If you think some fit and finish plus a 0.5-1.5 second advantage is worth £20-50k we’ll just have to agree to disagree.
Of course, Japanese cars will always prevail, as German cars belong in a scrapyard. Additionally, Toyota and Honda produce the most reliable and fuel-efficient engines of all time-even a hybrid cannot surpass the Honda Civic.

All 3 cars are seriously impressive to be honest. But for me, the humble Civic is the best. It's way more affordable and almost surely way, way more reliable and cheaper to maintain. And most importantly, it's a manual!
The Civic is One fine machine. Given the much less bhp and fwd shows that the chassis is a absolute masterpiece. A clear winner for me regarding price, performance, usability and reliability.

The japanese are just clever and the Honda is just impressive on its own being able to race and perform against two completly different systems, powers and pricetags that would seem to give ALOT of advantage. I think the fact that we are comparing the type r to a vehicle totally out of its league (in price) just shows how much of a great car for the price the Type R is.
I think what this shows you is just how finally balanced a lot of these new hot hatches are. The I30N, Megane RS and Type R to name a few. And that’s before you go and start modifying them for some extra fun! It’s not a bad time to be a car enthusiast, that’s for sure.
Interesting comparison, certainly shows the immense capabilities of all of the cars. Would be interested to see how the FK8 Limited Edition compares to the A45s and the new Golf R.
Except that I would take it on! You need bigger balls to drive that M3 to the limit than in a hot hatch and your average Johnny Liftoff won’t know where the hot hatch had gone through the twisties.
What i take from this video is, that i now have a reason to like that the new M3 excists. Parked besides the new M3, the Civic Type R doesn't look quite as ugly. It's not much, but it's something.

That is irrelevant. First, you are not paying for a laptime. Second, this is a very short track and it cannot use it's extra power. On other tracks the difference will be more. BMW said it is faster than the M4 GTS on the nurburgring.
I love Steve Sutcliffe he’s excellent at reviewing cars. Didn’t see him for a while and in the few vids he did he didn’t seem well. Glad to see him back to his old self and great videos.
If the comparison is already good, Steve just elevates even further making you thing about the real potential on The New M3 competition, because those two are the best in their class. That's pretty astonishing for a car with that kerb weight, the electronics do magic things in nowadays.

TYPE R IS AWESOME. with a 2.0 engine size its not that behind from these 2 german cars. Imagine if Honda put their 3.0 engine in the Type R lol.. it'll be definitely the winner. Type R is more impressive to me.
The Merc has the same capacity engine. And I suspect if they fitted a larger engine in the Civic they'd destroy its balance (and would need to go AWD, which would increase the weight even further). I think it's fine as it is...

That can fit in the type r, they just have to make some adjustments on the body or maybe none at all. Honda engineers always come up with almost impossible things all the time. My point is if Honda really would want to destroy their competitions they could...but they care about affordability so thats what they do.

Great to see these track reviews, especially considering the horrible lockdown measures. I just wish you would mention what tires each car came equipped with, it can make a huge difference as you well know. PS: I love, love the Civic. Wish it were rear driven but still love it.
I just wish the bmw drivers could actually push it fast or have the confidence to do so. I also wonder if you accidentally put it in drift mode since the new cars drift mode works same as the old launch mode but for me it’s all about how I come into and out of a turn that determines how tail happy it gets

It's a shame BMW went backwards with weight. The F30 3 series, they aimed for 1500kg, and pretty much hit it depending on the engine and spec. Now we're up at 1800kg!! Damn! I don't think the old V8 M3 was that heavy except in convertible form.

That is totally relative. If you also care about how a car looks, the Civic is incredible ugly. Therefore if you ask me, it is too expensive for sure.
