I think you can just "pick a Latouria" and know that it will be in bloom a long time, species or hybrid. Some will last longer than others, but they all go a minimum of 4 weeks. If mine ever blooms, Fire Wings is said to last 8 weeks easily so I'm keen to see. Now nobile hybrids here don't last more than 3 weeks. The days getting long and the temperatures rising tells it to stop blooming and start growing.

Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe! Agree... even though I do not have many, yes... latourias can all pretty much guarantee a long blooming cycle. 👍🏼 I hope your Fire Wings will get it's act together so that we can verify 😅 thank you so much for adding the lack of longevity of the blooms in your tropical warm / hot climate, I appreciate you for mentioning that if someone is growing in similar conditions and does not get the same long lasting bloom period! I also appreciate you for being here, for watching and all the support, amigo! Muchas gracias! I hope your weekend is off to a great start 🫶🏼❤️🌸

I have had C Dinard 'Blue Heaven' for four years this is the first year that it might bloom.
I have sheaths but, so far no signs of buds.
I grow under lights indoors in NYC.
    Temps run 24-27C
    Humidity 50-65%
Planted in a bark mix, soaked once a week with a Cal/Mag, Kelp, Fertilizer solution.

Hi Mike 😍💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, I think? 😅 either way... and just in case this is your first time commenting, welcome! Thank you so much for clicking on this video, I appreciate your time and your information as to how your Dinard is growing 👍🏼 I am going to keep my fingers crossed that your's will bloom this year. You have it in perfect conditions, so 🤞🏼 and if I may draw your attention to the buds, when the time comes, they sparkle as well. It is so beautiful watching the buds form ... they have a pixie dust sparkle to them. Love this orchid! Wishing you a wonderful day, Mike! 🫶🏼❤️🌸

🌸🥷🏼Samurai Nina San 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 thank you so much for your request... we have a few more in the works, but yes, I will add the sizes in the coming ones 🫶🏼 to fill in the blanks for the orchids mentioned in this video, here are the sizes:
Ansellias - grow pretty large, 80cm tall growths are not unusual and larger are possible, add the flower spike and the vigor of these orchids and you have XXL size. Lucky for me, they can hold on through my winters.
Asconcentrum - this is a medium sized vanda and it is a slow grower. I have had mine since 2018 and this is all it has done so far, but that is not to take away from how reliable it is when it comes to blooms.
Brassavolas - these are better researched depending on which one you might be interested but flagellaris get long growths, 60 cm is not uncommon, subulifolia is a medium sized one, the growths are upright, if grown in a pot, tuberculata has the capacity to grow 60cm long as well and perrinii is a medium sized one, however, the growths will not grow upright in a pot, instead pendant.
Fredclarkeara - Is only very very large when in active growth. The leaves 'wingspan' can easily be 80cm across, however, once the leaves are gone, very easy to accommodate while dormant.
Cattleya Dinard - this one is a large orchid with big structures, but the rhizome is not a rambling one, so it does not take up that much space, considering the size of the growths (up to 35 cm)
Iricolor - a medium sized orchid, the growths can get to 25cm or a little more, but at least they grow upright on a non rambling rhizome, which makes it a great pot grown candidate.
White Bridal - 25 cm tall growths, and a compact rhizome. Will grow several new growths staggered throughout the season, but at least they grow upright.
Coelogyne - leaves grow pendant and can get to 80cm long. Needs a lot of space just because of that and a little spacial awareness when the spike is growing.
Antennatum - Large sized dendrobium even without the spikes. 60cm tall growths are not uncommon. Because of it's vigor, it can be annoying to have to repot it every 2 years, so inorganic media is advised, in an oversized pot.
Berry 'Oda' - Large sized orchid with growths that can grow to 45 cm, not including spikes. Super vigorous but at least the growths at the base are nice and tight against the previous growth, so the orchid is not a rambler
Ceraula - small (not miniature) sized orchid that can be grown in a pot with the growths staked or allowed to remain pendant
Hibiki - medium sized, compact at the rhizome and can establish into a larger plant growth wise, not size wise, relatively quickly
Jairak Horn - Medium sized growths, no larger than 25 cm not including spikes. The spikes can double the height of the orchid. I consider this one a compact little one, similar to a smaller sized Dendrobium phalaenopsis
Kingianum - small to medium sized, with a compact growth habit at the base, pot culture will not create space issues
Lutin Blanc - Medium sized orchid that, if bought as a seedling, will take some time to get it's grow on. I had mine for 3 years, before it started to really perform and grow into blooming size. The base is compact, the growths grow nice and upright and can get to 35cm tall.
Neifert's Alexpoly - Large to very large structures. Can grow to 45 cm without spikes, and add spikes this orchid can stand 50cm tall.
Nobile NoID - mine has structures 45 cm tall, with a compact tight growth habit at the rhizome. But, as this is a complex hybrid, there are many different sizes on the market, and some can be much larger than mine is, up to 50 or 60 cm tall canes.
Roy Tokunaga - Medium to large compact at the rhizome orchid. Without spikes, approx 30 cm and with spikes 40-45cm.
Unicum - Mine grows canes 25cm long but I have seen them have 45 cm long canes, so, whether mine is still young or different culture yields different results, I have as yet to know if there are larger varieties out there. Grows pendant if left unstaked and does not have a rambling rhizome.
Victoriae-Reginae - 50 cm long canes, can be staked but it is best grown mounted because once canes start branching things get a little more complicated.
I hope this helps fill in the blanks 😘 and I hope that you had a wonderful day 🫶🏼 thank you so much for all your support here! I so appreciate the help 🙏🏼🥲 have a wonderful Friday, 🌸🥷🏼 Samurai Nina San 🫶🏼❤️🌸

    Hi Nina!
I very much enjoyed this video! I now have a new wishlist orchid, Den. Lutin Blanc. Sounds like an orchid I would like have in my collection.
My Den. antennatum bloomed for me in January of this year and the blooms lasted until early April. He was indoors at the time and my first orchid other than a Phal to bloom under my care. He did not have a scent that I could tell. He grerw like a mad man this summer with 6 new canes but not blooms. I am hoping he will bloom this winter after he gets moved back to the indoor grow space.
Thank you for the great video and I hope you have a great weekend!

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

HI Kyle 😍💐 Lutin Blanc is a cutie, indeed! I was pleasantly surprised by that orchid once she got her grow on. I received her as a tiny seedling and it took a while for her to get adjusted, but now... established and very very reliable. I think I have lost my antennatum as the pot cooked during the first Big Burn day on the patio. As it is a vigorous orchid, I am waiting for the time of year when it is supposed to start new growths, maybe I can salvage a section that starts a new growth and restart the orchid. I am glad that you are enjoying your antennatum. I enjoyed mine immensely and hopefully I got away with it and it will push a new growth somewhere 🤞🏼 I appreciate you adding your experience growing antennatum, here in the comments, thank you! I also appreciate you watching 🫶🏼 hope you are having a great weekend 🫶🏼❤️🌸

My favorites from this list are the Berry Oda (9:48), Den. ceraula (10:57), Den. Hibiki (12:01), Nobile Hybrids (17:05), and the Den. unicum (17:08). I guess Dendrobiums are my favorite? 🤔 I have the kingianum, Peng Sent, and Hibiki, but the Hibiki grows the best.
I bought my first two Psychopsis orchids on Monday. 🎉 It is the usual hybrid version, the Mendenhall so it has mottled leaves.
Alot of people seem to have problems with it after repotting, but I was told to wait for new roots in spring. It is currently potted in bark with a moss layer at the top. The pH for both are 6.0.
Neither one has a flower spike, but from what I've researched so far, they can last 8-10 years, whereas the flowers themselves can last about a month.
Today when I watered them, I decided to use a digital scale and both went up by 31grams (31000mg). I think this will be a safe way for me to figure out how long it takes for them to dry out.
When the time comes for repotting, I'm planning on putting them together in the same pot with the oldest bulbs back to back. Either that, or I'm going to experiment?

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  15 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

Hi Joe 😍💐 seems like you do have an affinity for dendrobiums OR, there were more dendrobiums featured in this episode than other genus 😅 I saw your video on the psychopsis and they are beautiful plants that you have there! Great additions! It is always best to wait for new roots, no matter the orchid, just to be on the safe side. Also know that, in your controlled grow conditions, the new roots may come sooner, so be on the lookout for that happening so that you can get into the repotting, or mounting without missing the mark 👍🏼 if you are trying to save space, then the same pot is a good way to do that. At least for the first 3 years, it should be good enough, until you see how well they grow for you and if you then want to separate them, you can still do that. Experiment? As in mounting one? ... they are very thirsty orchids, so just a head's up 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, Joe! I hope you are waking up to a great day 🫶🏼❤️🌸

      @@NinjaOrchids Paging Dr. Nina. 🏥👩‍⚕️
Found my first snail in an orchid pot today and it's my new Psychopsis!
I first noticed some blackening on the new pseudobulb where it connects to the others yesterday after removing a rotted leaf.
I filled it with cinnamon, but at night I noticed that a part of the bulb was missing so applied more cinnamon.
When I came home today, I found the snail munching on the bulb! 😧 I called the orchid nursery I bought it from and I was advised to water the pot with hydrogen peroxide or something with caffeine like black tea. Since I watered them yesterday, I was save to use the hydrogen peroxide and then I flushed with black tea. I later placed a couple pieces of lettuce on top, but I cannot repot them until there's new roots like a cattleya! 😫
The most crazy thing about this story is that the same snail was in one of the pictures I took yesterday! 🤯

    Dear Nee -nah !
The best revelation from your longevity show, is for me, Dendrobium Unicum ❤
    I didn't know, i didn't realize they are so floriferous .
    Let alone fragrant ❤
Conclusion, i must order one very soon!
As for brassavola. Some brassavola hybrids give a short show, however nodosa would bloom the longest.
Also my Encyvola Jairak Canary Bird bloomed a whole month 31 days for a single flower.
A mature plant might expect double ❓
Also brassavola b.c Yellow bird can easily last over 1 month.
Happy and LONG gardening joy to all. Share and care !
    P.s
I'm also growing under HOT 🔥 southern Mediterranean climate. But our side is humid all summer 70 to 80% humidity

💐Hi 😍 thank you for your feedback on this video, I appreciate your time and feedback 🫶🏼 I do not have a video specifically for that, but... would you please be so kind as to provide me with a lot more information so that we can troubleshoot together and I can give more targeted advice? Here is a form that I created which is multiple choice selection. With the information provided in this form, I can xray vision myself into your grow environment conditions and be more targeted with the advice I can provide... provided that there is anything at all the we can do to help your sesquipedale. forms.gle/dLGfAK7VytyMqQXE6 you can also add 5 images at the end of the form, this way I can see the orchid and fill in a lot more blanks. 👍🏼 looking forward to hearing from you and hopefully we can recover your orchid! In the meantime, I hope you are having a great day 🫶🏼❤️🌸

Great topic and very useful! I can add one: Cattleya trianaei, which lasted nearly 7 weeks under grow lights in my living room. Ancient in Cattleya terms!

😍Hi Kim 💐 thank you so much for your feedback on the video, I appreciate you letting me know and the time watching 🫶🏼 AND thank you so so much for adding your experience on a much sought after Cattleya! I had no idea that this amazing species would have such a long bloom duration 🙆🏼‍♀️ that is amazing!! Wow!! For cattleyas, that really is ancient, yes! I may need to think of getting one into my collection when the budget allows for some extravagance 😅 wishing you a wonderful weekend, lovely lady 🫶🏼❤️🌸

@@NinjaOrchids I'm a guy, but no worries and thank you. ☺ Your should definitely get a trianaei. Cattleya schroederae has a similar reputation for being very long lasting, but I only recently got a flowering sized one, and it hasn't bloomed for me yet. A lovely weekend to you too, and looking forward to the next in the series.

No... not at all... I grew up in Kenya with many guys called Kim, so it was weird for me to hear that in Europe or elsewhere, girls were called Kim. I completely forgot that. Same with Leigh. For me, it was usually a girl's name until I came to Europe and many guys were called Leigh. Sounds like I am profiling, ... ugh! 🙆🏼‍♀️ not my intention! Thank you for being understanding 🫶🏼

@@NinjaOrchids Hmm.. Might be. I'm not that talkative in general and tend to get carried away researching topics so might not even remember to comment. I'm sorry. Trying to write more comments to videos but might not be that diligent. =. =
The videos be shorts or long are very informative and offer great learning experience. Thank you.

Hello. Can you use seaweed once the orchid is in bloom or do you stop once they start blooming. Thank you 🙂🌸

😍Hi!! 💐 welcome! I have not seen you here before, so first of all, a warm warm welcome and secondly, thank YOU so much for watching, your comment and your time. I truly appreciate the support 🫶🏼 when using seaweed, the active growth of the orchid is the time to be using it, including roots. So, there are some orchids that start new growths and new roots while they are still in bloom. When orchids do that, then yes, keep giving those orchids in active growth seaweed, no matter if they have blooms or not. As long as there is active growth, seaweed is great 👍🏼 I apologize for the late reply and hope that my answer helped clear up your question. Let me know if my reply prompts more questions... because that can happen 🫶🏼 in the meantime, I wish you a wonderful day and once again, welcome ❤️🌸
