What a car! Brings me back to my beat up 56 Dodge I had in high school in the 60s. Those push-buttons kept falling in! Drove it over icy hills of NJ fast with bunches of kids in it and tried to get it to fly.
I called an ad for one of these in 1982. It was $500 and in New Jersey. The guy said it was very rusty, and basically saved me from buying something I’d never get running as I was 17 at the time. I still remember 315 CI and D500 in the ad. 😀 Very beautiful car there. I hope the one I didn’t buy was able to supply some parts for another one. 🙂

Yes - Very Rare Car( Very Fast) and was my Dad's Favorite Car. 1956 Dodge D500 with 315 Hemi - Why. My Dad was a California Highway Patrolman 1951 to 1978. In 1956 the CHP got their First Dodge Patrol Car - 1956 dodge 2dr Sedan D500 with the 315 Hemi performance package. My Dad was stationed in Oroville Ca. in 1956 to 58. A small Station of about 18 Officer's. So my Dad and another Officer had 1 car assigned to them with they traded off from day shift to night shift and kept at their homes back then in smaller Stations. This D500 with that Hemi was Very Fast - would peg the needle at the 120 mph on Spedometer and still go a few mph more. This is the only Hemi ever put in any of the CHP Dodge Patrol Cars and was my Dad's Favorite - took me for a ride several times and got on it - Wow !! couldn't do that today. The CHP Dodge's of the 1960's had 413 & 440 wedges. And You have an original D500 56 Royal Lancer - Thank You for a good overview and for starting it up - bring's many good memories from 1956 -57 when I was 11 yrs old.

Hi Zach, (Google search) Here's a Chrysler innovation: a phonograph for your car. In 1956 they teamed with CBS to create the “Highway Hi-Fi” - an under-dash phonograph that played vinyl records at a super-slow 16-2/3 revolutions per minute. The slow speed allowed a small disc to pack up to an hour of entertainment on each side. Lou

First, Louise, you are an “Auto Angel” for giving this car to your friend. It will be well
taken care of in the future. I did not know about these “500” models. What a beauty
from the days when Mopar made superb autos. Hugs To Louise❤❤❤!!!
Hi Rob, Enjoyed reading your comments about Louise and this "superb auto" :-) Lou

You're welcome Gary :-)

Hi Larry, Receiving one of these would be a good day :-) Lou
In 57 both Ford and Chrysler had the lower leaner bodies but the drawback was less leg room on the bigger hump for those who sat in the middle.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
That’s a real cool car Lou with the three tone colors. It seems much nicer than the ’57 that replaced it.
Hi Agostino, Happy to read you enjoy this "real cool car" :-) Lou
Class!
Nice!
Beautiful and stunning no hard plastics detected here definitely a show stopper great shoot as well ✅💯
Happy to read "Beautiful and stunning" :-)
Another great car and story, from what looks to be a fabulous show! As beautiful as the Dodge is, my eyes kept drifting over to the Kaiser Darren and the '57 Merc convertible, and trying to see what else is there! If I know Lou's video style, I think we'll be seeing more of the cars at this show in the next few episodes 😊
Hi Jeff Fixes It, Happy to read you enjoy the car stories :-) You are correct..stay tuned for more from Iola, Lou
This car is newer than factory new.👏
:-)
Holy crap!! A 57 Chevy before the 57 Chevy!
:-)
Automobile designers of this era were artists. This Lancer is a masterpiece!
High praise :-)
Sweet car

Hi Steve, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Roommates car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
There are a select group of automobiles that were classic designs from day one. This 56 Dodge D500 was certainly one of them.
Great review Lou.

Lou, I'm sure you are aware of 56 Dodge LaFemme, a one year special intended to attract the ladies. Tri tone very similar to this two tone beauty!
RICK 0e, I am, and hope to find one for the Channel in the future.
Lou what a very special and beautiful car. I wish you would have done a more thorough job of videoing the cruise in information board that was in the trunk. It was mentioned that the D-500 was a rare option but you didn't follow up with questions about it. I will continue watching your show because of rare finds like this. My hope is that important details, in future My Car Stories, will be included.
Bill, Feel free to share in the comments the info you feel I've missed to add to the Channel, Lou
I never knew about the D500.Thanks for showing this gem,Lou.But I'll take the Kaiser Darrin.

Question: Was that a factory installed A/C under the hood?????
Yes !
I wonder if the needle jumps and skips around on the record in the record-player when the csr is being driven, and if it doesn't, how does it keep from doing it.
Lou
rolling art back then
I agree :-)
Lou, that's an amazing '56 Royal. I know of a four-door '56 Dodge Royal in Bodrum Turkey. It's red / white. I'm not sure of the current condition of the vehicle as I haven't seen it in 7-8 years. I have photos of it which I could share... Cheers, Stuart
Stuart, Happy to read "that's an amazing '56 Royal" :-) Cheers, Lou
I had a 1956 Dodge D-500 3 spd and This was the fastest car INS 1956 and no one actually knew how fast it was, It was a hellavu lot quicker than anything Chevy had!
