+Bella I had to restrain myself from beating my friends ass. He was holding my bird in the air from it's tail and whacking at it. I gave him two firm punches in his arm and pushed his stupid ass to the ground and my bird flew back to his cage. He's more of a weak shit talker so he basically pissed his pants and squealed on the ground since my house has hard wood floors. He said "it bit him" and I was just like bruh.
+Bella Yeah, I found a few feathers around the area and I saw my bird scaring away at the corner of his cage but I reassured him and showered him with head scratches. The friend's an idiot. Never letting that idiot near my house. He acts like I'm over reacting but my bird is my best friend. My life. I would call him family. For him to handle him like that is absurd.
+Bella Yeah, he's gotten better. No physiological damage done, he's back being my boy. When it occurred, he flew to the highest place in the room, being the top of my curtains, but eventually came down with the almighty millet spray lure. That's when I reassured him. He's active, playful and up for learning tricks. I'm teaching him something as simple as the wave and he's catching on. Patience is key though :). My "friend" is like those people you spoke to in school/work but aren't your real friend. He said it bit him when he tried to make it do the step up command. I hate how people treat birds like toys. I needed to hand him something I burrowed but didn't expect to see my fucking bird dangling from his hand!
@@КристијанТаневски-ч6ц Some birds take longer than others, while others also never really can be tamed at all ! There's just more patience involved than you'd imagine. Keeping them in pairs also helps them be more confident.
so glad you showed how the bird MAY react when taming...because that is how my cockatiels are at the mo...just shows me that training them is possible....xx thank you x
OK, I just want to thank you for making me think of the "feeding in the palm of my hand" thing, I hadn't considered that ONE thing and my cockatiel responded positively to it immediately. I tried it like right after I had watched your video and he ate directly from my hand without any problems, and was willing to step onto my hand after three more goes like that, the same day x'D And I haven't even had him for a month x3
my bird will go iiinsssssaaaaaannnnneeeeeee but there is this part of the cage he really likes and stase there and lets me touch him there or in the side of the cage
try to get him to step up onto your finger and put him back in. if hes flying out of your reach, you could use a long stick or something of the sort and try to get him to step on it, and get him back in that way. i think you could train him, step on the stick= a treat. it might be easier that way
I let my cockatiel out after three weeks at home. She flew on cupboard, sitting there almost an hour. When she get hungry, landed on her cage and then went inside :) That was 2 years ago. Today, she likes to sleep on my shoulder, like stroking his head and fights with sheets of paper :)
when the bird bites just leave it alone for 5 minutes. then come back and if it bites again repeat. when the bird notices biting is bad he will stop. if you give him treats it will think that if he bites=treats. then when it doesn't bite, give the treat.
A very helpful video. I adopted a cockatiel about 4 weeks ago and found that taming a cockatiel is nothing like taming a budgie (parakeet). Budgies tend to be very curious and playful, even arrogant (mine seems to think she's an eagle). I managed to tame her on my terms. For the cockatiel, that didn't work. It has to be on the bird's terms. I initiated taming it like my budgie, but it only made him nervous and scared (hissing!). I changed my approach and he's now eating millet out of my hand :)
My bird just jumped on my hand on his second day when i changed his food is that normal? He even came out, he is really friendly but absolutely refuses to get off me
Since they'e been abused it will take more time though, patience is key, don't go too fast, give them time and stay calm. Even when they attack, don't say anything, just continue and don't give eye-contact. I know it's hard, but if you do say things or you give eye-contact, it will reinforce the behaviour, since you're giving them attention, you are rewarding them for it. Best of luck!
Thanks for the share. With every step and every possible thing that could happen, it helps to tame your bird a lot. And as you lastly say, the key is to be patient and show your affection to your bird.
I have the same problem. My parakeet flies away even after leaving my hand in one part for 30+ minutes. If I move my hand, she flies to the top corner and just stays there.
My cockatiel was tamed the second I got him! I left him alone in his cage for the first day! The second day he just looked ready he was chirping and wanted out of the cage the same night I slept next to him (the night before) he knew I would leave his side the next day I put spray millet in my hand and he actually hopped on my shoulder! We are great pals now!
my bird has been here for 3 weeks and when i put my hand in to change the food and water it hisses at me my husband and already gives the bird millits and a very colorful other treat i don't know the name but i don't think the bird likes em. when I change the food and water the bird hisses at me and i keep trying to give him the millit so i will stop now i done lost my patients i use to have patients with everything not this bird its pissing me off i had a bird before this one and did not have to work on anything it was tame apparently. the lady at the store was able to get the bird this time out of the cage and had no problem y do my husband and i have a problem? i know the lady didn't keep her hand in any cage for 20-30 minutes
Ignore Stefan Jovandickhead - I understand your problem. I got two un-hand raised cockatiels. Having raised parrots before I generally knew what to do. If you want to talk to me Lillyvon@gmail.com My two new non hand raised babies after just 3 days are not biting or scared and are happy being on me and trusting me.
Toni Herstine They will hiss because you are in their territory. Respect their wishes, and don't force them to do anything. Try opening the cage and letting them come out on their own
We adopted a Cokatiel 8 years ago, we had him for 4 years and one morning in 2014 we woke up to a sad sight, he had passed. He was a bit old so we believe he passed from old age as the autopsy didn't reveal much. My god he was such a colorful character, he gave us 4 years of happt moments...I still miss him so much...
Very good, easy guidelines, and straight to the point ..... I like that, I will try putting this to practice with my bird who has been with us a few weeks and is still not totally confident with us, I have fed him millet from outside the cage, he is OK with that, but still gets nervous with me putting my hand in the cage.
Matilda the bird channel with my first bird (a rescue) it took around 6-7 months. But that is a very long time. With my new bird, the progress he is showing, it will probably take 3-4 weeks! Hope this helps
I got 2 tiels a week ago and they're already eating from my hand but I'm going to give it some time before I start to try and get them on my finger. I just did what this video said and just played it by ear. If I felt they were uncomfortable with what I was doing then I'd stop and take a step back. We've progressed quite well considering the short time frame but now I need to take it slowly
That's probably because you have 2 of them. do you have a spare cage? You could try to separate them during the taming process, the cages can be together, but each in a separate cage. It may take some time but it should be easier. The advantage is, that since they are so intelligent, they learn from each other, So when one is doing good and gets rewarded, the other will do the same hing to get the reward.
I just got given a baby cockatiel, i think he is under on years old, his bite is like a feather. Love your way of taming, i will definitely be trying this. Thanks for sharing. :)

THANK YOUUUU i’ve had my cockatiel for 3 weeks and haven’t been able to get him to do anything more can eat a millet stick i’m holding and now he can eat from my hand (kinda i literally just got him to do it)
i love your video. been trying to hand feed my Gouldian Finches Crimson(male) and Karma(female) since quite a few days now and Karma seems to be comfortable to perch on my palm and eat whereas Crimson doesn't seem to trust yet! Funny thing is i tried to just place my palm inside with tiny few seeds and started reading aloud! after a while Karma flies down, perches on my palm and goes off to sleep! i start giggling it looked so funny and she wakes up! all i wanted her was to start getting used to my hand inside the cage! hope i make more progress the coming weeks :D...would love to have them tame as your bird some day soon :)
I have two 'tiels, both between 1 and two years old. They are the same when biting - they don't actually bite my finger, they just tap it with their beak. It's so cute!
Your bird looks exactly like my baby Duckie. He is 10 years old and is still and amazing bird who sings everyday. To be honest, I've never seen another cockatiel have a lot of the same features like mine. The only thing is my cockatiel's bottom wing feathers are white and fluffy not a sleak yellow like your is. Beautiful bird anyways though. :)
Nice video!!! I have two Indian ringneck parrots (5 years old) i have them for almost 3 months!!! i wanted them to be tamed and this video help me Alot!!! Thanks !!! P.S. Nice Song
My cousin has a cockatiel and I have two budgies I watched lots of videos and they helped especially this one now I can open the cage and put my hand in there without them freaking out and going crazy like yesterday thanks
Absolutely true) I just used some other technique, I didn't put any food except water and was trying to feed my bird with my arm, it didn't eat for some days so in this case i was putting a bit for her to eat by itself, not to die of hunger) It takes just a week with small budgies, but cockatiels are smarter and it takes more for them to get used, took about 2 weeks for me. Just the only thing need to mention - never catch your bird, after this it can be afraid of you. Thanks for the video)
I have a single cockatiel for 17 yrs and he has not seemed to mind. If you plan to have just one, it would be preferable that you bond with him or her...that way your bird will have a "friend". Good Luck
I tamed my parakeet in 2-3 "sessions". I placed her on a stand on the floor in a darkened room (only light from the TV) thereby nearly ensuring she would not attempt to fly away. She basically had to tolerate me gently handling her. (I have never had a tamed parakeet. As a kid it was always the "stupid" parakeet that the older folks left in a cage all day that got out and we all had to capture it). She loved being in small places (like down in my bra or in a sock) and the sweetest thing.
I assume it will take quite a while to tame him because it seems he was raised in an outdoor environment away from humans so he is not used to human contact, getting him to eat from your fingers is still a huge achievement.
I got my cockatiel last month and it’s past that month and he can say “Cottorro” and he copies the singing from the wild birds in our backyard I’m starting this technique today and it’s working perfectly
The day I move out, I'm getting another cockatiel. I used to have 3 but I was young and didn't know how to treat them properly so I wanna change that and start over. Thanks for the tips on how to do it.
I've had my cockatiel 'thunder' about 2 weeks. she's only just started taking sunflower seeds off me through the bars but still freaks out when i put my hand in the cage.
my birds are so beautiful and cute and everything they love me when I'm home. Before I leave for work I turn the radio on, so they can feel like I'm there.
That is one of my favorite songs!!!! i love your bird! sooo cute! i want to get one and i got a cage with my own money and everything then i got a rat for christmas so my mom gave away my cage........
I got a cockatiel the other day and I'm letting him get use to the environment first. He gets really scared when I open the cage door though :/ But I'm going to use your tutorial because I find it would be quite helpful, so thank you! :)
And my little trick has worked on all cockatiels, even friends cockatiels a.s.o. i just got a cockatiel 1 month ago and now its completely tame, he sings to my face, sits comfortable and doesnt really care about anyone else than me, he isnt afraid of anything on my body or others, And it knows its surroundings. So theres no reason at all for him to be stressed when he's happy all the time. And same with all the other 25 cockatiels i've owned, and with the friends too. This DOES work FAST.
This was really helpful as i am getting one after xmas how ever what id like to ask if I may is do u clip ur birds some people think its cruel and i dont knwo if i am ment to?
This was really helpful thanks! i'll be getting a pet bird soon so i'm trying to find out all the information I can about them to prepare. One thing i'm scared about is letting it out the cage once it's tamed... will it know to fly back? sorry if that's silly to ask, I'm just wanting to make sure in case i have to train it to get back into its cage haha.
By my experience, I would say lovebirds are more prone to bite, and they bite harder. But both pf those birds are lovely if you are patient and gentle !
will this work with parakeets? Because I want to start taming my parakeet, since he has no friend left. His friend died of old age.:( Yesterday. So I want to be able to start handling him more, and also this is a very good tutorial very clear. Love it :)
Thanks a lot after watching your video I tried to hand feed my cocktail pair they eated first time since I bought them Thanks you ❤️ please advise me next step I am afraid that If I take them out of the cage they will fly away
You're very gentle. :) Pet owners like you who don't pressure their pets are the perfect kind of owner.

used to have a green cheeck conure, now he is out the window

when it is out of the cage just try to tame him and make him to trust you. it is easy to tame a bird when it is out of the cage

should you have the wings clipped ?
it is an idea, but some birds can resent you for it.
NO, DONT clip them!

I assume it will take quite a while to tame him because it seems he was raised in an outdoor environment away from humans so he is not used to human contact, getting him to eat from your fingers is still a huge achievement.
he is puffy at the end. soooooooo cute
I've had my cockatiel 'thunder' about 2 weeks. she's only just started taking sunflower seeds off me through the bars but still freaks out when i put my hand in the cage.
i learnt alot in this video and it was so helpful! thanks
Thank you my parrot doesnt fly away from yesterday while playing outside thank you :)!
Nice information 👍😍 proud
my birds are so beautiful and cute and everything they love me when I'm home. Before I leave for work I turn the radio on, so they can feel like I'm there.
great video I really liked it and now I feel ready to get a bird.
do you do the same things to a more big bird like a Cockatoo or bigger?
That is one of my favorite songs!!!! i love your bird! sooo cute! i want to get one and i got a cage with my own money and everything then i got a rat for christmas so my mom gave away my cage........
thank you! This will help me a lot for taming my pet bird. Because i just got her today
nice I hope she will be fun!
thankyou so much my bird has gotten so much used to me
You make it look so easy I-
How to tame a pet bird: Spend time with it.
If an intruder enters the house my bird will scream until their ears bleed.
I think
I got a cockatiel the other day and I'm letting him get use to the environment first. He gets really scared when I open the cage door though :/ But I'm going to use your tutorial because I find it would be quite helpful, so thank you! :)
Nice fast and good understood thanks hopefully i can gain the trust of my little 2 lovebirbs
Tamed my first one in 2 weeks when i was 8. Its dead now for 6 years. Still miss him. He got 10.
My bird is a cockateil who is named Max who looks exactly like your bird!
This is a very good video!!.
But I have a question, how long did the training cockatiel????
I will apply this steps as i just got my new cockatiel... ,hoping for the positive result! Thank you.
Very helpful I did what you said and it worked thank you Gerry much:D
This is the best video ever in my life
This was really helpful thanks! i'll be getting a pet bird soon so i'm trying to find out all the information I can about them to prepare.
Love it :)
I enjoyed the song selection.
Thanks a lot after watching your video I tried to hand feed my cocktail pair they eated first time since I bought them Thanks you ❤️ please advise me next step I am afraid that If I take them out of the cage they will fly away
New updates they start coming out of the cage and fly in the room and when I call them they started coming to me
