i think it's a really great idea to answer questions about the bike in the video. i've never seen any other bike reviewer do that, so thanks for that, RJ but if you REALLY want to start as a professional bike reviewer on youtube, there are some points you missed: -no titties on the thumbnail -video title not in all caps and something about pranks in the hood -no annoying voice -doing wheelies right in the middle of traffic -while complaining about car people not moving out of the way in the city for 1 second
+RoyalJordanian something that also occured to me is that you dont have an outro in your vids anymore. dat music. i really liked the 2013 one. for example, you could put the previous vids' highlights as thumbnails on the old outro.
Top review RJ, nice to include info on the real-world fuel range. For those interested, RJ got 118 miles on 10.18L, making it 52.7mpg average. I'd be happy with that!
I know you don't really do these types of videos, but it was really good and its a shame we won't get to see/hear more of it. I don't expect you to start testing bikes for youtube, but it would be nice to have a few more in this style :-)
"I'm gonna miss it, actually." Next video, RJ has adopted the 701. Gonna need a bigger garage. Loved the review, RJ. Everyone seems to. Definitely worth doing in the future, if you have the time. Cheers.
Enjoyed these more in depth reviews RJ thanks. You said at the start your not a magazines reviewer, and that your just a guy that rides bikes, I think that's who people like to hear from. An honest review from an experienced biker. Professional reviews have their place of course. Keep up the good work.
Really enjoyed this RJ. Mostly useful information that is actually relevant. I don't really care about exact weight/hp/torque but I like to know the practicalities of a bike and how it makes one feel. Also, enjoyed the humour! There's an element of Top Gear about it. "But what colour is the key?"
Hi RJ i am from INDIA, big fan of yours :D i believe mahindra MOJO 300 has a good exhaust note with factory exhaust only !! there is an option for with and without DB, with DB it sucks, but without DB killers, it very nice :D
I totally agree with you RJ the sound of a bike is all about the experience of the ride even on idle. That idle sound would put me off. Cracking video as usual your are turning me into a Husqvarna fan.
I absolutely love supermoto bikes, it's their design and weight that leaves me in awe. I really wish to own one of these Husqvarna sometime soon, as I don't have that kind of money right now because I just passed my Engineering final semester.
Completely agree. I bought a 701 to commute on daily. What a pleasure. I've added an Akra slip on (690 SMC version), changed the mirrors (I might still get those Rizoma's you have on yours though - very nice) and take the rear mudguard off.
Hi RJ, I really enjoy your videos... from a Canadian perspective your filtering is terrifying and fascinating (illegal here, sadly). I do appreciate your in-depth review, your opinion carries some weight with me as I use my bikes for every day transport as well, all year. If it's good in your view, it will probably be amazing to me (I like light, narrow torquey bikes for traffic as well). Thanks!
I bought the 701 late last summer and I absolutely love it. In the process of making some videos with it, though now the winter has it trapped in the garage.
3 hours on without discomfort is outstanding for any motorcycle, even more for a supermoto. Maybe I just haven't had the pleasure of truly comfortable bike seat, but it seems like more often than not, if you aren't looking at touring bikes, seat comfort is not a high priority for designers.
RJ's Point about the tach or rev counter is very true. I ride a CBF 125 and it has a Speedometer and a Fuel Gauge, no rev counter. I Change gear by feel and only check my speedo if it's a sunny day ;)
'Maybe he likes to see it take it from the back.' LOL! Interested in in-depth reviews?! With your enduro experience and apparent decades on bikes (guessing you raced enduros on bikes like your Yamahas), not to mention all the tours in so many countries on sometimes different bikes, and most importantly to me, your intelligent, mature approach to bikes and riding, I think any info from you is quite valuable. Evidently Husky thinks so too. I expect you'll get more bikes to review in the future. Would like to have heard your report on the other two riding modes. Keep up the great work!
"He likes to see it take it from the back." ;) lol And I totally heard "Just two samurais" instead of "Just to summarize." Love your work RJ. We will miss the 701
RJ could you please do a comparison between Husqvarna 701 and Ktm 690 smc r? which one do you prefer? I want to buy one of them but I'm very confused. Thanks
I like this bike and this long reviews... I think you should do reviews like this on all your bikes. You covered everything important about the bike and it is good. Like it ;)
I recently test rode one of these.. aswell as the Nuda 900... Great little bike, never been on motard before. Way too much kit for me. I have nothing to compare to, but I really agree that you can ride one of these "every day". Connecting with the big, it is a heap of fun. All rounder for sure :) Love your work RJ
Great review RJ! Really informative and helpful. I have recently purchased a 690 Duke and completely agree in relation to the "rattly" engine at idle but its strangely one of the reasons why I bought the bike; for me it just gives it so much character. Would definitely like to see more in depth reviews in the future, keep up the good work brother!
The engine rattle is from the counterbalance shaft, they could make it smoother at idle but then it would rattle at high RPM I think it's just a characteristic of the old rotax engine tbh (i know its KTM but they stole their engineers from Rotax when they built the LC4), does the engine have a counter balance shaft adjuster? being a single cylinder engine it has a 360 degree crank, to stop extreme rattle at high RPM they use a weighted gear or shaft to keep the engines momentum, its weighted to be best for the most used RPM I suppose, but that makes it chug a bit on idle as its an unbalanced weight, If the bike has a counterbalance shaft adjuster you can tune that out fairly easy, but obviously then you have the rattle at higher RPM where I'm sure it's be unbearable. But anyone buying a single cylinder knows to expect rattle :D
+RoyalJordanian The cylinder bore on the two bikes is only 1mm difference, but the 701 has a much bigger stroke, 84.5mm compared to 59.6mm on the 511, The further the piston has to travel the more pronounced it becomes, there is a long winded explanation for why but I won't go into that, lol. But basically its the transfer of energy from the piston to the crank, the longer the stroke and fewer the pistons (bigger gaps between power strokes) the more the pendulum effect you notice. So long stroke single cylinders rattle like hell, but short stroke v12s are silky smooth :D God now everyone knows how uncool I am, lol. Basically the extra 25mm makes all the difference.
+The Mighty Dash Not uncool at all, that was very informative and much appreciated. I'll probably never forget you little explanation actually. Cheers :)
+KenmeriCaptain It's cool no worries I find all this stuff very interesting, The thing that gets me is that its a 4 stroke 1 cylinder, it takes 720 degrees of crank rotation to complete the 4 stroke cycle and 180 degrees of that is the power stroke... meaning 75% of the time the engine is producing no power at all. It gets even more interesting when talking about the Nuda, the BMW f800 engine it's based on has a 0 degree crank with 360 degree firing which means both pistons are in the same pistons but they do not fire at the same time so out of the suck/squeeze/bang/blow positions one cylinder is on suck when the next is on bang, because both cylinders move together the engine would rattle like hell, so it has a 3rd con rod that effectively connects to a damper in the bottom of the engine to keep it all smooth like a 3rd slave cylinder, where as the Nuda has a 270 degree crank (my bad it's 315 degree on the nuda) so the engine pulses which gives it the V-twin characteristics and can rev up faster as not all the weight is in one place in the engine at the same time... I've bored everyone to sleep haven't I.
That was a great review, RJ! I'm still looking for my first bike, and can't quite decide to pick a Naked or a Supermoto... But you really help me out here!
Thanks, a good review. I agree with you on the "riding selection" issue. My gosh who ever thought that design apparently does not Ride. The selection dial should be accessible without removing the seat. If one is riding and runs into road conditions that change, you would have to remove the seat etc. I think that issue would influence me not to buy the Bike. Of course that is just me.
Look forward to your 511 comparison. I've got a 511 and am thinking of changing to the 701 . 10000 miles commuting on the SMR511 has been a mixture of fun and pain!
I bought myself one of these last week and it's an amazing bike! The mirrors are useless though. RJ, I'm looking at picking up some Rizoma mirrors, what connector did you use to fit them?
Hey RoyalJordan! What would you choose if you for the rest of your life only could have 1 bike for all purposes? ONE bike that you would use for everything!
1:52 - The Yamaha wr250r stock muffler sounds great to me. I was going to pull the trigger on the 701 (enduro). But then i read about owners having problems with the transmission (getting false neutrals). The stock pipe burning the rear signals, other and other issues. These may seem minor, but in my opinion, it's not something that should be happening with a premium priced bike. If they work out the issues and are still are making this bike in 2017 or 2018, i'll check it out then.
I like the WR/SMS 125/250 + Plastics more! They look way cooler and the design of the back plastic looks amazing, I dont really like the looks of these plastics compared to the ones i mentioned, especially the headlight
Would you recommend a bike like this for someone who came from Superbike (R6/899) -> Standard (M821)? The positioning seems vastly different from the two.
RJ would you ever do a begginer bike riding series? Gear shifting, weight distribution when turning (tarmac/off road) I'd love to hear some tips from you.
Its primary design to be a dirt bike with road tires to be supermoto. Advantages are its light & has good torque ...but the downside is (that seat cannot be considered comfortable )

+MTP 1337 OK, I'll at least try and have some tits in the thumbnail next time ;)
+RoyalJordanian please do XD
+RoyalJordanian your the man RJ I love this video one of the best so far keep it up.
+RoyalJordanian
something that also occured to me is that you dont have an outro in your vids anymore. dat music.
i really liked the 2013 one. for example, you could put the previous vids' highlights as thumbnails on the old outro.
probably his favorite candy will be in the thumbmail named -jellyboobs :p
"Average mile per hour - 38... Oh God. " - you have made my day :D

He's indeed the only guy I'd trust for bike reviews. Also, there's no ads, sponsor times, etc.great.
You should get the bike for free because I'm sure you make the name of Husqvarna a lot more popular.
couldnt agree more. i didnt know what hus...!:£2 was a bike company but there dead so yh
Well, all the 701 videos combined are one of the best bike reviews I have ever seen. Thank you!
Jure Florjanč
Thank you RJ for this review. Made me look at one and yesterday I bought one.
"I'm gonna miss it, actually." Next video, RJ has adopted the 701. Gonna need a bigger garage.
Loved the review, RJ. Everyone seems to. Definitely worth doing in the future, if you have the time.
Cheers.
Proper bike review regarding the mirrors. Straight up useless - throw them in the bin. Great honest talk needs to be adopted by other reviewers.
Enjoyed these more in depth reviews RJ thanks. You said at the start your not a magazines reviewer, and that your just a guy that rides bikes, I think that's who people like to hear from. An honest review from an experienced biker. Professional reviews have their place of course. Keep up the good work.
I think this is the first "in depth" review I have seen on a 701. I'm about to purchase a 701 Enduro version and this was very helpful. Thank you.
were slowly getting more rj personality in recent times, i love it.
Thank you for taking the time to do this
You should test the latest version of Duke 690R.
Well done, RJ ! I guess you covered most if not all of the questions. Thanks for your time and effort.

Thanks for a great in-depth review RJ. I would love to see more reviews like this!
It sure is interesting looking. I like it , would make a bad ass hooligan wheelie machine :)
RJ, let's face it you're in love with it!
A good honest in depth and unbiased review, just what a review should be, but seldom is!! Ride Safe.
Haha RJ throwing edgy jokes and shouting.
right! don't see this side of RJ too often, what a treat lol
Exactly.
I really enjoyed this review, I had not noticed that the mouth of the vessel installation was behind
Wait so anyone on the street can take ur seat off with no instruments? 0_o
I totally agree with you RJ the sound of a bike is all about the experience of the ride even on idle. That idle sound would put me off. Cracking video as usual your are turning me into a Husqvarna fan.

Excellent video. I love your style and slight sarcasm when necessary! Great video!

So you use about 6.5l/100km??

You can hear a bit of a cockney accent creeping in. Keep the vids coming, always enjoy them.
Great, thorough, honest review!
appreciate your time and honesty... the rattle is something I would be a bit allergic to as well...

good review RJ!
You're becoming a proper motovlogger now RJ ;)
That was a great review, RJ! I'm still looking for my first bike, and can't quite decide to pick a Naked or a Supermoto... But you really help me out here!
Excellent review. Will have to check this bike out.
Looking forward to the comparison.
That moment when you open 4 videos in different tabs and the intro sounds start.
very nice RJ very good review of the Husqvarna 701

07:36 Aventador revving?
Excellent review! I'm in love with this bike
Look forward to your 511 comparison.
I've got a 511 and am thinking of changing to the 701 .
10000 miles commuting on the SMR511 has been a mixture of fun and pain!
+Hill Douglas For me, the 511 is not a "commuting" bike, the 701 does it perfectly.
I totally agree, it broke me.
I'd love to see a motovlogger like you review a bike that you can drive with an A1 license
I bought myself one of these last week and it's an amazing bike! The mirrors are useless though.
RJ, I'm looking at picking up some Rizoma mirrors, what connector did you use to fit them?
+spammachine Rizoma adaptor BS711B (B for black).
+RoyalJordanian Thanks! Just ordered a set of the 4Ds.
Damn you should had waited, now with the KTM 690 DUKE R's engine in the 2017 model.
Yeah, that sucks. The 2016 model is still a great bike, though.
Niklas Svanberg yes it has more horsepower, but I heard that its not as aggressive as this old motor:(
very Nice review. I think its one of your best videos.
Hey RoyalJordan!
What would you choose if you for the rest of your life only could have 1 bike for all purposes? ONE bike that you would use for everything!
I admire the looks of this bike. Would this bike be too much for someone who has not rode before? I am 5’11”
any idea where there "modes" adjustment is on a 2017 ? 14:40 it's not there on mine.
1:52 - The Yamaha wr250r stock muffler sounds great to me.
I was going to pull the trigger on the 701 (enduro). But then i read about owners having problems with the transmission (getting false neutrals). I like the WR/SMS 125/250 + Plastics more! They look way cooler and the design of the back plastic looks amazing, I dont really like the looks of these plastics compared to the ones i mentioned, especially the headlight
+Frederik S. The SMR 511 is another example of a bike that has amazing looks!
I think there's a small baffle behind the fuel pour spout. I saw a guy take one of these apart when i was in for a few parts at my local moto spot.
maybe you could do a few of these videos where you test bikes people are interested in? just mix it up maybe do supermotos superbikes or 125s
I NEED to ride one bad!
Do a rev battle between the two supermoto. Will you ever buy it?
The plate bracket is awesome....
Would you recommend a bike like this for someone who came from Superbike (R6/899) -> Standard (M821)? The positioning seems vastly different from the two.
dude, change the end can and you will like the sound and idle. it also makes the bike more responsive.
RJ, is your helmet visor road legal, and what do you wear at night?
RJ would you ever do a begginer bike riding series? Gear shifting, weight distribution when turning (tarmac/off road) I'd love to hear some tips from you.
+0w3ll97 Highly doubt it as I don't like to preach.
Would you advise to buy a KTM SMC-R or a Husqvarna 701 this summer?
Great Looking Bike !!!
8:00 Cheeky RJ ;)
not a fan of that ride mode change under the seat doh...
Well Done,
thx for Share !!!
This was an excellent video, thank you.
cheers
tony
Doesn't the 701 have a composite subframe compared to steel on the 690?
Its primary design to be a dirt bike with road tires to be supermoto. Advantages are its light & has good torque ...but the downside is (that seat cannot be considered comfortable )
Maybe I missed it but what are the mirrors you're running now?
Does it have rear foot pegs? Is it fuel injected? Couldn't seem to find either on Husqvarna's website.
You can buy a riding mode adjuster on the handlebars (KTM part) sure this will fit a Husky as well.
it's weird seeing RJ's shadow without the helmet
can you use the launch control so I can see how it handles taking off
Please try a xt660x :)
Great review!! Now would you stay that if piped and dyno tuned it would be a beast!
Have you ridden an Aprilia SXV and how does it compare
many thanks for all this sharing, I appreciate
You should try out the 2017+ version, new engine etc.
would this be a good starter bike for a new Street rider? I have experience with 450s in dirt.
When the YT algorithm making recos does good #greatvid
I have heard the 17 model is way upgraded. Be interested to hear your thoughts on the new one. I cant even find one to buy none the less test ride in the states
I have the 17 701 enduro and it's insane lol
