  • While many companies are working on developing different kinds of battery solutions for the EV industry, NIO is doing something very interesting. NIO has developed its Battery Swapping technology and it just might just be the future of electric vehicles.

the beauty of BAAS is that you can choose to charge conventionally with plug in or swap battery. battery are upgradeable if damaged or if battery technology is improved. it is the future. so many benefits. well done NIO. all power to you.

400 batteries charged and available for swapping per station per day x 2300 stations in China = 920,000 swaps per day = 2.76M swaps per month available. If the average user has 2 swaps per month, then NIO could potentially service over 13.8M cars. Using the 80/20 rule. Take the 20, that's around 3M cars ... How many cars has NIO sold to date in China? Not even 1M, this power swapping network has massive capacity. Blue Sky Coming alright!

It’s interesting how the creators of these videos try to hide their biases but you can obviously see what direction he is leaning. The two arguments he states do not make sense . One is that it can service a limited amount of people , it states in the video that the new generation swap stations can serve over 400 swaps per day. How many charges can a charge station serve 🤔. The other argument is that a swap station takes up too much room. If the new generation swap station can compete 400 swaps imagine how many charging stations you will need to compete 400 charges. Each charge at 40 minutes per charge that is let’s say 30 per day , 30 goes into 400 approximately 12 times. 12 charging stations in a row. That is a lot of space needed. They are now up to 30 million swaps completed in China so there are a lot of people getting daily access to swap stations. Limited access my “Tush.”

Isn't it amazing that TESLA fan bois still pedal arguments against battery swapping when Elon knows its going to be the end of TESLA unless he adopts it Again. This video presents both sides in an unbiased informative narrative. Not one of your critical comments makes any sense to an educated view. It's not like all the batteries will charge from Zero at the same time. That's the big flaw in your calculations and being an ignoramus like the rest of Elons bum buddies, you choose not to open your eyes to what's coming. Silly really. 😂

IMHO battery swop EVs have a ready market providing for car rental companies. However, when a car owner has access to low-cost home charging BEV's may prevail. The big question is what will happen when FSD enables robotaxis. Battery swopping might have the edge provided they have no contact problems and runaway fire issues

    • @jimj2683
      @jimj2683 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Even with robotaxis there will be hours in the day when there is almost no demand. Then the ev can recharge itself.

The beautiful part is even if the car chassis is severely damaged, the battery remains intact as shown in crash test demonstration. You simply remove the battery and put it into another vehicle. Chassis modification for most manufacturers to accommodate is pretty easy, as the Nio CEO said, if they sell an extra 100k units of vehicles, they'll recoup the costs.

Yep, just pop in a handful of AAs….. The only downside is the cost of the extra batteries and the infrastructure to keep batteries charged.

VERY ELEGANT, VERY QUICK! AND COST EFFECTIVE 👍
Great solution when purchase your car as you don't need pay for costly battery, or when selling your car in the after-market! The main factor of low value of other EV cars in the after-market is risk of badly degraded battery of which replacement cost is astronomical. So NIO solution is very attractive.
The key questions are - is it price competitive? And does it actually work? The Chinese market gives the answer - this system is successful in China.
Also, this looks like great solution for big trucks. Elon's concept of high voltage charging seems dangerous... I have no doubts why Elon was negative.
This solution is also the most ECO of all - the quickest way to recover of valuable metals for reuse.
I wish this technology is the future of EV recharging (beside station / home recharging).

A solution for a problem that doesn't exist anymore. I only use Superchargers for road trips and I haven't spent more than 20 minutes at a Supercharger. Barely enough time for a bathroom break, get a snack, and stretch a little. Seemed like 5 minutes. But for my daily drive, I charge in my garage. Superchargers are very cheap to install and there are 21,000 in the US and growing at 4000/yr.

Realistically speaking, in the US that technology will be an uphill battle to bring and implement. Nothing that works for the masses (unless there is a significant profit for our American conglomerates) is easily adapted here. Thumps up for the obvious benefits of such technology, but aside from the government, there is also the masses of ignorants who will resist the wonderful convenience of only 5 min to recharge your car simply because it comes from China. As of most everything (electronic) used in the US doesn't come from China through US companies.

Nobody, and I mean nobody else in the EV industry is remotely interested in swap stations except NIO.
It's a dead technology as we move to 800v and 900v systems where charging is faster - each battery station costs as much to install as 12-16 superchargers and infinitely more to maintain.
NIO lost $400million and $600million USD in the Q2 and Q3 in 2023.
Each renter ends up paying 2 to 3 times the upfront cost of the battery in rentals over the lifetime of the car.

Who's paying for this only thinly disguised add for Nio? Battery-swapping for autos makes next to no sense for anyone with access to charging at their place of residence or anyone with access to a supercharger, let alone both, which is practically nobody.

What you said is partially true, but on the other hand, it's not entirely accurate. As the owner of Model Y, I used to feel extremely comfortable driving around the neighborhood on a daily basis. I didn't pay much attention to where the superchargers were, as I usually charged the car at home. However, after experiencing long trips three times a year, I realized how frustrating the charging time can be. During a 4-night, 5-day trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, I had to charge a total of 9 times, spending an average of about 30 minutes each time either in the car or at a convenience store. Every time this happened, I couldn't help but think how convenient it would be if I could simply replace the battery. Paying $7 for one time battery swap doesn't seem like a waste at all, considering the inconvenience of charging during a trip.
