Seeing little girls with anti-aging routines is obviously scary and dystopian, but it’s also fucked up bc with the excessive use of retinol they might be aging themselves artificially due to how harsh the treatments are and how delicate young skin is

The guy trying to reverse his aging reminds me of orthorexia which is a mental disorder where you’re so obsessed with being healthy that it actually becomes unhealthy and takes over your life

    • @VelvetAngel4047
      @VelvetAngel4047 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +383

Most body builders and skincare extremists have this disorder without even knowing it, orthorexia is arguably one of the most common types of eating disorder but it doesn’t have a big spotlight in media for some reason like anorexia nervosa, despite how prevalent it is in the exercise, skincare and dieting community. I personally suffered with orthorexia along with anorexia and it wreaked havoc in my life. Orthorexia isn’t just healthy eating, and that’s what makes it stand out against other eating disorders, it roots itself in other aspects of a persons life that have anything to do with their health, such as skincare, sleep, working out and exercise. it’s so easy to fall into the orthorexia trap, yet so tedious and difficult to crawl out of. Another reason why orthorexia is so difficult to recover from, is that it tricks your mind into thinking that the foods and things you’re doing to achieve optimal health are doing you good, because in the end, you’re taking care of your body, right? You are being nice to your skin and by doing healthy rituals and routines, so how can it possibly be harmful when what you’re doing is the opposite of harmful? The whole point is being kind to yourself and loving yourself! It’s an ugly trap that disguises itself as self love and self care. It’s so hard to see past the lies because on paper it comes off as helpful and beneficial, but in reality it’s all about having control, perfectionism, rigid rules and standards, and compulsions. On top that when it comes to skincare extremists, what would a dermatologist think when they see these people doing all these steps and routines? How would they react? Are these rigorous routines something that dermatologists would approve of for their patients? Would they recommend it? These are questions that someone should ask themselves (and a dermatologist) before performing them. Do they seem logical? Do they seem easy enough to do daily or often?

Kurtis had it right when he said aging is a privilege. No one is promised a tomorrow. Plan for the future and take care of yourself but recognize that if you are able to make it to old age you have been given a gift. Each laugh line and wrinkle on your face was well earned and speaks of a life well lived. Embrace what you have and don’t live your last years in shame because you don’t look the way you did when you were 20 anymore. Live well and enjoy what you have when you have it.

It’s actually insane how eating disorder coded some of this is. The first guy especially, weighed himself and recorded it obsessively, took vitamins instead of getting them from food, made sure to workout before he ate/ put the machine up to 100. The second guy actually seemed to eat more nutritionally balanced but again it has a component of obsession. Mixed with the fasting and doing twice the amount of usual steps in a day. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these extreme anti aging people are actually malnourished and/or overexerting themselves.

The first guy has a whole program/website where he's trying to see if it's possible to reverse-age himself so that his body is the equivalent of an 18-year-old's. It costs him about $2 million a year, and he's pretty well-known for it. He's also a tech guru guy. He constantly tests himself in various different ways to compare his body's levels to the average 18-year-old's levels (hence the part about his boner - he has doctors come in and test him on a bunch of different things constantly). I think he also believes that if he can prolong his life by a number of years, the tech will potentially have advanced to the point where we can essentially live forever - and I think he believes that that turning point is going to happen by the time he's like 120, so he's trying to make sure he lives that long. He's also basically trying to prove that we can all do something similar to what he's doing and we can prolong our lives indefinitely (with the help of some potential tech advancements).
I know he's done a lot of research, so I think most of the pills he's taking aren't gonna kill him or anything, but I'm sure that at least some of what he's doing is kinda new-agey and untested, so may not necessarily be good for you, so some of it could possibly end up killing him prematurely. But I kinda like the fact that he's willing to do all this shit to himself as an experiment to see if it ends up working - and if he's successful with some of it, then the rest of us can start doing some of the stuff that actually works.

You're absolutely right. They can afford all those stuff AND a stressfree life
Poor people will almost always look older than they are because stress is a major contributor to aging. You can look up old pictures of poor people in their 30 and they look 50 years old, because their lives were hard. So in doing all those weird skincare routines and meal preps and getting up before the sun that the rich can afford, theyre actually entering a neverending cycle
They use those things to not get old, but doing such regimes is stressful so theyre aging faster, so they do more strict routines and are stressed more
Also its a very priviledged life to wish to never get old, while poor people stress over and wish they could live long enough to see their children graduate.

During one of their last conversations, he said “Why do you spend so much time worrying about your hair? Just live your life.” She now spends much more time/money on things that make her truly happy and shows off her beautiful gray hair as a reward for living past 60. Health is important, but to an extent, meaning it should never been obsessive or it is no longer healthy. Move your body in ways that feel good and are enjoyable, like hiking in nature or swimming with friends, eat the rainbow but don't focus on all the numbers. Balance, fulfillment, good people around you, access to nature, community, hobbies, etc, that is what leads to a rewarding life, and aging is a blessing. If you hate work or school, appreciate the way to and from it and converse with people to help your day be a little brighter. I work away from home, and its extremely hard 70 hr work week but goddamn the people ive met! Also we literally have little critters in our homes and in trees and stuff like seeing animals gives me 30 minutes of my life back. I pet my cat every time i eat a hotdog !

Realistically if you wanna age well just wear lotion and sunscreen. But also just wear lotion and sunscreen because it’s a good habit in general and let your body age the way it should. Learn to love your body and all that it does for you. Give your body what it needs to be healthy and have energy to support you. And have a good mental mindset so your body can focus on caring for you. My grandma aged so beautifully and she always said her trick was to lover body. Not to love it for what it could be, but love it for what it is.

Hey young people; I'm 32. You'll hear a lot of people say they feel like their body started to betray them around 30. That mostly happens bc people aren't used to needing to actually take care of themselves, bc before 30, you're young and you mostly just bounce back easily. I highly recommend starting to eat right, stretch, and exercise before you get to that point, bc it only gets more challenging to start from scratch as you age. But you can start taking steps to be healthier and mobile no matter how old you are! You can be in great shape for decades after your "youth" has left the building. K bye love you.

I don't do anything anti-age, and use literally no products except foundation, not even moisturizer (sorry), also my lifestyle is very unhealthy, always too much coke zero and not enough sleep... if you aren't getting too much UV light on your skin and don't smoke, that's basically all you can do... Rest is genetics I suppose. Selling anti-aging stuff is just predatory marketing techniques to get rich by making people insecure. It's not worth it. I just turned 40 and was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer about 2 years ago (Linitus Plástica). I have a wife and a two year old daughter. There’s a song titled Hospital Shirt that says “I used to fight to stay young, but now I’m fighting to grow old” and it’s very true. I lived a very healthy life and even then got cancer. Fortunately that healthy life has helped me live far past the expectations of 6-12 months. It’s hard physically, mentally, etc. But boy do I view aging differently now. What a privilege! I dream of becoming an old man with my wife. Extremely unlikely to happen for me, but there is beauty in aging. Anyway probably WAY too heavy of a comment, but that last line really struck me. During my dietetic internship, I met a 90 year old woman who didn’t look a day over 65. When I told her that she looked great for her age she told me she got that all the time. Then she proceeded to tell me that she was a missionary and spent most of her life doing work for her church. Also, while in the hospital, she was never alone. She was always surrounded by family. Long story short, I think the key to living a long and happy life is doing things that keep you fulfilled while surrounding yourself with people that you love.

A bunch of dermatologists have said that skincare routines beyond basic cleansing and/or moisturizing are actually harmful for the skin of young people (like when 12 year olds use retinal for example) because of differences in the properties their skin have at that age.

Not that i care about having wrinkles or whatever, i’m actually excited to get more of them in time. But the idea that a product marketed as anti aging to people who want that will actually cause them worse results and exacerbate the insecurities created by culture and marketing is truly horrifying and evil.

Aging can seem scary but it doesn’t have to be. Aging feeling scary is rooted in patriarchy and the idea that once you age and aren’t in your “prime” (which is a really creepy concept and doesn’t actually exist) you “lose value.”Aging truly is a privilege, and as we age, we meet more people, gain more experience and impact those around us each passing day we age. There are so many people in this world who don’t get to age, because they die or are killed. Thinking of the children and all the people of Gaza makes you realise how aging truly is a privilege. Seeing so many people be killed so brutally, lose their loved ones or if they do survive, live with life altering illnesses or conditions such as hepatitis, burns or amputation makes you realise how aging is a chance of luck and truly is a privilege, and worrying about aging not only feeds into patriarchy, but feeds into vanity and self-centred behaviour. Rest in peace to Medo Halimy, a 19 year old Palestinian who was killed by Israeli airstrikes, and never got to age because of the place he was born. I’m glad Kurtis’ video helped you in a way and I hope you’re doing ok. I hope my comment is of some use or comfort🫶

If you try to hang on to your perceived beauty now, you rob yourself of your ability to be beautiful in other new ways. As I’ve gotten older, there is nothing more beautiful than someone who is kind and likes to laugh, but if you asked my high school self I probably would’ve listed physical attributes

In an entrepreneurship class I took in high school one group started selling bottled air, and it was the most profitable project anyone had ever done at that school. They literally just went out to a farm, filmed themselves waving mason jars around, and made up some nonsense about the health benefits of "rural oxygen".

My ancestors, The Maya and Aztecs, revered a drink called Xocolatl which was made from fermenting, drying and roasting cacao nibs. The end result is very similar to what you drank! And was the precursor to modern hot chocolate. There was no sugar in this drink and it indeed is bitter. Really cool to see it in this video!

Wasn't there also some chili powder in Xocolatl? Not second-guessing you, but I've had a Xocolatl-like drink that had was a bit spicy as well as being bitter

@@northstarjakobs you’re absolutely correct! There is a variation spiced with chili peppers 🌶️ so not only is it bitter but also spicy 🥵 I’ve recently learned myself that there are many different ways they spiced it, sometimes also using vanilla, earflower, maize and sapote seeds. Thank you for adding your knowledge!

@@themixedracekid The spicy-bitter combination is imo massively underrated as flavor combinations go. Another great example (from the same region!) would be something like a mole poblano. Between the taste and how hard it is to cultivate cacao and turn it into something edible, it's honestly no wonder to me that it was a drink reserved for important people and special occasions.

Brandon's tips are honestly not bad for just maintaining general health and some are things I do myself but just for the reason that it makes me feel better/is good for me (i.e. being mindful of sun protection because one bad sunburn does increase your risk of skin cancer). I think the focus on anti-aging can become an issue when it causes you to be overly restrictive or take over your life. It doesn't feel good/healthy to constantly worry about anti-aging and feeling shame if you like to have pizza for dinner once a week.

The only reason I knew about Brandon was because of some ED recovery ppl talking about his lifestyle being triggering for them. I haven't seen enough videos to agree or not, but it sounds like he is fairly obsessive about his routines and stuff! I hope he's doing ok!

21:22 I mean yeah when you work in the kitchen your dominant hand is going to age more and some of that might be from pulling things out of the oven., but even then it's usually because industry kitchen are fast paced and don't use mitts like home cooks and are more likely to burn themselves on a rack or wall. I've got eczema and am a pastry cook, I would wager that the intense chemical sanitizer and boiling hot water I stick my hands in to clean dishes is doing a lot worse for my skin than a full-coverage 5 second gloved hand halfway in the oven.

Also specifically pointing to bakers; gloves tend to make handling kneaded dough a lot more difficult so basically anytime you're working with it it's a cycle of drying your hands out with dough, then drying your hands out with hot water and soap to clean the dough off. There's a million little things that contribute to poor aging in the industry much more than what he thinks.

both of my parents stopped drinking alcohol about a year apart of eachother (along with some other lifestyle changes that come along with that) and both of them looked like aged backwards by at least ten years, my parents have photos from the early 2000s where they look older than they do today. they had a couple friends who followed suit and the same thing happened. it’s kind of crazy how it changes your body in ways you don’t see.
