I'm on day 4 of my news detox. I was watching several hours of conflict a day for over a year and finally decided to do some things about my headline anxiety. In an uncertain world we seek information to gain a sense of control, but it's only a fleeting illusion of control.
Keep it up! I’m on year 8 and it’s wonderful. I agree with your assessment that people think being up to the minute on top of the news gives them some control over the events or will allow them to prepare for them. I have to delete my internet history regularly because everything will try to use the algorithms to direct you back.
I'll admit, any time a story tries to tell me to feel bad about wanting to see what it advertised* I just get kinda annoyed with it. Like I didn't spend money on this to be insulted. The idea that the ending is like, an act of defiance makes me feel like it's treating me as an aggressor for expecting something it advertised itself as being willing to do. If you disapprove so much of this stuff, stop taking money from people who like it. *Assuming this film actually does that, that's the impression I get from the review.
