense of pride and believe for the most part their country stands for good
Great interview!

@@QueenOfTheHorn92I’ve been getting access to these really amazing documentaries and foreign films so I’m slowly finding my niche
Thank you for putting this on my radar abayo. As a Canadian I'm sad to say how little I was taught about residential schools throughout my education. The saddest part is this not just about the distant past.
Me tooooo. I grew up in Ottawa and we only found out in the mid 2000’s. Every time we hear about these schools it’s so much worse then we can imagine
@ its truly a sad sate of affairs here in Canada. The Truth and Reconciliation Committee was established in 2008 and since then we have only implemented 13 out of 94 calls to action. I thank you again for putting a spotlight on this documentary, since it seems it’s going to take people embracing Canada on the world stage before it will take steps towards reconciliation.
@QueenOfTheHorn92 thank you for watching! What’s worse is there is this new wave of Canadians trying to deny the atrocities that took place
Perfect ending…… kiss 😘
Thank you for the review. The documentary portrays some of our activists working towards that end and there are many others working on the ground despite the obstacles. Regardless of the obstacles and negative narratives, as pro-peace Cypriots, we will continue to side with dialogue, reason and compassion. We need to build a peaceful future for the generations to come and set a positive examples for all those areas hit by conflict.
Thank you for watching! 🤩

I was watching the 4 season one more time, and in this episode, Lila actually tells very clear to Elena what is going on between Alphonso and Michele, making quite clear that Michelle and Alphonso have an affair.
she was never 'in love' she was in stockholm syndrome! typical of being with someone who is an abuser like him. but finally she wakes up!🙌🙌the sad part is for her daughter and her having to stay in contact him, in an attempt for her daughter to have a 'father', if you are with a narcissist they use their victims for an energy source., and you need to get away from them for good, but at least she wakes up!
I have never cried so much than I did with this episode. Those two dolls were so symbolic of their friendship!
Perry watched a Perfect Murder and Get Out before “writing” this masterpiece.

me to! it was such a beautiful experience
I agree! that was so sad when Elena was all alone, but one thing that bothered me though-out this season is Elena does not visit her family, she didn't go check on how her mom and dad are doing after the earthquake, to see if they are ok, especially now that she lives back home and is so close by. Even though Elena did not enjoy where she grew up and the times, her parents really are endearing, and how they show their love in different ways, doing their best, her dad has always been so kind to her, despite the times they live in. I guess it is par for the course, being as obsessive as she is w Nino, but still..
i am from India mam i dont think lost ladies deserve this my fame overrated af
Nino is a narcissist, and Elena is completely brainwashed by him, I do not think she would have left her children otherwise. (Not to make excuses for her). I have been in one of these 'relationships' and the effects of that type of manipulation is portrayed in so many ways with the decisions she makes, her actions and her behaviour. (Just get away from him girl!😩) I agree with you that maybe Elena (and Nino) do not like themselves, have low self-esteem, as a reflection of how others judge where they come from. I feel like Elena is first groomed by Nino's father and she falls back into that pattern with Nino, bc she has always dreamed of him loving her, but he cannot love anyone, not even himself bc he grew with up the father (and the times, patriarchal society) he did. Thanks for the review!
hey, great review, thanks!
Thank you 🙏🏾
