I have always felt there was something very special about the Upper Peninsula, and became a volunteer park ranger on Isle Royale, for a season, and later bought property in the middle of the Hiawatha Forest.
I was born and raised in lower Michigan. But to this day, every time I cross the bridge into the U.P. it feels so differently. Like I'm in a whole new world.
I love your video of the U.P. I was born and raised in the little town of Grand Marais on lake Superior. G.M. was a small fishing village on the east end of picture rocks national park. GM is the east entrance to picture rocks park, it has a wonderful RV park on the bluff looking out on the lake. If you didn't stop at GM you missed a great destination. My maternal grandfather was a commercial fisherman in the early 1900's, my paternal grandfather immigrated to the U.P from England to work in the copper mines in the west end of the U.P. As work end and the mines closed, he put in an application with coast guard. He handn't heard from the coast guard about his application, he and my grandmother were packed up to go back to England. The day before they were to leave for england on a ship, his coast guard papers arrive. They unpacked and he entered the coast guard on the very west end of the U.P, he served in every station going east on Superior. They ended up in grand marais where he retired as a captain. I am the fourth generation on my mothers side to be born and raised in grand marais. I am a transplanted yooper living in green bay wisconsin with my wife and two children, I will always be a yooper no matter where I live. My heart is always in the U.P. Sorry for the long post, I wanted to share some of the great history of the U.P. We just sold our 26 foot camper and bought a 18 footer, we are down to 1 child left at home and didn't need the big camper. When the kids are gone we plane on doing a lot of traveling with the RV. Keep the videos coming, we love them!
Awe! You need to come back 😊 Michigan has been home to me for 50 yrs now and as bad as the forever increasing freezing winters get longer and the spring shortly follows. Then a scorching summer to miss in a blink and gone the most besutiful fall on the planet...I've longed to live elsewhere. But the beauty here is like no other and home to me. So I will travel all over and always come home 😊
OMG! You came through my home state - the beautiful state of Michigan!! We feel so blessed to have been born and raised here; always a beautiful lake nearby, plenty of camping, the Mackinac Bridge, the UP, miles and miles of lakeshore... We got it all! No hurricanes, tsunamis, wildfires, earthquakes and the lakes are salt and shark free. My favorite spot on the entire planet is Pyramid Point in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, north of Glen Arbor off M22. It is absolutely the most surreal and majestic view I have ever seen.
After living on Lake Superior for a few years in the late 70's I fell in love with the natural beauty and wonderful people. Experiencing all the seasons there only endeared me to UP. It is one of the nations most beautiful treasures. So glad you got to experience a Pasty!

Have been camping in the U.P. Of Michigan yearly for about 12 years, am heading there again this September right after Labor Day!! So beautiful and friendly! Love the whole Upper part of Michigan!! The rest isn't bad either! Great video!!
Kristy, I know what you mean about some days invoking some homesickness. In 1976, the Bicentennial of the USA, we were stationed in Misawa AFB, Misawa, Japan. Even though the base put on an awesome July 4th show for us, I think everyone there had a lot of sadness that we were not on USA soil. That was probably the most homesick I have ever been, and I have lived and traveled away from home most of my adult life.
Pasties are awesome if done right. The little shops usually have the best. The UP looks like a mitten or some say a bridge. For the ones that think of it as a bridge consider what is under the bridge? Read Billy goats gruff if you do not know about the trolls.
My wife and I live in Michigan. YES!!! The U.P. is the best place on the planet. You can pay for your gas AFTER you fill up. Thats rare. And all of us who live south of the bridge, are Trolls. If you ever come again, you can check out a whole new set of things to see. Thx

Sean and Kristy you have an amazing ability to tell stories not only of people you meet but of the Places you go to. It’s incredibly romantic and also beautiful to see all these places that we have to see now that we have our own little home on wheels to bring behind us. I’m truly excited in ways that I haven’t been in a long time to see my great country in ways I haven’t in a very long time. This is 100% why we bought our Rig and will be doing this until we can’t any longer. It’s the start of something amazing and wonderful!

Long Long Honeymoon Yep! It’s up from here! Starting a little smaller and more basic, then when we have more of a feel for what we need and want moving up from there. First will be the Truck, gotta have a great vehicle to tow an even better Rig!. Then get that Trailer that we feel will last a long, long time. it’s all in the details I think. In the meantime make it all count and enjoy the ride. The first really big trip will be 2020 to Daytona during Speedweeks for the 500. Always wanted to go but prices for hotels are crazy high. Now problem solved and doesn’t matter if there are postponements or the like, just go home and come back the next day. For now regional travel no more than a 1800 mile trip in May & June. It’s really going to be fun!

Has anyone given you a lesson on the history of the Cornish Pasty? I noticed someone below mentioned the Cornish connection. The pasty was designed for tin miners, in Cornwall, a long time ago. In the old days, tin miners' hands would get covered with tin dust. It's toxic, so their wives developed a pie with an enormous crimped edge. When they brought out the pie for their lunch, they held it my by the crimped edge. They ate the pie, but not the crimped edge, which they threw away at the end of the meal. They only got the dust on the crimped edge. Hopefully, you already knew this, and you can forgive my generally pedantic nature in bringing it up. I've been watching your newer videos, and I am glad to see that you got away from trying to be quite so artsy. This one works pretty well, but I think your videos are better for being more spontaneous, and for letting more of your personalities show through, rather than doing so much voice over.
Hey guys, love all your videos, very helpful and entertaining. We just got home from a 3 week vacation to Upper Peninsula, Michigan and loved our trip! Next year we hope to go to Alaska, love all those videos as well! We just bought an rv last year and have just begin to do some traveling. My wife is retired and I will as well when our daughter, Caitlyn, ages-out of school in Georgia. She has Downs Syndrome and can stay until she turns 22. I work in the school system and will retire in December when she graduates, so, we're planning on doing a lot of rving especially in the spring and fall. Love keeping up with your travels!
I'm from Florida and we made it to the U.P. (my 80 y/o Cuban mom and I in our 29ft TT), and stayed at Copper Harbor and Sault St. Marie after leaving Wisconsin and heading home. We thoroughly enjoyed that area so much, we plan on going back next month on our way to Wisconsin, only staying longer to explore more. This brought back good memories. Thank you.
I lived in IN for two years and hubs had relatives up there and they use to say they never see the sun till they get to IN so they like to get their tan then.... What a beautiful place.

I just found this. I have been in the Thumb of MI for 6 months working. It does get hot here. The weather skipped spring altogether and went straight to 96 degrees. I came in a snow storm and enjoyed it enormously. Going on next week to other places in my new tiny pull behind trailer.

We are actually going to Northern Michigan tomorrow (Traverse City) to visit family. I want to spend more time in the UP. My wife always wants to use our adventure day to go to Macinac Island. I mean it's great, but I don't have to go every year to see the 18 fudge shops! lol I hope she doesn't see this...
We are from Alpena, MI, on the N.E. coast of the Lower Peninsula. We just got a new RV an our maiden trip will be to the Eastern UP next week. First we are going across to my brothers property in Copemish the heading north on the west side to check out the fall colors, then across the bridge for more of the same, light houses I'm sure, and hopefully my whole justification for buying an RV, some Steelhead. I love steelhead fishing, trout fishing in general, but it can be brutal, It's nice to be able to wake up next to the river in comfort before I go torture myself with weather, insects, poison ivy, etc. for the rest of the day.
I really look forward to aeeing more of my home state (Michigan) once retired. I'll need to be a workcamper...but that'll be fine by me. Also making me home sick for that BIG mitten!
Nice job on the video but if you really want to see the Pictured Rocks, doing it by kayak is the best. We have been there numerous times and we never tire of the views.

Back in the summer of 2012 in Texas we had 100 straight days of over 100 degrees, averaging 110 degrees. One hot summer. Went to Marquette and Houghton in August of 2015 and fell in love with the UP, in the summer. Would love to go camping there soon.

Paties!? Didn't realize that was a MI thing too. In AZ, we have a local restaurant chain called "Cornish Pasty Company". There is one in Mesa and one in Tempe. Fantastic little hot pocket things. This place has about 40 different types, including a apple pie desert one. I recommend them next time you are through AZ.
OH yea I love BYT too, I work not to far from them. Hmm maybe I need tacos for lunch tomorrow. LOL One of our best Irish food places is Rula Bula, in Tempe. Great Irish pub and restaurant, with famous fish and chips. But everything there is amazing. :)
As a lifelong Michigander, of Finnish decent, that also lived in Chandler AZ for a spell.. I can tell you that Cornish Pasties from the Cornish Pasty Company in Tempe are not the same as Michigan (Finnish) Pasties. The principle is the same, but Cornish pasties are much greasier. They're decent in their own right, but I'm admittedly biased towards the ones my Mom made by hand growing up. A pot pie is a better description, pretty dry and flaky if done Michigan style. Oddly, the wooden benches in that Tempe location did remind me of a different restaurant in the UP when I was there though.
I was born and raised in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and traveled all across the u p so many times but have never stopped in Munising to see the pictured rocks I have been to the tahquamenon falls many times. I think this summer I will make a trip to Munising and Grand Marais. Sam from fifth wheel feel did a video of that. Thank you for your videos love them all.
just saw this one on the U.P. Great as we are doing the complete loop from Alpena up and around Lake Superior and back this July, ~1,600 miles! Will be a lot of time and miles in Ontario which should be fantastic. Now know an extra day in the Munising area will be a must for Pictured Rocks boat tour. $32 will be a bargain now 7 yrs. later no doubt. Please let me know when you make available the “Get Hitched” logo line of shirts you have both been wearing in the past. Always liked those the best. OK - as a guy born and bred in the West Country of England, I just have to say that the pasty originated in Cornwall, where they were, as you said, a traditional lunch, especially popular with miners. In Cornwall, where until recently the vocabulary still had so much old English and Celtic in it that it sounded like a foreign language, it's also called a tiddy oggie. Don't blame me, I just used to live there...

You were in my backyard I live in the lower peninsula but I travel to the UP about 10 to 20 times a year to camp it’s my favorite place. What a lovely video thank you for sharing. I hope you got a chance to go to the sleeping bear dunes when you were in the lower peninsula that is my real backyard I’m about 10 minutes away.
I forgot to mention in my first comment, pasties came from england with immigrants moving to the U.P to work in the copper mines and iron ore mines. The wife would make pasties for their husbands to take into the mines for lunch, they would wrap them in heavy cloth to keep them warm. Superior is the biggest and deepest of the great lakes, all the other great lakes can be dumped into superior and it wouldn't come close to filling up superior.

Hey Guys, Love your Videos. I stumbled up on the UP one. I was stationed in St. Ignace late 90 and left there in 2002. The Soo is a great place. The Falls are beautiful in the winter time. *Bring snow shoes*. Pictured Rocks my wife who is from Mississippi fell in love with the area. Were you both able to see the Northern Lights while you were up there? They are amazing! Those from the lower penn are called "Trolls" btw. We are just starting out camping and our 3 boys 4, 2 and 2 are loving every moment we are able to go. *yes twins*

Yeah, yeah, its an ancient video but we are heading to the U.P. in a few days and were looking for info. The shot of the two pasties and two diet Mountain Dews cracked me up. You two are my kind of people.
We are actually going to Northern Michigan tomorrow (Traverse City) to visit family. I want to spend more time in the UP. My wife always wants to use our adventure day to go to Macinac Island. I mean it's great, but I don't have to go every year to see the 18 fudge shops! lol I hope she doesn't see this...
We are from Alpena, MI, on the N.E. coast of the Lower Peninsula. We just got a new RV an our maiden trip will be to the Eastern UP next week. First we are going across to my brothers property in Copemish the heading north on the west side to check out the fall colors, then across the bridge for more of the same, light houses I'm sure, and hopefully my whole justification for buying an RV, some Steelhead. I love steelhead fishing, trout fishing in general, but it can be brutal, It's nice to be able to wake up next to the river in comfort before I go torture myself with weather, insects, poison ivy, etc. for the rest of the day.
I was stationed in Michigan when I was in the Air Force. I was in the Lower Peninsula at Wurtsmith AFB. Now closed but it was quite an experience.

Grew up in Michigan as kids and we love the U.P. There is an awesome city campground on Lake Superior at Munising and another in Grand Marais, MI.
We heading up to yooper country this coming summer. Your video is just making us want it even more.
I really look forward to aeeing more of my home state (Michigan) once retired. I'll need to be a workcamper...but that'll be fine by me. Also making me home sick for that BIG mitten!

Nice job on the video but if you really want to see the Pictured Rocks, doing it by kayak is the best. We have been there numerous times and we never tire of the views.

The water falls on pictured rocks rocks was flowing backwards the wind was blowing so hard. Huge waves beating the shore last week.

Back in the summer of 2012 in Texas we had 100 straight days of over 100 degrees, averaging 110 degrees. One hot summer. Went to Marquette and Houghton in August of 2015 and fell in love with the UP, in the summer. Would love to go camping there soon.

Paties!? Didn't realize that was a MI thing too. In AZ, we have a local restaurant chain called "Cornish Pasty Company". There is one in Mesa and one in Tempe. Fantastic little hot pocket things. This place has about 40 different types, including a apple pie desert one. I recommend them next time you are through AZ.
We will definitely check out the AZ pasties. BTW, we loved Backyard Tacos in Mesa....
OH yea I love BYT too, I work not to far from them. Hmm maybe I need tacos for lunch tomorrow. LOL One of our best Irish food places is Rula Bula, in Tempe. Great Irish pub and restaurant, with famous fish and chips. But everything there is amazing. :)
As a lifelong Michigander, of Finnish decent, that also lived in Chandler AZ for a spell.. I can tell you that Cornish Pasties from the Cornish Pasty Company in Tempe are not the same as Michigan (Finnish) Pasties. The principle is the same, but Cornish pasties are much greasier. They're decent in their own right, but I'm admittedly biased towards the ones my Mom made by hand growing up. A pot pie is a better description, pretty dry and flaky if done Michigan style.
Oddly, the wooden benches in that Tempe location did remind me of a different restaurant in the UP when I was there though.

I was born and raised in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan and traveled all across the u p so many times but have never stopped in Munising to see the pictured rocks I have been to the tahquamenon falls many times. I think this summer I will make a trip to Munising and Grand Marais. Sam from fifth wheel feel did a video of that. Thank you for your videos love them all.
My first job was at the Valley Camp, I was 14 years old.
just saw this one on the U.P. Great as we are doing the complete loop from Alpena up and around Lake Superior and back this July, ~1,600 miles! Will be a lot of time and miles in Ontario which should be fantastic. Now know an extra day in the Munising area will be a must for Pictured Rocks boat tour. $32 will be a bargain now 7 yrs. later no doubt.
Please let me know when you make available the “Get Hitched” logo line of shirts you have both been wearing in the past. Always liked those the best.

OK - as a guy born and bred in the West Country of England, I just have to say that the pasty originated in Cornwall, where they were, as you said, a traditional lunch, especially popular with miners. In Cornwall, where until recently the vocabulary still had so much old English and Celtic in it that it sounded like a foreign language, it's also called a tiddy oggie. Don't blame me, I just used to live there...

We've been to Minnesota (stayed in Minneapolis and Detroit Lakes) but not to the North Shore you mention.

You were in my backyard I live in the lower peninsula but I travel to the UP about 10 to 20 times a year to camp it’s my favorite place. What a lovely video thank you for sharing. I hope you got a chance to go to the sleeping bear dunes when you were in the lower peninsula that is my real backyard I’m about 10 minutes away.

I forgot to mention in my first comment, pasties came from england with immigrants moving to the U.P to work in the copper mines and iron ore mines. The wife would make pasties for their husbands to take into the mines for lunch, they would wrap them in heavy cloth to keep them warm. Superior is the biggest and deepest of the great lakes, all the other great lakes can be dumped into superior and it wouldn't come close to filling up superior.

Hey Guys, Love your Videos. I stumbled up on the UP one. I was stationed in St. Ignace late 90 and left there in 2002. The Soo is a great place. The Falls are beautiful in the winter time. *Bring snow shoes*. Pictured Rocks my wife who is from Mississippi fell in love with the area. Were you both able to see the Northern Lights while you were up there? They are amazing! Those from the lower penn are called "Trolls" btw. We are just starting out camping and our 3 boys 4, 2 and 2 are loving every moment we are able to go. *yes twins*
