    The actress who plays Lila is so believable and has really studied the younger Lila. The voice, the tone, the facial expressions. With Elena, it is more difficult to connect the two actresses.

      Agreed. There are a few scenes where the mature Lenu resembles Margherita, but it's mostly in mannerisms. There's no daylight between Gaia's Lila and Irene's Lila, just like there was no daylight between the child, Ludovica Nasti's Lila and Gaia. I also agree that she's channeling Gaia, just as Gaia channeled Ludovica. Lila's character, both characters- have evolved magnificently. It has been exquisite cinema in every facet of the production.

      I like the acting of the new actress of Elena, but she is different from young Elena. She seems more sensible, and young Elena seemed more disconnected.

    Even it was a bit on the nose, I liked the slow overly of the crack in the ceiling and Elena. It’s such a strong metaphor.

    For an accomplished woman, Elena is truly a puzzle. Elena Ferante is brutally honest in writing about her past with Nino! I wonder, as a mature woman if she regrets(?) her obsession with Nino? And, as writer about the right’s of women, she is truly delusional.

      This is an excellent point. I think hindsight is 20/20. The fact that she was with Nino for most of her life after Pietro is also very telling. She remains single after this

    As I said in one of the comments, Ferrante copied these panick moments which Lila described, from her mother. According to her, her mother could grab her chest and start saying that the world was losing its shape. She believed that this was due to her mother's difficult childhood/adolescence during the war. That these were echoes of that horror. Lila had this reaction to the stress in season 3 already, after quitting the factory. Lila remembers the teacher's words. She's still an authority figure for her, but that teacher told her all this out of spite, and it wasn't worth dwelling on it. Lila wears this shield out of self-confidence, but she has enough self-hatred, which is why she can take it out on others who don't deserve it. And in my opinion, it all started from the moment when her father took away her chance to get an education with Lenu. After that, Lila was afraid to start- she doesn't like to be catching up. And I think there is fear,. And I think there is a fear that getting her education, she will still not achieve the same success as Lenu. It's easier to console yourself that you could have had the same success if you had the chance, and maybe achieved even more. Than to have the courage to try. Lila knows that the area is terrible to live in. But she stays in it because she is afraid of the unknown beyond it. Here she knows everyone's weaknesses, and how to defend herself. It's scarier in the world outside her neighborhood. Lenu is the opposite. She doesn't have this fear of the unknown. And so it has been since childhood. if you remember which of them was afraid to go to the sea. Even Enzo. He got an education, and Lila chose to study in the shadows, helping him without making open steps. She has her own insecurities as every person, she just hides it better than anyone. I love moments when we have her perspective.

      I agree, the moment that Lila's father threw her out of the window because she wanted to test for entrance in middle school, set the stage for all the choices she made in her life.

    I actually felt like crying, first time I saw this, during Lila's monologue. I don't know why, but there was something about the way she described the frailty of everything, especially good things, that really hit a chord inside of me, especially when she remembered 1958 New Year's Eve, like she could already see the awful way her brother turned out being, and when she explained how unable she was to ever ease up.

    • @alwayswatching2295
      @alwayswatching2295  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It was a beautiful monologue, and it perfectly articulated what it’s like inside her head. She’s able to read into people or somehow see their dark side. She’s fought her darkness for so long . I think we all have these impulses to turn into something ugly . Some people just manage to fight it off better then others

    In the books, the mental stability of Lila is always in question. I remember reading the observation of Elena; Does Lila even know my children’s names? What a brutal culture, so sad.

  • @meequon1
    @meequon1 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I agree! that was so sad when Elena was all alone, but one thing that bothered me though-out this season is Elena does not visit her family, she didn't go check on how her mom and dad are doing after the earthquake, to see if they are ok, especially now that she lives back home and is so close by. Even though Elena did not enjoy where she grew up and the times, her parents really are endearing, and how they show their love in different ways, doing their best, her dad has always been so kind to her, despite the times they live in. I guess it is par for the course, being as obsessive as she is w Nino, but still..

    About Lila's business and influence in the neighborhood, I think she has updated the methods of the person she feared the most (she even says so in this episode): the Solara matriarch. That woman controlled the whole neighborhood through her account notebook, and Lila manages to do so by having every business accounting storaged in her computer company, and that's what makes her formidable.

    You put on a great analysis of each episode. I look forward to it each episode release!!
    As for Elena, Idk why she thinks Nino will leave his family (the bag) for her, I hope Elena figures this out sooner rather than later.
    I think that the toll of being a head honcho is heavily affecting Lila. Her mental state is fragile despite the confidence. Although she feels secure around Elena, she feels more in control.
    Looking forward to next week!

    FYI, IRL computers essentially reduced the number of man hours for calculating payrolls, interest, and accounting during 60s onwards. Depending on the size of the accounts between 30-70% reduction, big bucks. Lila was an abused kid but fierce. Lenu was her life line to better world.

    While I support parental non-interference in adult children's choices, this episode shed light on the motivations behind Lenù's mother's emotional breakdown following her divorce. The neighborhood, including Lila, lacks redeeming characteristics. Lenù's interactions with Lila are consistently frustrating. Her relationships, except with Pietro, are notably unbalanced. Pietro extends an olive branch, encouraging Lenù to reunite with him and their children, yet she remains resistant to change! 😞

    • @alwayswatching2295
      @alwayswatching2295  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed, she keeps turning to Pietro because she can. He’s the only stable person and having a child with Nino who is so unstable will be eye opening for. .
      I think as you said her interactions with people from the neighbourhood are frustrating . I think because she’s so focused on Nino it’s hard to even focus on anything outside of this deranged relationship

    • @onedagger5142
      @onedagger5142 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pietro wasn't a great husband. He didn't care about her work. He made her have children, she didn't plan it. He couldn't throw away Pasquale, so he slapped Elena instead. No, she doesn't need to reunite with him.

  • @notamanga4827
    @notamanga4827 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I will always be on Lelu's side as I read a book and feel attached to her. Also, she is rather harsh on her own wrong actions and choices.
    I wanted to share my thoughts about Nino's entanglement. Elena has been in love with Nino since childhood. Later, when Lila has a romance with him, she is devastated. She put him on a pedestal, but he chose her friend, to whom she always feels inferior. So when Nino finally gets to her life and helps her return to writing, she feels it can prove her worth. Also, if Pietro had been a better husband, this probably wouldn't happened. Not only did he push her to have children, but he also did everything to end her writing career. So when Nino came with his sleek support, she willingly fell in his arms.
    Elena always knows that Nino would choose Lila, so she waits for him to prove otherwise.
    In the third episode, she says that she betrayed her ideals. The friendship with Lila was a strange mix of support and rivalry, making her work harder to succeed.
    I also don't feel like Elena has ever wanted to have children. She begged Pietro to have contraceptive pills, but he was opposed to it. Her postpartum depression made her relationship with them challenging, and she feels a lot of remorse about her actions. I always feel like she was not the best mother, but compared to Pietro, she was doing most of the work, so it is unfair to see only her as an evil one.

    • @onedagger5142
      @onedagger5142 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Really, everyone forgets that Pietro wasn't a great husband. It doesn't justify cheating, but it explains Lenu's feelings. She doesn't need to come back to him. They don't match. She didn't want these children, her difficult relationship with motherhood is understandable.

    • @notamanga4827
      @notamanga4827 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@onedagger5142 I guess only cheating justifies cheating, but even then, it is a shortcut to avoid solving the problems. I have a lot of compassion for Lelu because she is so imperfect and so close to life.
