  • Let's cook dinner in a hotel room using a Dash Mini Rice Cooker and a Stanley Camping Pot. Dash Mini Rice Cooker - amzn.to/3hjtnJf
    Stanley Camping Pots - amzn.to/3pI7Cth
    These small appliances only use 200 watts and are great for cooking in small spaces. They are great for RV cooking, van cooking, car cooking, dorm cooking, hotel room cooking, office cooking, etc. They are small, portable, and light weight so they are easy to travel with. They are also excellent prepping gear. Since they only use 200 watts and cook very fast, they can be easily run off of a generator or solar power station.

    Great video!! You could cut a piece of wax paper to fit on top of your salad before closing and that would keep the food from getting on the bottom of the top container. :) That salad looked amazing!! Thanks so much for sharing.

    I usually do my food prep in the Bathroom on that counter after I have used a Clorox wipe on everything. Because it’s easier if anything spills. I also carry a roll of paper towels with me.

    This is interesting but if you brought all that food why not make the pasta ahead of time also? Pasta salad? Or use the microwave to reheat? This makes sense to me for long term travel I guess.

    • @CounterCooking
      @CounterCooking  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I didn’t do any cooking ahead of time. I don’t use microwaves. I am merely sharing my experience. I am not telling anyone else what to do. Everyone can do whatever they want to do. 👍

      @@CounterCooking Of course they can. I'm just curious. With the salad and veg I figured you had a cooler or something so I was curious why cook there. But I think it’s a neat idea for long term travel where you couldn’t make food ahead of time.

    I cook pasta in my Aroma 6 cup rice cooker, all the time, I start out with a tablespoon of oil (of your choice) then 1-2 cups of uncooked pasta, my seasonings are a few sprinkles of onion powder, garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of tomato bouillon powder, a few shakes of worstershire sauce, 1 1/2 cups of water, and a 1 tblspn of butter, turn on the unit and it only takes 20-25 minutes to cook, no need to strain the liquid as it steams away.
    You can do the same thing in the Dash Rice Cooker, but halve everything.

    For the zucchini, what I do is don’t chop up the zuch but keep it whole and zoodle them fresh so they cook up fast. Then I do half pasta and half zoodles. I can zoodle them directly into the pan.

    why didn't you just cook the pasta and veggies in the rice cooker insert instead of the Stanley pot?

    • @CounterCooking
      @CounterCooking  17 วันที่ผ่านมา

      because it is easier to maneuver a pot with a handle than the rice cooker insert which does not have a handle and requires potholders. also because I’d rather cook in stainless steel than a nonstick insert.

    I didn’t see that exact Stanley food carrier on Amazon but a regular Bento Box Kim’s of item would,work just fine. I don’t usually take any cooking items when I travel and stay in hotels by myself but I’m thinking I might just do this when I drive up north to PA next month (I’m in NC). My hotel,does a great free breakfast so I don’t take things for that meal but may just take a couple Dash items. I do always take a few “take home” containers as I never am able to finish any food I eat or bring from a restaurant/fast food place. Isn’t it great that companies like Dash are making such great items for home and travel!!!

    • @CounterCooking
      @CounterCooking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I always try to book hotels that offer a free breakfast buffet. I usually get to the breakfast buffet early and eat there, then bring a few things back to my room like a banana, bagel, tea bags, etc. that I then have for lunch later in the day. Sometimes I'll go back to the breakfast buffet shortly before they close and pick up a few more items to-go. It's very convenient and a money saver. Having a small appliance like a Dash with me, helps me to eat a healthier dinner than I would if I went out somewhere, it saves money, and it gives me more time to relax in my room. :)

      Look into Stanley camping pot. Comes with 2 plastic double insulated cups and fits perfectly above the Ozark Trail cup at Walmart, like a tower, lid fits both, use the inside to store condiments or in my case coffee. I use it for camping too.

    Once it boils a few mins, you can turn it off and let it sit covered, it will cook and be done in about half hour...cant do it with veggies but great on any macoroni . Start cooking before your hungry tho! 😂

      I learned about thermos cooking from a Ms. Magazine article decades ago. which is not where I normally get my cooking advice from. The author was describing a traditional technique used by African tribes, who, of course, did not traditionally have actual thermoses. They would dig a hole in the ground and place whatever they wanted to cook in it after bringing the food to a boiling temperature, and then seal it over with whatever insulating material they had on hand. The earth, of course, would retain the heat and the food would continue cooking. I used to cook soy beans in a coffees thermos when I went hiking.

    Yes to your comments about cooking the veggies by themselves and also to taking the pasta out of the cooking pan. I said the same to myself as I can be a bit messy when stirring!!!! Looks like it could be an expensive dinner at any restaurant!!!!! And I need to give lentil pasta a try - looks good!

    Last hotel, however, had a microwave - so I used *that.*

  • @dsquared1950
    @dsquared1950 หลายเดือนก่อน

    This is interesting but puzzling. Forty years ago I drove across the country, staying in budget motels. I brought an electric hot plate and one or two pots from home, along with one setting of flatware, a can opener and a knife, a bowl, mug and plate.
    I don’t see the point of the mini appliances if you already own a saucepan and a small frying pan. Most hotels I stay in now have some kind of coffee maker, which produces very hot water quickly, as does the tap… and lots of places have microwaves. A single induction burner is also a possibility.
    Maybe I’m missing something?

    • @CounterCooking
      @CounterCooking  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Some people never use microwaves. Some people don’t want to use water that was heated up in a plastic coffee maker. Some people don’t trust the cleanliness of hotel coffee makers. Pots, saucepans, and hot plates are all much larger and bulkier to carry.

    • @dsquared1950
      @dsquared1950 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CounterCooking I carried a very small stainless steel frying pan and a one quart saucepan. I think I’d trust them more than whatever coating is on these
      cheap electric appliances. No need to heat up water in plastic anything if you carry a stainless steel pan. It all fit in a small bag.
      Some people can use what they already own rather than purchase things. You’re obviously not backpacking and you are relying on electricity so why not show an alternative that doesn’t require cute toy appliances?
