    When I put the vinegar and water in the reservoir, I will actually hit "brew" as if making coffee. When a bit of the vinegar finally reaches my cup, I lift the lever so that it stops everything and now all the hot vinegar water is inside the internal tubing. I let it sit for 15. Then, I put the lever back down so it continues to brew and empty into my cup. Gives more time in the internal mechanisms to really remove the mineral deposits.

    The small cup that pops out and holds the coffee pods actually comes apart into two separate parts and should be separated to clean too. Just twist to turn and it unlocks. Also run a q-tip inside the cup to get between the ridges to removes the coffee grunge that builds up. :)

    Using water that has gone through a reverse osmosis filter system takes out much of the minerals that cause the scale buildup. Most groceries stores sell this water in bulk. We have found that there is no scale buildup on the Keurig as that is the only water we use. We do have to clean the parts of the machine where the coffee get processed and exits the machine. Nice video thanks for the advice.

It was suggested to get a can of compressed air and spray it into the vent that was pouring my water back into the reservoir . So I held the can very tight to fit the hole in the rubber vent and sprayed a few times . That loosened what ever was blocking the tubing and solved the problem ! Then I did the vinegar and water descaling to give the Keu

    An important note. It's essential that you allow the vinegar and water solution to sit INSIDE the Coffee maker for a minimum of 15 minutes prior to running another cycle. That does not mean the "Water Reservoir", but rather, the inside tank of the coffee maker that heats the water up. We have extremely hard water where we live, and the vinegar/water solution must stay inside the machine, on the heating element, for a minimum of 15 minutes before flushing the rest of the solution through. Allowing it to sit enables the vinegar to break down the deposits on the element and in the lines.

    I use a kitchen scrub buddy foam sponge with a handle (The one with the round head) to get the gunk out of the area under the cup you popped out at 3:51. That area gets filthy too. Small pipe cleaners or those tiny straw cleaning pipettes work in lieu of a paperclip. Also, don't forget to turn off the machine before you remove the water container from the machine. You run the risk of tripping the internal safety switch. I learned this from Keurig. Great video!

A slow process. I feel better sensing that the internal components are cleaner, but I couldn't detect any changes to that effect.

    • @AskAngelaBrown

      The secret is using bottled (or filtered) water in your Keurig for all your coffee. If you use tap water there tend to be traces of minerals, iron, sulfur, manganese, whatever is in your water where you live and that can cause a sediment build up that the vinegar will break down.

    The bottom of the water tank has a small valve that can get clogged. Remember to scrub it with the vinegar and press it up over the sink to see if it needs a paper clip to remove minerals. The one leading into the machine can also get dust or pet hair in it, which is why I use a pitcher to pour water into the reservoir instead of removing it to fill. There is also a bottom needle that pierces the cup which needs a paper clip cleaning

      Since the tank never fully empties, you should at least dump out the water if it has been sitting there a few days. Mine smells moldy if I don't do that. I have been to houses where they never ever remove the tank, and there is brown slime growing in the tank that affects the flavor of the coffee.

    You can put the machine in the sink sans the removable parts, lift the lid, spray everything down with 409 or equivalent, and rinse it off with the sink sprayer being careful not to get the LCD or touchscreen wet. works great and quick. Won't hurt electronics if you don't soak the screen.

    Very good video and easy to understand. But you forgot a thing: You unplugged the machine by pulling the cord. This could, with rime, break wires internally and eventually prevent the machine from working. If it breaks partially, the cord could overheat and cause a fire hazard. So, NEVER pull the cord. Pull the plug !

    If your WalMart or neighborhood grocery store has a water jug filling station, use the filtered water from there. I only use that water in my Keurig. My grandmother gave me her old (2yrs) Keurig about 6 years ago. She said it wasn't working right and my aunts bought her a new one. I brought it home and did what Angela just did in this video and I clean it but never have mineral build up. I do run vinegar through it about every six months. It is about 8 years now. And no signs of wearing out!

    my kurig seems to be blocked before it even gets near the end of the tubing. probably blocked at the start of the tubing as the clean water goes right back into the resevoir. how do i find the clog and clear it?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Marla, this is one of those times where I would contact the manufacturer. They would be able to pull up the exact model of your machine and give you specific advice so it's still under warranty. Lots of times the blocking of the clean water comes from mineral deposits that have built up - from using tap water, which is why we recommend using filtered or distilled water in the coffee - and cleaning.

      The big secret to a Keurig coffee machine that is virtually maintenance free - is to use filtered or distilled water in it. Once you remove the minerals from the water you don't have any sediment building up around the inner workings of the unit.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Straight cleaning vinegar is a pH of 2.5 so it's very acidic. Vinegar is to always be used in moderation and on a Keurig machine with plastic parts and rubber seals, a diluted version would be best.

    • @AskAngelaBrown

      The OXO Deep Cleaning Brushes amzn.to/333590D I use for everything. On a Keurig, I would use it to clean the floor of the water tray, the inside of the drip tray, and the inside of the cup or pod holder.

      What I had go do once, is I had to unplug it, take the water tank off, remove the coffee mug base too, and (this sounds strange, I know) I had to turn it upside down over my kitchen sink, and whack the bottom of the keurig like your spanking a babies bottom. It’s kind of heavy - be careful!! Whack it hard a few times.....run your water/vinegar mixture thru it. Sometimes there’s buildup that gets stuck in the hoses. I saw a video on youtube that suggested to do that. I was desperate to try anything and low and behold, it worked!!!! I got another couple years out of it! Hope it helps!!! Oh, I’m from Lansing, IL....southside chicago 💙

    Ok to flush 3-4 gals of water after each cycle I have to lift the handle and hit the 10oz cup portion and let it reheat after each flushing cycle. Is there an easier way?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The risk is that you still have soap - or a vinegar taste to your coffee if you don't thoroughly flush the system. Is there an easier way? Yes, use bottled or filtered water or a water filter on the coffee maker to make the coffee. This will remove any sediment from the tap water and you don't have to clean it as often. In homes where there are filters on the Keurig, we do a deep clean like this maybe once every other year. Just daily maintenance and wipe down. What triggers the deep clean is when the water doesn't come through the k-cups due to blockage.
