It’s been a while since I’ve taken voice lessons, so once again thank you for the tutorial! I used the techniques to sing Graves Into Gardens in this video: th-cam.com/video/IC15u4_ALUU/w-d-xo.html
Awesome! I absolutely love your videos. Good on you for helping people strengthen their voices for the purpose of worshipping God. Do you know about planetshakers? They are a modern Christian band, sort of like elevation worship, or Hillsong, and they have beautiful worship songs. I’d love to see a tutorial on one of their songs, particularly as I have been trying to get some planetshakers music into my church, and bring some more life into my church, but no probs if you can’t. Even if you weren’t interested in doing a tutorial, I think that it’s worth checking out some of their new songs from the past few years anyway - “Right Now”, “God is on the Throne” “Can’t take my eyes off You”, “Take Your Place”, “Here’s my life” and “I remember” are some of my faves. Anyway, keep up the awesomeness 😁
Glad you're enjoying the training! I used to listen to Planetshakers all the time growing up, but haven't checked out their newer stuff yet, so I'll definitely have to do that!!
The Worship Vocalist Yes. They’re amazing. They almost have 2 seperate genres. The fast upbeat music, and then the slow reflective worship music, which is more my style honestly. I’m actually going to do a bachelor of ministry with a major in creative arts at planetshakers college, as I’d love to lead worship one day (that’s my dream job) or maybe get an advanced diploma of creative arts in ministry with a major in songwriting at c3 college, so that I can write worship songs myself when I finish school next year. At this stage my voice isn’t very pleasant, but your videos are really helping me to improve. Hopefully I’ll be able to get to a stage where I can sing well enough to sing at church or lead worship, or at least be good enough to write songs to sing for others so that they can sing in worship. I’m unsure at this stage, but you’re videos are really helping me to achieve a better sound and more control over my voice. Thank you for what you do.
Work on flexibility! I’ve got a lesson on building flexibility specifically for doing licks like that one, and an accompanying audio workout - check it out here: theworshipvocalist.com/masteryourvoice-26-the-art-of-embellishment/
Hi! I've only seen a few of your videos but God has used your teaching techniques to help me tremendously! I thank God and I thank you. I do have a request for you. I wanted to know if you could please do a video on an older song called "I am clean ,by Natalie Grant" the ending I am cleeeean...can be a little difficult lol😁 I hope you can please help. Thank you!
Hey Maria! So glad you're enjoying the training videos! My main priority is the newer contemporary songs that are being used for congregational worship, so I probably won't get to that one. But I would encourage you to check out my courses at www.theworshipvocalist.com - with the right exercises and training you'll be able to apply these same vocal techniques to whatever song you're having trouble with!
Should guys be stretching their range to sing this? And how would one choose the best key? Should the original key be considered? Presumably there's a difference between the "easiest" key and "best" key for a given song.
Hey! The original key of this song (or other songs!) works for some, but definitely not for all, so don't stretch/strain your voice if it doesn't feel right! You're very right - there's a difference between "easiest" key for my voice and "best" key. The easiest key will often sit too low for there to be much brightness/passion released, whereas a higher key that sits in a brighter, punchier tonal placement is best because it sounds more powerful and passionate! (Of course you can sing in ANY key with no passion on the inside... which of course we don't want!) Hopefully that makes sense!
Leading this one for the first time… actually first song I’ve ever lead and this is incredibly helpful!!!
Glad to help!

How can I do these since I don’t have talent with my voice
I’ve seen students with little to no talent improve so much by diligently doing vocal exercises!
