Mr. Jake is a legend. You went through adversity nobody else understands which makes you the cream of the crop as it pertains to the seal teams. That extra layer of adversity turned you into a diamond and an incredible mentor. Every time you help someone become successful you get revenge for what those people did to you.

Bad leadership- while in Iraqi I faced direct racism and I handled the situation wrong. I threatened, fought and ended up with a Field Grade article 15. 45 days of extra duty and a distaste that last still this day. I wanted to fight at the highest level and I was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.
I wish I could’ve have better leadership and just honest leadership

Respect to you for being an Blk officer in the seals. I can only imagine how much you had to endure on many fronts. Respect 🙏🏽

      @@jakezweig I really like what you're doing,too!
I wonder, have you thought about writing a book about your experiences?
And also,I'd love to see guys like Jocko Willink,Mike Ritland,Jack Carr and Andy Stumpf have you on their podcasts!
I think that it's very important to have these kinds of conversations about diversity and about racism in the military.
I'd been thinking about joining the military for a while now but I'm not sure I really want to anymore.I'm starting to think that I might be better off going and doing something else.
I've had regular civilian jobs where I experienced pretty bad racism(it never got to the point where anyone ever called me The N-Word because if it had,I would've kicked their ass and quit on the spot) so I can only imagine what it would be like in the military.

I guess things were a bit different than the movie 'Act of Valor' where everybody respects everybody. This is the first time something like this has come up about racism in the community as it's not talked about publicly. Thanks for sharing, it takes someone to talk about it openly to get that sort of discussion going and how to change.

A diver in high school. An E6 intelligence officer while in the Navy I was advised to not apply for the Navy seals program by a black officer. He said , "they'll send you to all minority countries cause your black". I had just returned from Panama "operation just cause 89'". I witnessed and experienced racism from guys that were clearly not at my level of intellect. I witnessed individuals cheating on test and instructors cheating for them time/trials. Hispanic/ Caucasians both cheating for themselves and their people. Needless to say I didn't apply.

Not justifying any of the ignorance by any means, but what's with being stationed in "minority countries"? American service members are technically minorities in any country they're stationed in besides the states. Even if you do have the same skin tone as the majority. I never served, but I've had some great times and met some amazing people in so-called minority countries ✌️♥️

Aye bro just stumbled upon this and I wanna say you asked these questions smoothly and very thoughtfully man.
I think the lack of AA in spec ops is really due to older generations either shunning military service, or serving and not talking about it.
I myself served 5years in the army. Grew up a country Arkansas kid knowing I wanted to be in the military outside all that. My mom served in DS before I was born, NEVER talked about it ptsd etc. only my pops told me why she ultimately didn’t want me to join the army.

I hear what you are saying, Brother. About laying low and being "quiet". But I have to disagree. I wound up with that "bad guy" tag. in the USMC And it cost me.
    Lost rank.
Transferred from a Mar-Det to a "Grunt" company.
    UCMJ
    A little brig time.
    And some "coins" too.
But...I kicked the shit out of a couple of "chucks" from Georgia and Texas. And I would gladly do it
again. I could have. Maybe I should have. But I didn't go quietly. And to be fair and truthful "they"
gave me the opportunity to do that. but I just couldn't ....Brah. Those "chucks" got on my left nerve.
And I thought...I just had to have that "Pay Back". For me...the price was just the price.
But I will tell you what I learned and what I noticed. Its hard being the only fly in all that buttermilk.
Because no matter where you turn, the whole system is buttermilk. But when you get some "numbers"
That all changes. For example In the unit I went to I was part of the PHILLY SQUAD. A group of dudes
from...PHILLY. And we could all bang. One of our guys was the heavyweight champ. And you know what?? A whole lot of that "chuck chatter" was null and void.
    ..with the QUICKNESS.

It's a damn shame that these ignorant attitudes still exist in our military. If anything, the SF community should be using our nations diversity as an asset when working with our allies. That ignorance can get people killed.. My Grandpa was in Vietnam (SF qualified) he talked about about the racial tension while there with line infantry. My grandfather has always been accepting of different cultures, he has a masters in theoretical linguistics and has taught all over the world (mainly iran and saudi). He even taught at the DLI for a little while.
