We can spend a lifetime researching their work and understanding their thought process in making a song. What we do instead is fight over trivial things online. Some of these Raja fans think they are musical geniuses themselves because they listen to a genius and think they are good enough to criticize someone like Rahman. Some Rahman fans, otoh, think that Rahman’s big award kitty is sufficient to belittle someone as great as Raja.
You can hardly see any Rahman fans bashing Raja...But these Raja fans behave like psychopaths when it comes to Rahman 😅

There are about 80 over Tamil radio stations worldwide and two third of these stations would be broadcasting only illayaraja's songs at anytime when tuned on.
I love ilayaraja and AR Rahman both. Both have given many precious gems.
ARR has also given great melodies like pachai kiligal, kadhal rojave, thamizha thamizha, kaiyil midhakum kanava nee, minnale nee, vennilave vennilave, kadhal kadidham, porkalam enge, udhaya udhaya, malargale malargale, poongatrile un swasathai, mayilirage, munbe vaa, innum konjam neram, enna solla pogirai, nenjinile, thaniye thannam thaniye..... many more.
No point arguing between both. Music is a ocean of the world and no matter how big. Ilayaraja and Rahman all Indian composers put together is only one sea. Music 🎶 encompasses so much that one person cannot dominate.

And ARR has given ofcourse some good music but all the music lovers and musicians if asked honestly, they naturally are telling IR. But for human, they say ARR. But we cannot mix professional and personal traits. I am hearing from many many directors thqt IR has done muaic Free of Cost many times. And he does it in a very short time which makes the director to encash the time. So IR has done more good to his directors and producers from financial point of view as well.
