I rode cross country from San Diego in 1974. Put 14k miles on in 4 months and still remember all the 'Wall Drug's signs' leading up to South Dakota! Had to stop just to get ice water in Wall Drug Store!! I would have stopped at the Iowa 80 truck stop but it wasn't that much to see in '74. Being on my Honda 750 there wasn't that much too see at any truck stop.
Folks, I hope you don’t tire of hearing this, but you guys have been an inspiration to my wife and me. We took delivery of our Leisure Travel Van in early June and we’ve put more than 12K miles on it. I retired in May and we’re spending the time learning how to operate the coach and how to park everywhere from downtown in the likes of Boston and Pittsburgh all the way to dry camping in way out BLM land. We added 850 watts of solar and 8000 watt-hours of lithium, so we can stay disconnected for two to four days easily. And so far we have managed with NO generator on board, although we may pick up a small Honda at some point. For now, we are keeping it simple with a 25 foot coach… not towing anything and not even a bike rack on the back so we can move around and park pretty much anywhere. We call the coach Tortuga because we go slow and carry our home on our back! Maybe we’ll see you down range… LoLoHa and safe travels!
At last!! Another Long Long Honeymoon travelogue type video. I was trying to be patient, but it has been a long, long time with patience being stretched to the max! It is good to see that you still actually go somewhere and don't just buy products to talk about them. It is a big beautiful country. Go enjoy it. Take your camera along. Put it to good use while traveling. Share those videos with us! We will appreciate it!!!
When you are in the Sioux Falls area there is a great State Park just about 25 miles south. Newton Hills State Park is a great campground with electric only campsites but also great comfort stations and of course a good dump station and potable water fill station. It has fabulous trees and shady areas in the campsites. There is another State Park close to Sioux Falls also just to the northeast of the city. Pallisades State Park is a smaller park but with great camping and unique rock formations and Devil's Gulch which is where Jesse James reportedly jump across the gulch to make his escape from a posse.
We stayed in the Badlands Nomad overlook early September last year, it was around 80° the day we arrived and beautiful but the temps took a nose dive and the wind picked up severely over night and my wife was worried about going over the edge!! Lol. The next couple days was like riding a train rocking back and forth and cooking and eating was a challenge, like eating in the dinning car of a traveling train ( memories of my childhood)!! Lol. It was awesome and fun!! We moved on to Custer State Park and went to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy horse, they were awesome and it felt so patriotic to be there at Rushmore!!
We camped there in June of this year we was on our way to the Black Hills to ride our side by side. It was us and two more couples we camp north of the towers and rode our side by side in the park had a great time.We was all in 5th wheel and I’m 71’ feet long pulling double. You have view like all way.
AWESOME video. I camped in Badlands one night about 10 years ago, I'm 99% sure you even showed the site we stayed in, the one with the tree. You could tell it gets hot there with the metal cover they have around the table at every site. I'm fortunate enough to have visited many national parks and Badlands is definitely like no other and a must see if you ask me. Enjoy the road and stay safe.
Worlds largest truck stop also has a nice museum that’s free that has many older trucks. Trucks from every era. Was a great stop on our trip. 500 miles west on I80 in Nebraska is the worlds largest rail yard. That was also a nice break of a travel day.
Nice video! Really beautiful. Love the badlands. It is long ways down there. I don’t know how animals do it. Those prairie dogs are cute. It’s a nice area to boondock. Park looks nice and hiking looks fun. Thank you for showing the badlands and Walldrugs. Not sure how it is spelled. Hope you have a great day and week and see you soon!
Iowa 80 may seem like a tourist trap to you, but it provides a valuable rest stop for cross country truckers. It has plenty of truck parking in a world that is short of parking. They have the needed trucking supplies, along with a dentist, chiropractor, and barber.
That's awesome! I sincerely enjoyed it. I intended to stop for 10 minutes and we stayed for an hour. My father is a truck driver (drives baby chicks) and he told me he has stopped there many times. I'm sure we will stop there again. 👍
I live in a place with no big truck stops, so I think they're amazing! Providing the essentials for some of our essential workers (long haul truckers) is a great service.
We were in the Badlands 3 weeks ago. Yes - VERY windy at times (with occasional thunderstorms). North of the southern entrance (I-90 exit) is the Minuteman Missle Silo National Monument that we thought was very interesting to stop and visit. I see that you still had smoke in the air. We had visibility (best) at 2-3 miles. Smoke did not clear out until we hit Montana. Thanks for the video!
We where on that road in the bad lands 40 years ago on an overlook similar to where you where in a truck camper. A storm came up and visibility went to s--t so pulled off the road on a shoulder. We couldn't see anything but could feel the rig moving. when the storm cleared the camper had twisted on the truck and the whole truck slid in the mud to within 5 feet of the drop off. New skivies where in order. I couldn't believe the truck slid that far and that close to the edge. It was a pretty place
We arrived at the Badlands disbursed camping area on Thursday and are still here. We stayed about a half mile north of you. Sorry I didn’t recognize your rig on one of my bike rides, I would have liked to meet you and say thanks for your channel.
Yes, I can agree with the idea of the winds in this area. I was there end of April early May time frame and you had to lean into the wind to walk at Wall. They may have helped with that since they upgraded the area but I would put it in the 50 mph range with change of seasons. A local told me at the time their windy days are like we having none back east by comparison. Not always strong but breezy.
One of the issues I found when we've had the option to RV in fee-free areas is the trash that's left behind. I'm not talking about bags of garbage, I'm talking about the bits and pieces of junk that campers and RVer's fail to pick up. I keep a pair of gloves and bags in the side of the vehicle door, so I can "do my part" to keep this great land of ours beautiful. That being said, I shouldn't have to, nor should anyone else have to, pick up someone else's crap. While cigarette butts are the primary source of the trash I pick up, I also pick up a lot of bits of paper and plastic as well. I've picked up a lot of little RV items e.g. fuses, plastic from wires, plasticware, tp from "dry campers", tissue, candy wrappers, bottles, and cans, etc. When I pick up trash it typically fills an entire grocery bag and sometimes more. I'm sure there are others that do the same, but in fee areas, you're paying someone else to look over the space and if there is something that was inadvertently dropped or blew out of the bed of some pickup, they'd handle it. Paying a nominal fee in these areas would also help keep the homeless from settling in for days on end. It may not be a problem in this area but it could be in others. Personally, I'd be willing to pay a nominal fee to have someone keep the area free from trash, fill the ruts and holes in with some type of crushed rock, and maintain any other structures that may need to be kept in good working order.
We stayed at Hitchcock! Such a pleasant surprise up there. Didn't even need AC as we had a site at the edge with the breeze coming up the hill. Lovely spot. Thanks for the extra beta on the dispersed camping road near Badlands. I'm glad that one is still open. Formerly less regulated dispersed camping above us here in Boulder CO has been shut down due to irresponsible campers, trash, fires, etc. Location, location, location...
That's a shame to hear about the irresponsible litterbug campers. We will try to raise awareness of this issue, although I don't think our audience are the ones causing the problems.
We were at the Badlands several years ago. It was long before we purchased our rv. We need to go back now that we have the RV and spend more time. Lynn and Danny
You missed the true gem across from the world's largest truckstop. The gem that is Walcott Radio...a cornucopia of CB, ham and every type of antenna! They get some of my money every time I pass that way.
We must be just right behind you...lol...we are overnight in Murdo South Dakota making our way to Colorado ! Been on the road for two months.... Got one more month to go before making our way back to Florida....
Badlands was the very first place I got to use my new Senior America the Beautiful pass! I stayed at Left Tailrace COE campground in the MIDDLE of the Missouri River at Big Bend Dam, just north of Chamberlain SD. Wonderful scenic place. For many years, I thought the Badlands was a place that BAD GUYS hid out. I finally found out it was a place the Indians regarded simply as BAD LAND or useless land.
It was so nice to meet you! You are just as nice in person as you are in your videos! You are allowed to stay there 2 weeks. I have personally seen a camper off the side. That wind is no joke. Maybe I’ll see you guys in the Tetons. :)
Thank you for promoting nomad camping. Not sure if I can convince my family to do it, but would love to try a dispersed camping site and use all of your Loloho tips!
Kum &Go is an Iowa based company. I was in the SanFrancisco airport and saw a guy wearing a Kum &Go t-shirt, asked if he was from Iowa. He answered “No dude, just liked the message “😎
Your ending was just fine without any cliff falling! Thanks again, great video. Badlands are awesome! Been there a few times, never camped, too windy when I was tenting. Don't miss Theodore Roosevelt NP further west. A little different, but lots of wildlife and dog squeaky toys! Or prairie dogs. Have fun. Stay safe.
Yup, spent a couple weeks back in May this year. Wind was insane a few days then too. Good advice on the rain and mud. Wall Drug, try the donuts, they were good!
Love SD as well - we were there last fall for our first trip but not the last. We were a little too inexperienced at boondocking and the West and didn't safe going out to 'the cliff'. It turns out it was a good thing as a huge storm blew threw (the one that ended up hitting Iowa as a derecho). Next time though.....
We left camping there the 22nd must have just missed you! The wind scared us so much the one night we sat in the truck for a while. Can't beat the views though totally worth it!
We just visited the Nomad's View last month. Parked in the same spot as you did. It was very windy the day we were there and ended up moving our trailer back off the cliff. We really loved staying there and will stop every chance we get.
Thanks for the details on the dispersed camping! We are looking forward to checking it out in the future. It was super fun to see and meet you on one of those "sick views"! Definitely a serendipitous meeting for us :). And I must say that Andy's hat did indeed blow over one of the cliffs. He wanted to try and get it back but I wouldn't let him. Easier to replace a hat than a husband ;) Thanks for the sticker that now adorns our rig. First of many! Andy & Theresa
Thanks for giving info on the ability to bring in larger Rvs into the campsites, the one drawback of having a large motorhome,is finding a place to park
Great to hear Vinnie is opening a shop in Tally!! We have been trying to find a block of time to travel from east TN to Cali for the ceramic coating. Now, with parents and friends in Tallahassee we travel there several times a year. Great news!!!
This video is very timely, as I will be in Bandlands NP in about 3 weeks. Thanks for the great video and insight into my future travels. I agree with your suggestion about dispersed camping in National Parks, with one tweak - needs to be inside the parks because NPS does not control the land outside the parks. I dispersed camped in Death Valley NP two years ago, and it was GREAT!
🔴🤚🏼🤚🏼Hello greetings from Dallas Texas I just bought an arvi and your tips have helped me a lot in how to drive my truck with my RV👍🏼 thanks God bless you guys👍🏼
We LOVE the Badlands. I wish I could feel comfortable driving our short Class A rig out there. We scouted out that area and felt that a couple washed out areas would not work for us. :-( The wildlife viewing there is awesome. Enjoy. Glad to see you guys traveling again.
A fair amount of crossover on our paths recently! I'm putting together a video of our trip now which will have some similar stops. I really appreciate your humor and perspective on this video. Great film, as usual!
Truly a beautiful area. Thank you so much for the gorgeous views. And your ending scenario was just the laugh I needed! Ida came calling to me on a direct path!! Take care and y’all have a blast.
The Badlands and the nearby Theodore Roosevelt NP are both underappreciated, and they were the highlights of our trip. When we bought our first little RV in 2015, an A-frame trailer, my objective was the Badlands. I’d never been there, on my cross country camping trip decades ago we had come so close but missed the turnoff somehow. So that was on the top of my list for 40 years. We could not have done the dispersed with that little trailer, tho. No potty, no holding tanks, no solar. But now that we have our bad-ass Travato, we need to go back there! I love truckstops, I love all the gadgets they sell, and Iowa-80 looks like the ne plus ultra! It’s on my list now. But I’m disheartened by the lack of masks. We just got back from a trip from CA to CO/NM and people acted like Covid didn’t exist. I even got in a fight with a guy standing behind me in a fast food line. I was the only mask in line and he declared loudly to the guy standing behind him that masks I did nothing and Dr. Fauci was an idiot. I’m 75, he was about 40. I whirled around and lit into him You’re welcome to your wrongheaded opinion but I don’t understand being hostile to someone who takes precautions. My husband has had a heart transplant, we are super careful. And I believe in science. I’m the first generation of little kids who got the polio vaccine in the ‘50s and I remember what it was like before that. Public places shut down in Los Angeles in the summertime because of polio epidemics. Public swimming pools, theaters, county fairs. I embrace vaccines. ‘Nuff said.
The masks do nothing but make You feel protected and Fauci is a partisan hack not so much an idiot. That " vaccine " is not a true vaccine, so the polio thing doesn't apply to this semi useless concoction.
@@digger105337 My goodness, where do people come up with these ideas?! And moreover why aren’t they questioning the illogic? Of course masks work. Some masks work better than others and a lot of people don’t wear them properly, but ask any surgeon: does your mask work? You’ll get a lecture on microbiology and virology and why masks work. Would you want someone to operate on you without a mask? Of course not! Masks work the same way that the old adage of “cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze“ works. They diminish droplet spread - you keep your bugs to yourself. I wear a mask to protect you and you wear a mask to protect me. Except it’s been pretty lopsided lately with all the misinformation and ginned up hostility. And whatever internet meme you read about the Covid vaccine not being a true vaccine is ridiculous, as well. Look it up in any dictionary. This is a new type of vaccine and we don’t have to inject live or kill viruses for this bug. The mRNA gives your immune system a snapshot of what it needs to recognize so it can develop its defenses. It doesn’t come from an animal, but it works in a similar way. It’s a vaccine. And I won’t get into Dr. Fauci. He is neither a saint nor the devil. He is a competent, highly experienced scientist. Does he appreciate people who believe in science and eschew crackpot theories about malaria drugs and dewormers? Yes. See above. He is a scientist. Your lack of critical reasoning and your willingness to believe snake oil salesmen, dubious gurus, and partisan internet memes over experienced scientists is the tragedy of this pandemic.
I also did this same trip in early July. Enjoyed this revisit! However, we passed on Iowa 80 because we were on a 10 hour drive to get back to Michigan.
I feel like many national parks do have national forest land just outside that offer free dispersed camping. I personally have camped within 5-10 miles of Grand Canyon, Joshua Tree, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Black Canyon of Gunnison, Great Sand Dunes, and Badlands all on dispersed camping.
In this video you drove right by my place on centerl IL... yannies gyros is a fantastic place but you should have visited D'Arcy's pint for the best horse shoe around
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed the beautiful views. What happened at 08:39 in the drone shot? Looks like Kristy tripped over the hitch trying to catch something. I hope her legs are ok. Or was that an illusion because the video speed increase.
Had a great trip several years ago ! Wall drug, Colorado Springs, a Cold War missile site, pikes peak, Carlsbad caverns, that mountain from the ufo movie (lol), great trip!
I rode cross country from San Diego in 1974. Put 14k miles on in 4 months and still remember all the 'Wall Drug's signs' leading up to South Dakota! Had to stop just to get ice water
in Wall Drug Store!! I would have stopped at the Iowa 80 truck stop but it wasn't that much to see in '74. Being on my Honda 750 there wasn't that much too see at any truck stop.

We call the coach Tortuga because we go slow and carry our home on our back! Maybe we’ll see you down range… LoLoHa and safe travels!
Awesome, sounds like you have the right idea keeping it simple and fun. Safe travels! Thanks for your post.
Like the badlands very much . Thx again loloho 💕
We camped at the gap July 5th 2020. Very windy but beautiful.
At last!! Another Long Long Honeymoon travelogue type video. I was trying to be patient, but it has been a long, long time with patience being stretched to the max! Great 👍 video my traveling friend, thank you for sharing it. 🤗
We were there the last week of July and first week of August, camped in Sturgis and rode the Harley to the badlands and it was 107 out!!!!
My father is a truck driver (drives baby chicks) and he told
me he has stopped there many times. I'm sure we will stop there again. 👍
@@LongLongHoneymoon when your father came home from work, was he in a fowl mood? :D
They also have an awesome truck museum on the north end of the property. No cost, donations accepted, and very interesting.
I live in a place with no big truck stops, so I think they're amazing! Providing the essentials for some of our essential workers (long haul truckers) is a great service.
hahah I saw a lot of Kum&Gos on my roadtrip out west this summer and had the same reaction too!!
We were in the Badlands 3 weeks ago. Yes - VERY windy at times (with occasional thunderstorms). I think it was a previous Badlands Video of your that made me realize I should put it on the list.
We were just there for our big summer trip. We stayed at a private campground just outside the park.
The overlook at Nomad View is US Forest NOT National Park Service. The NPS starts after you cross over the ridge into the badlands.
Correct! He never said that Nomad view was part of the national park, just that it is located north of the national park. ;)
Make sure to stop at Ole’s Big Game Bar in Paxton, NE right off i80, east of Ogallala
We will have to go there when we head out that way!
Been there. I really enjoyed the Badlands but didn’t stay long enough to see it all. Happy trails!

9,100 ft in Colorado, 68 and sunny! Dispersed camping just outside Divide, west of Colorado Springs on 24.
LOVE the Badlands! Thanks for another great video!

We truck camped outside Wall last summer. It was fabulous!
You are correct that is a great place to visit. Took the rv there in mid Sept of this year. Great views and colors in the park. Safe travels.
I80-We're just there last week, on our way home to Hot Springs SD.

Did you all survive the thundrstorm Monday afternoon?
Your videos are THE BEST!
Wow, thanks! We try! :D
Honest Abe was actually born in Kentucky. We loved boondocking outside of Wall. Safe travels.
Been to the mammoth bone dig in Hot Springs? Another great stop not visited as often as it should be.
It looks nice, but will look nicer once they finish landscaping it. :)
The diesel fuel at our Kum & Go has lubricity improvers and Cetane boosters. That is the only place I buy fuel.
I noticed that signage at the pump! We will definitely stop there again.

LOL now I gotta get the t-shirt 🤣
We have our appointment set with Bryan to ceramic coat our trailer in Tallahassee FL November 10. Very excited.

That's a really interesting geographical area. Thanks for sharing, guys.
Nomad view is great - thanks for the background on getting into the area.
Oh no! Sorry to hear about Andy's hat. Yes, much easier to replace a hat than a husband. We enjoyed meeting you! 🤙🏻
The hat's a loss for his bald head but he does have others. I hope we run across you again as we wonder the world. Safe travels!
Another great video did most those stops last year plus Custer SD our favorite trip ever!
Haven't been out there yet, maybe Tuesday or next week when it cools down. Hope you had fun. See y'all down the road.
OMG, the wife would say we just left there two days ago. And saw an Airstream there as well.
I do love the Badlands. We went this spring and enjoyed it so much!
Wow, that's a very cool place to camp. I don't think my wife would like it so close to the edge. Great views!
Badlands surprised me, definitely underrated! If you have the time or it's on your route, I'd recommend driving to Devil's Tower as a bonus.
We've been to Devil's Tower before. Definitely a cool place worth visiting!
This video is everything we did this summer!!!!!!
I also did this same trip in early July. Enjoyed this revisit!
However, we passed on Iowa 80 because we were on a 10 hour drive to get back to Michigan.
@@michellebieke2589 check out our video of Iowa 80!
Visiting the World's Largest Truck Stop with The DaubSquad
Beautiful country!🇺🇸
If you read this and are still in the S.D. Badlands area be sure to visit Minute Man Missile National Historic Site there as well. It is outstanding.
Good suggestion about all national parks. We live in East Flyover country like you do and no dispersed camping for 1000 miles.
Thank you so much for mentioning the Cum and Go. I was so taken aback by them! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I didn't trip, but I did bend over to pick something up. Maybe that was it?
Wonderful video, this is now on my bucket list to visit!
You should!
When working in Medora, they had a bit of prairie dog problem on the golf course/
Next time you're in the Sioux Falls area I can highly recommend Big Sioux state recreation area, great little park.
Yeah it is cool place
Have you all been to Buffalo Point in Yellville, AR? It’s gorgeous and less than 2 hours for our home.
Had a great trip several years ago ! Wall drug, Colorado Springs, a Cold War missile site, pikes peak, Carlsbad caverns, that mountain from the ufo movie (lol), great trip!
