    Our Story:
    We are four years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney
    Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled
    with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our
    pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden
    organically, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is
    to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living
    has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our
    journey!

    I hope you were able to get a good credit for accepting the damaged door. It’s interesting to see the additional steps taken for making the barn hurricane proof or at least minimizing potential damage from high winds 👍🏻. Great video Brad 👍🏻. Have a great week 🙋🏼‍♂️🙂👍🏻

    What a nice barn and shop! Bummer on the door. We installed our roll up doors ourselves and not knowing how they install, I accepted one without the wrapping on it. That made the “preloading” of the spring very difficult! Live and learn! Your whole building looks awesome!

      Thanks for watching Lucas. Builders don't want to install roll-ups or garage doors and I now see why...it's a bit more complicated and dangerous than it look. We got lucky to find Keith and his company. Take care.

      I hear you Gary, but I think God has a little more to worry about than Piney Grove's roll up door!! It's been a couple months now and I don't even notice the dent. Next week, we'll reveal the final product. B&D

    Always exciting, as well as interesting, watching the enclosure of a building - Can't wait for the animals to appear :-) so much for quality control with the door - disappointing - Thanks much for sharing....

    How did they mount the 2x6 to the bottom of the truss?

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's held by screws that go through the truss angle iron.

    How are the top plates attached to the steel trusses?

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It might show in this video: th-cam.com/video/IkBMM-n5UP4/w-d-xo.html
      But the wood 2x6s are held on the flat by screws through the angle iron of the truss.
      We metal framed the other end: th-cam.com/video/2NNQnPaPG7U/w-d-xo.html

    GREAT videos!! I’m getting ready to build a Barndo in FL to move my parents closer and your videos help answer a lot of questions I had.
    Can you provide where you purchased your windows from? I need Florida approved windows with Florida approval codes that are for wood frame like the windows you have, and can’t seem to find any at our local chain stores. Also I’m planning on using 2x10 for my ceiling joints. Do you happen to know the weight load? Lastly, can you provide close up of how you secured the 2x6 onto the metal trusses and how you secured the trusses to the steel cables?
    Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!!

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      Each county is going to have different codes (depending on FEMA wind map) and this was not built to "live in" but it's way overbuilt for a normal workshop or pole barn. 2x6 secured to the metal trusses by drilling holes through the angle iron for a screw to go in. If you want a detailed, to code, build of a FL Barndominium, search for Kelley's Country Life. He built one himself to FL code and has about 100 videos on the build. He's very detailed!

    How did they fasten the 2x6’s to the trusses’?

  • @jerrybowen1635
    @jerrybowen1635 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice. Two questions, how were the 2x6s attached to the truss and did they install a gasket between the footer and the sill plate?

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2x6 on flat was screwed in through the truss with the same screws that hold on the sheet metal -- they had to predrill first--the screw head is on top of the truss flare and screwed down into the board. They did the foam seal where the framing is 2x6, but not on the long wall where the framing is 2x4. I think I captured the foam going down in the first video of this series. All of this was in my requirements list to the contractor....they wouldn't have built it this way without my request. They felt it was all overkill. Thanks for watching. Brad&Deb

    How tall is the barn please?

    • @PineyGroveHomestead
      @PineyGroveHomestead  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's 12' from the eave down to the concrete. The workshop is 8' tall, so you can see how much higher the eave is above it. thanks for watching.
