How to Sing "O Come To The Altar" (Elevation)

  • Do you ever feel like a song is just out of reach for your voice? You can push and muscle your way through and hit the notes… but barely… and it doesn’t always sound pretty. (Let’s just be real. Sunday morning is not the easiest time to sing high notes!)
    “O Come to the Altar” is one of those songs-in the original key, there are no low notes! It sounds glorious on the Elevation album (seriously… let’s just all agree that Chris Brown can SING!). But you go to sing it and you’re like... “Um… how does he do that?!” Guess what? I know his secrets, and you can too! Check out this song tutorial to learn how to eliminate vocal strain, sing on pitch, and add emotion and passion to your tone!

    It would be awesome if you do a voice tutorial for the song "Love Has a name"from jesus culture and kim walker...we sing this song in our church and it has a powerful voice and lyrics but it would be interesting to learn some tips for singing this song i've been practicing the song but I feel that my throat hurts right after I stop singing i want to learn how to sing it correctly and not literally scream the song😊

    Are you hurting and broken within?
    Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin?
    Jesus is calling
    Have you come to the end of yourself?
    Do you thirst for a drink from the well?
    Jesus is calling
    O come to the altar
    The Father's arms are open wide
    Forgiveness was bought with
    The precious blood of Jesus Christ
    Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
    Come today, there's no reason to wait
    Jesus is calling
    Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
    From the ashes, a new life is born
    Jesus is calling
    O come to the altar
    The Father's arms are open wide
    Forgiveness was bought with
    The precious blood of Jesus Christ
    Forgiveness was bought with
    The precious blood
    Oh, what a Savior
    Isn't He wonderful?
    Sing hallelujah, Christ is risen
    Bow down before Him
    For He is Lord of all
    Sing hallelujah, Christ is risen
    O come to the altar
    The Father's arms are open wide
    Forgiveness was bought with
    The precious blood of Jesus Christ
    O come to the altar
    The Father's arms are open wide
    Forgiveness was bought with
    The precious blood of Jesus Christ
    The Father's arms are open wide

    Love your channel, Charmaine! Your advice on phrasing, dynamics, and vocal texture are super helpful because I am often guilty of using the same loud, powerful tone for the entire song. I am amazed by your combination of vocal control, musicality, and emotion; you achieve that vocal variety without falling out of the pocket and imbue your singing with such an organic vulnerability at the same time. Goals!!!

    Hello! I find your videos so so helpful and when I am practicing along with you, it sounds great. However, it seems as though when I am just trying to sing the same song alone later on my own it doesn't have the same quality of tone as when I am practicing with the videos. Would you please be able to help me in this, also how I can take what you teach about particular songs and apply them to other ones that I am singing to improve my voice overall, not just for these songs, but any song that I am trying to sing!? I greatly appreciate your videos and I hope that you keep doing more. God has put worship on my heart but i have so much fear about being bold and singing. Your videos have helped me so much and have grown me, I practice every day with them. Thank you so much for all of your tips and help, my voice wouldn't be what it is without you. I have been so blessed by you. Please keep doing what you're doing.

      Hi Parker! The videos here on youtube are just a small sampling of my online resources at www.theworshipvocalist.com, which has training videos and vocal workouts to teach singers how to expand their range, strengthen their voice, hear and sing harmony for any worship song, etc. The best next step for you would be to sign up for a monthly subscription at the site and start learning from those videos!

    Bad advice on end consonants. Very lazy technique.

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends on what style/technique you are aiming for! If you're coming at it from a classical perspective, yes... bad advice, lazy technique. If you want to sing pop music, this is absolutely a valid and proven way to achieve the style and tone of contemporary Christian artists/worship leaders. :)

    • @StLukeLutheranChurchAA
      @StLukeLutheranChurchAA 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do understand what you're saying but I also believe many contemporary singers are very lax in their diction, too and can still achieve a pleasant sound even with proper enunciation. Pop music is really not the best standard to be basing coaching on. Way too many singers have "mush mouth" and you sometimes can't tell what they're saying. Thanks for the reply.

    • @worshipvocalist
      @worshipvocalist  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pop music is entirely subjective! Sounds amazing to some, terrible to others. You are definitely entitled to your opinion!
