Hi Everyone, please note I made a slight mistake in the video! Apple Intelligence features are only compatible from *iPhone 15 Pro* or newer not iPhone 15 or newer like what I said. Apple for the first time last year introduced two new chipsets on one phone launch. So iPhones that have the A17 Pro chip or newer are capable of Apple Intelligence features which is 15 Pro or newer. Read more here: www.apple.com/uk/apple-intelligence/
I wouldn't worry about it. Apple and intelligence aren't exactly synonymous in my book. The iPhone is still a stupid monoglot that can only handle one language at a time. Utterly useless for those of us who need the iPhone (or any device with any operating system for that matter) to be able to handle at least 3 languages that we use in our daily lives. I'm not talking about keyboards and the ability for the operator to input and I'm not talking about setting the iPhone to a specific language. Siri can't even handle non-English names in your address book and when you normally pronounce those names correctly without thinking about it, trying to imagine how Siri wants you to say it in a different language is not an easy thing to do. I.e., impossible. Nope, Siri is a monoglot. It is a French monoglot, a Spanish monoglot, an English monoglot and a Japanese monoglot. Siri needs to learn how to become bilingual if not trilingual at least.
Thanks for the great video! I think that the AI feature is delayed until IOS 18.1 or another subsequent update, at least for the iPhone 15 ProMax. I just downloaded IOS 18 and there is no AI option to select in the menus. I googled it and saw the article by Apple stating what I stated previously in this post. Again, thanks for the great video!
@TheRiddler_1 Apple are doing something a bit different this year (very strange for them) but they’re doing a staged rollout so the new Siri will be iOS 18.1 and in selected countries.
Last I heard about Apple CarPlay and Android Auto was that car manufacturers wanted to get away from either of those being so popular in their vehicles. They don't want to feel restricted in requiring it in every vehicle. Which I can understand, but I'm also in that group that I really don't think I'd buy any car that does not come with Apple CarPlay at this point.
Agree with this! If a car does not have CarPlay, it is a yellow flag for me and is highlighted in a car review. However there is one brand I’m happy to name that does this but aces their multimedia system and that is Tesla. It some instances it is better than CarPlay due to the more graphical interface. However I’d still rather have the option of Caraplay. As I’m deep in the Apple Eco System, jumping in any car and having everything just ready to do is brilliant. - My entire Apple Music library (downloaded offline) - Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze (which ever one I feel like using) - My podcasts (downloaded offline) - The ability to reply to texts should I need to - Calendar integration with Apple Maps It’s all brilliant, so yeah long story long. I love Apple CarPlay.
I guess car manufacturers have to pay for the privilege of CarPlay or A.Auto. That’s why they want to back away. So it all adds up in the costs and then profits of a single car. iPhone costs 1/20 of a car lol They are definitely charging for CarPlay integration but don’t hold me to that. Anyone else know for sure?
@@npolearyOne US manufacturer is working on phasing out CarPlay, in lieu of their android-based infotainment system, which depends on the in-car wireless connection… which is a fee-based service. That might be ok for some, but I’ve had some in-car apps fail to work properly even while they work perfectly on CarPlay. I’ve already been through this years ago with Infiniti. They promised an advanced infotainment system with a purportedly growing list of apps and features that never materialized.
Agree My 2023 corolla has those built in features. You can even wind down the window or turn on the wipers with "hey Toyota". But it gets it wrong A LOT!. Siri is much better. Love CARPLAY
Car manufacturers have proven over and over again that they can't manage map and other "info" systems in a user-valuable way. They are lame, slow, under-featured, expensive, not-updated, lacklustre in performance. They are usually rent based too.
Not a criticism towards you, as I’m an Apple user to the max too. But we’re all going to look back at this cringy moment where we tried to get excited about that one new boring wallpaper.
Well yeah it would be good if there were more CarPlay features. Custom wallpapers would be amazing and just allowing us to do a little more than the restrictive layout. Dark mode is a small subtle change that users could benefit from (like the dark icons on iOS 18). What would you like Apple to bring to CarPlay? I’m itching to see the next gen one!
On another note, there are so many driver distraction laws and regulations that many of these companies (Apple and Google) included have to abide by. Because of this they are very conservative with car features due to the liability of driver distraction unfortunately
This ☝️ Very true, I remember reading Apple CarPlay Developer notes and what developers have to do to get an app “approved” and it’s a minefield. Button placement, number of steps to get to a thing, and in some instances colours used!
Of course! There is only the correct way! I’ve not covered Porsche before on my TH-cam channel but I could potentially if enough people wanted me to! 😎
Just a lil note on the hearing feature: It's not necessarily about not hearing a siren at all, it's about noticing it earlier when it's nearing you. Someone with perfect hearing hears the siren sooner, which of course helps reacting to it (getting out of the way, slowing down etc.). If your hearing is impaired, you might still hear the siren at some point, but it's sure helpful to see it on screen before you actually hear it. If it can get people to move out of the space where an ambulance needs to pass through more quickly, it might actually save some lives. (Also, some cars let much less sound through from the outside, some people have their music on max volume constantly etc.)
Sadly not all cars can do full screen CarPlay. There are other manufacturers who have come across the same before. For Mercedes it’s a common question which I’ve answered on my FAQ series here: th-cam.com/video/N9x56XWdjIo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mlzuNGtciSlsdcdb&t=537 Basically it’s because MBUX (also known as NTG 6) on Mercedes is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing & coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything. So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen. NTG 7 found in some new cars have higher faster processors and have one screen size leading to a full screen experience on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!
@@npoleary Hey Nick, I have a Class A 180 equipped with a 10.25” screen, but I don't have the option to choose the screen size on CarPlay. I was wondering if you've "hacked" the system to make this possible. Thank you so much, and congratulations again on the great work you've been doing here.
Thank you for telling us what features aren’t available on our older phones! Some other TH-cam channels cater to the newest model(s), and I have to Google why I can’t find a selection, etc.
Haha 😅 I think they’re putting all of their efforts into next gen CarPlay. But some car manufacturers are reluctant to do it for some reason 😕 Or they’re being very slow about it!
I updated to IOS18 on my Iphone 15 Pro Max and have all sorts of problems now 🤯 email accounts are not working anymore, and Google maps sound goes down whenever it wants and I’m not able to change it. I hope there will be an update soon to fix that.
So, in reality, there aren't any real updates to Apple CarPlay. It's probably a blessing in disguise as the infotainment system on the car will also likely need to be updated to keep up and for a lot of us, that means a trip to the dealership who will happily charge for the pleasure of doing it. For those who are fortunate to have firmware updates over the air, then you are the lucky ones.
People crapping on this but let's not forget that these are not even necessary updates, probably just them cleaning it up and testing it because once they finish it they won't be updating it anymore. Reason being is because CarPlay 2.0 is coming soon and will fix literally everything we didn't like about current CarPlay. It will be the ultimate customizable UI in a vehicle ever and will work seamlessly with your iPhone and the vehicle as well. At least this is something cool to enjoy until next gen carplay 2.0. Which supposedly is releasing this year
I wish that were true, I have searched high and low with car manufacturers for this next gen CarPlay. I’m desperately trying to be the first to get a video on it. Apple announced it 2-3 years ago, however Porsche and Aston Martin said this year (2024) it would be in at least one of their cars. I’ve tried contacting both but neither know anything about it yet. When this does come out, it will not work on existing cars though, it’ll only be on cars made for that point onwards. And Apple are trying to do their best to convince car manufacturers to adopt it. I want it…that’s all I’m saying as it looks awesome! 🙌
@@npoleary Well yeah it needs special hardware so ofc current cars won't have it but it's only a matter of time. While manufacturers need to adopt it, Apple needs to finish it. It appears as though they aren't done yet, we will see it soon enough I am confident. WWDC 2025 will probably hear something
Thought I recognised that car park!! I think the big problem for CarPlay and Android Auto is actually EV's. What do I mean by that? A key part of getting the best out of an EV is it needs to know when you want to charge so that it can pre-condition the battery. This means the battery is in the optimal state (temp etc.) for charging when you reach the charger. However, unless you use the in-built Sat Nav, the car has no idea about this. So using Apple Maps, Google, Waze etc. and none of these can effectively control battery pre-conditioning. Likewise on Hybrid's where the in-built Sat Nav can be used to engage the electric motors for maximum efficiency based on terrain etc. I prefer CarPlay for music as I have lots of music on my phone, and using wireless CarPlay over WiFi gives better quality than straight Bluetooth. Also the messaging integration is better. However, I prefer the in-car Sat Nav, and also things like the 4x4 information is far better on the on-board system. It feels like a lot of extra development on the part of the Car makers just for CarPlay to integrate all of that and then you have nothing for Android users where unless Google copy Apple, you still need the in-car stuff... So to me, the new more integrated CarPlay just seems a bit of a waste of resource... As I say though, the biggest issue is how do people like Apple and Google control EV battery charging in a way that properly integrates with their mapping? Without that moving forward, surely their ability becomes limited. And will Car makers give up lucrative in-car map subscriptions by enabling that? Enjoyed the video!
Aha! Spotted! Yeah I recorded this at Sandbanks! 👀 This is very big problem that I see happening in the future for sure. CarPlay is great, but when an EV is involved you will want to use the in built system. One of the reasons why Tesla are not going to offer CarPlay as it will ruin people’s experience with it (pre-conditioning, superchargers etc) I’m hoping that on the next gen CarPlay, they figure that bit out!
Well, like any other technology update (including cars), it’s always incremental for more company big bucks! I’ll stick with my old iPhone 12 Pro Max. 😂 still works great and with CarPlay. Cheers!
@@npoleary haha it used to be clearer when the icon used to depict an actual home button, which back then you would use to toggle Siri. Great video as always, been binging your content as I await a new A Class, keep it up 👍
@@npoleary Mountain grey, a bit boring perhaps, but I think it looks smart on the car. I’d love to see another review of your A Class at some point, I’m interested to know how much you can feel the 14hp motor, whether the engine kicks in immediately from start, whether you can hear a whine etc etc
No not at all, I would have preferred Mountain Grey but I didn't want to wait 😂 Grey's easier to keep clean! It's honestly so subtle but yeah I'll make sure I cover that, might be in about 5 video's time though so bear with 🙏
Thank you! Mous Aramid Fibre Phone Case Have used them for 3 years without a single issue would highly recommend. Have also just bought the iPhone 16 Pro Max and bought the case before I’d even seen it as they never disappoint. Not affiliated with them in anyway and I should also add I’ve always managed to get a discount some way or another each year (signing up to their newsletter then unsubscribing etc) If you want 15% off, message me your email privately and I’ll send you a link 👊🏼 “contact@npo-media.co.uk”
It’s so revolutionary that I didn’t even notice. I’m still trying to understand what the big deal is with iOS 18 on my iPhone… looks the same aside from larger icons and dark mode. 😅
When Apple release a new update they add things almost hidden from sight. My logic to that is that they don’t change things for people who are used to it. Take the photos app for example, completely changed, and you get people moaning about it on X (twitter) because it’s different. I’m sure Apple just play it safe with the majority of their system and model what works and to find the latest updates and features, they’re subtle changes hidden away (if that makes sense)
Ridden a bike for years. Cant understand why bike riders have phone holders and not use voice all the time. You can do all sorts of stuff from read last txt message, to ring mum, find directions. Not much else required whilst riding
I have the 15 pro max with ios 18 downloaded but Apple intelligence isn’t available just yet. You must have a developer software or currently in America.
Apple are doing something a bit different this year (very strange for them) but they’re doing a staged rollout so the new Siri will be iOS 18.1 and in selected countries.
It shouldn’t be cutting out, that would indicate a problem somewhere. Make sure that you’re using the latest version of iOS 18.1 (at the time of writing) as it’ll have the latest bug fixes for CarPlay and the whole phone. Try un-pairing and re-pairing back up, to see if that makes a difference. And if you can try another phone to see if the same happens that way you can point it to the car.
Ever since installing 18.1 my car play is acting up, the listening and speaking keep popping up on steering wheel anytime i lift cell or when I initially start up car. It’s driving me crazy that I need to keep pushing the speak button to try and turn it off
Wow - life changing stuff here then ! ........... what I want to see is a CarPlay app which turns the whole screen in to a spectrum analyser with the "bouncing bars" in time to the music. A hark back to the 80's / 90's after market units ....... when things were actually better !! ..... that's an app I would pay for !
Is your CarPlay full screen because you’re on a later version of MBUX? I have the larger screen on the 2019 a class but have the boxed CarPlay. Any way to change it to be full screen like you’ve got there? Looks far far better
@@npoleary thanks for the time replying fully there! I figured that was the case… I wonder if that’s an Apple thing or a Mercedes thing… doesn’t seem like a huge deal to be able to have CarPlay check the screen size and Mercedes tells it, and it utilises the whole screen. After all, we have all different shapes and sizes of screens on phones and car displays… just a shame I’ve paid extra for the bigger screen and can’t use it with the better CarPlay… I find Mercedes paid navigation system terrible in Edinburgh, constantly takes me longer routes and doesn’t keep up to date with all the constant road works going on here, leading me to dead ends! Google and Apple Maps gets it right every time. I found a video today actually claiming to be able to do it, so I’ve messaged them to find out more, what it involves etc.
@@npoleary I think it’s probably just a module to plug in. I saw your video from about a year ago to play videos etc. which has CarPlay/Android auto built in. When it’s running through the module, would it be in full screen then? 🤔
Ah yeah that makes sense, one of the reasons why I love CarPlay! It’s just because Mercedes offered two screen sizes on that model of car. They didn’t build two versions of screen ratio for CarPlay so if you have the big screen, you will always have the small cropped CarPlay. I’m a member of some Facebook groups and forums of cars that I review etc and I have heard that some places offer a coding thing to change it but you’ll have to do some research to see if they’re any good 👍🏼
I was told Porsche are looking to integrate into the dial area display for phone based satnav, so it’s not just on the multimedia screen, but directions are in the drivers direct line of sight.
I’m totally not interested in new backgrounds, sounds, colours, silly Siri commands or whatsoever. Why can’t Apple integrate useful apps related to the car?
Apple actually provides extensive dashboard and car controls through CarPlay, car manufacturers just choose to not allow them to work and rather push their on interface
Have you run into a situation where when you record a video on your iphone in your car while Carplay is active there won't be audio on your video when you playback the video. I believe you have to change the audio on the control center on your iphone. Annoying.
Oh ok, may be I need to change my question then 😊how can I see all those apps on my screen ( like youtube, whats app, ...)? Do I need to pay extra to MBUK? Thanks for your advice. I learnt about my EQA car a lot only withwatching your videos no need to use Manuel booklet 😎🙃
Sadly Apple CarPlay is restricted to the apps you see on the screen. That’s Apple doing this to stop driver distractions etc It would be good if they offered more, but What’s App is there just swipe across when you’re on CarPlay and it’ll show you more apps 🤓
Fair enough 🤓 Which iPhone have you got? Just curious as the new ones were announced recently, not sure who might be upgrading or waiting for a few years / next year.
Ah yes it’s just for Apple Intelligence which is iPhone 15 Pro or newer. However at least you still get iOS 18 so you can have the latest feature like customising the Home Screen etc (on the phone)
Yes Apple are doing a staged role out at the moment (very unusual for them!) iOS 18.1 and onward will introduce Apple Intelligence and even then a rollout in selected countries
Oh for my car? Yeah @ghostldnx beat me to it! Thanks 😅 It was introduced on the facelift, wireless was introduced as well as it has a new multimedia system. Basically any new A-Class without the touchpad will have it.
This depends on the car’s hardware, sadly not all cars have wireless CarPlay but just in case they don’t I made a video about that sometime ago: th-cam.com/video/lRhL-DXVL3g/w-d-xo.htmlsi=JLFdy9pzighbRcsv
Just updated. I assume the sound quality for music coming from cloud play is still flat? My biggest complaint about Car Play is the sound quality. It’s supposed to be controlled by your car’s native sound settings but it doesn’t and my premium sound system sounds flat.
I believe that CarPlay is limited to 256kbps so it'll never sound great. I have the Bowers & Wilkins sound system in my Volvo and CarPlay sounds fairly mediocre on that. The car's native Spotify app sounds much better.
Try this setting it might help. On your phone: Settings Camera Record Sound “Allow Audio Playback” toggle this on Also double check you’re on iOS 18.1 as this has fixed a few CarPlay buys recently 🙏
Hmmm I downgraded to iOS 17 so I could get off the developer beta and be on the stable public release which is what I’m on now (just the standard iOS 18). I do have the new button and it’s installed on an iPhone 15 Pro Max.
Apple are doing something a bit different this year (very strange for them) but they’re doing a staged rollout so the new Siri will be iOS 18.1 and in selected countries.
I changed the cables nothing was working and looks like there was something about my Apple Watch turn it off and my car play was working without any issue

@ thank you Nick for quick answer . I’ve ordered today a Ottocast P3. I’m pretty sure it will not change the resolution on screen, but I will unlock some new features 😃 next and quite soon will be GLE 2025 so maybe there will be better resolution !
I updated to the iOS 18 & now my navigation voice in Apple Maps only plays through my dashboard driver side speaker any idea how to change it back to playing in my door speakers ???
Apple are doing something a bit different this year (very strange for them) but they’re doing a staged rollout so the new Siri will be iOS 18.1 and in selected countries.
Ah the CarPlay menu button location is actually dictated by the car manufacturer. Some over here in the UK are on the other side too. I’ve even seen a Volvo before with it on the bottom of the screen as opposed to the left or the right.
Hi Nick just want to ask why is it everytime I answered phone calls using carplay my music (spotify) get static after the call same time voice control will not work….. ( Voice Control is activated all the time ) is there a settings that I need to do? For now what I do after the call is to deact voice control and activate it again… 😢
Hmmm strange there have been a few issues with people using voice control, it seems to conflict with CarPlay functions quite a bit. Have you downloaded iOS 18.1? That may have fixed it?
For me the only critical “upgrade” that you didn’t address is whether Apple fixed the CarPlay connectivity problem. I have a late model C8 Corvette most of the time CarPlay connects with no problem than out of the blue it will not connect to matter what I do. It’s like “Murphy’s Law” I get in my Corvette ready to go on a long trip that I need navigation and the map projected….and the right on que CarPlay will not connect!
By any chance does that happen when your phone is connected to WiFi? This scenario can happen to me sometimes, I leave the house jump in the car and it’s still connected to my home WiFi. And only as I drive down the road does it then decide to connect. Hasn’t done it recently though I should add!
This happens to me occasionally if I change to quickly into drive as it is till loading and if I move from accessory mode (toyota) Wireless. I can plug it in it always works
@@npolearythank you it really worked i was worried that my charging jack or infotainment usb jack is corrupt. But just turning off small setting saved me lots of bucks. ❤
With Apple Maps, is there a way to save your location when you are say a new friends address and you want to save that…. that’s something I’ve wanted for so long and it might be there but I don’t know how to use it
Not seen a way to do that on the car screen when CarPlay is there but on the phone just hold your finger on the place on the map and it’ll drop a pin 📍 🤓
After updating to ois 18, i dont get that little box on screen when recieving a message ( like in 4:50 from Erin sharp ) i get the notification on the speakers thats all. i can ask Siri to read it up but kinda missing that box any ideas ?
Hoping that new cars will continue to have CarPlay. With the push for manufacturers to want to expand there in-house subscription services, some OEMs have already decided not to offer CarPlay and Android Auto. GM is one OEM that is dropping it starting in MY 2025.
Yeah I heard that! Bad move on their part. Basically means I won’t even consider buying them unless….their multimedia is really good. Might test it out in the future! 👀
With the call record feature how does it advise the person you are calling? I get it if they answer the call immediately but as most companies keep you in a queue or set of menu choices for a few minutes or more, if you start recording while in the queue, how does it know when someone answers. As far as the phone system is concerned the call starts when the automated system makes the connection not when a human answers.
Well short answer is they wouldn’t know 😅 Getting technical, as far as I’m aware it is not illegal to record someone’s or a companies conversation. However it is a bit different if you then intend to or plan to share it. Of course there is the courteous thing of asking or informing but if it’s for your own reference then there’s no need. Good question though!
Apple are doing something a bit different this year (very strange for them) but they’re doing a staged rollout so the new Siri will be iOS 18.1 and in selected countries. So won’t be long and we can do it in British too!
Only things I can suggest for that is to make sure that it’s enabled in settings (in case iOS 18 has toggled it off) Make sure FaceID is off for those apps, I’ve read online countless people who have issues with locking an app for it to behave strangely in CarPlay. I also noticed you said Radio, is that an app for radio or actually radio in the car. Depending on the car you have, you might need to be using CarPlay itself, if you’re using the radio in the car, the car might be trying to take over and not showing CarPlay stuff. Best to use one or the other (if that’s what you’re using 🤓)
Does the CarPlay update display "lossless" when playing Apple Music in this format? As of now, it only displays this format icon in the app when it is open on the phone but not on the CarPlay display in your vehicle.
No sadly the CarPlay protocol won’t allow lossless formats to come through. I’m no audiophile I should say first, but I do appreciate good music and sound quality and understand codecs a little. I would imagine that on the car’s end, for compatibility wise that most cars simply wouldn’t be able to decode that sort of high quality audio file. Plus I guess it would depend if CarPlay is wired or wireless as well. I cover Mercedes a bit on my channel and only some of their latest cars use Dolby Atmos support, with a specific sound system and even then it won’t work through Apple CarPlay, it only works through the car’s own user interface. I tried it! 😜 But…looking to the future I would presume and expect the next gen CarPlay to feature this sort of thing for us music lovers! That would be good!
Hello Nick. I am from Brazil and have a Honda New City. I noticed a problem with my Apple CarPlay after the update. Before, if I chose Waze to navigate, it was always there. Now, if I have the screen split between Spotify and Waze, when I touch the 'square' to go to the menu and touch it again, the screen shows me Google Maps and Spotify, and Waze is gone. ?!?!?! Any ideias?
When Apple update iOS it can introduce some bugs and things which can show these sorts of behaviours. That sounds to me like Google Maps or Waze are stealing the focus or the last used state of the Dashboard (the split screen view). Or Waze has an issue with that function. Only thing I can suggest is to make sure Background App Refresh is on for all apps and make sure that you’ve updated to the latest versions of the apps. Auto App updates sometimes take weeks to actually update so manually update them if you can. App Store Profile picture Swipe down on that page Update all Google Maps - last update yesterday Waze - two weeks ago Failing that iOS 18.1 will be out next month which addresses any minor issues usually!
Thank you! I’ve used it in cars with a vertical screen before but it always forces a landscape output. So I’m guessing that Apple have only coded landscape for CarPlay. In a recent video the BYD Seal Review I did, you can spin the screen round. But launch CarPlay vertically and it’ll spin back round again.
It's available on Volvos from around 2022 onwards running Google's AAOS system. My 2024 XC60 has a vertical centre screen and CarPlay fills it vertically. On my older XC90 it was limited to horizontal and thus occupied only half the vertical screen.
Oh yeah I completely forgot about that! I have reviewed a Volvo XC40 before and that was vertical. I stand corrected! Thanks @davemcginlay9218 😅 Yeah it defo was vertical so it could be down to the manufacturer’s coding or something?
whaty happened in my porsche cayman is that i no longer can use both the google navigation in carplay as well as porsches own at the same time (two different displays in the car). Google is good for immediate surrounding whereas the porsches is good for overall view. It worked before upgrading. Any work arounds?
They aren’t ever designed to be used at the same time though. They are completely separate systems. Although having reviewed a few cars, some do lean in to let you do it more than others. Sadly I’ve not ever covered a Porsche on my channel yet so am not familiar with the multimedia systems etc. but I might in the future! Two questions though, has the Porsche done an update too? Does the same also work with the Porsche screen when using Apple Maps?
Apple are doing something a bit different this year (very strange for them) but they’re doing a staged rollout so the new Siri will be iOS 18.1 and in selected countries.
One thing is that if you did not know, you can activate siri with just the word siri besides hey siri, but the new way to activate siri doesn't work if you are speaking a sentence with the word siri.
Sorry I made a mistake which I pinned to the comments at the top. For Apple Intelligence it’s 15 Pro and up. However for future software updates Apple are one of the best for that. Apple support iOS updates up to 6 years which is sometimes better than most of the competition. It doesn’t mean your phone will stop working though, it just means you’ll be on the last version of iOS. It will only become a problem when app developers stop supporting compatibility for that version of iOS and you can’t use your favourite apps. Probably will be a few more years again until anything crops up like that so you’re good! 😊
Sadly not sure on what one I’ve heard of Pandora but it literally doesn’t exist here in the UK. Can’t even view it on the App Store as it’s in countries for example like the USA. Outside temp is usually on the car side anyway so depends on the car 👍🏼
Thanks for letting me know, already added a pinned comment to the comments section. I completely forgot that Apple introduced two different chipsets last year so it’s only on the A17 Pro Chip which is iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
Mentioned at start it’s due very soon and added a pinned comment in the comment section that says: 🚨Rumoured release of iOS 18 on Monday 16th September! 🚨 Version tested in this video is iOS 18.1. It features some Apple Intelligence features which are only available in selected countries round the world and will be rolling out over the coming months.
You can do this from your iPhone, head into Settings > General > CarPlay and choose your vehicle, then tap Customise. Here you can re-order and/or hide CarPlay apps.
@maisysmumma, @crispyuk beat me to it! Sorry sometimes a notification doesn’t come through for every comment, have never found out why! But yeah that’s how you can re-organise the icons and show/hide them. I actually find it best to do it when CarPlay is active because it’s easier to see the changes instantly on CarPlay. Just bear in mind you have to do this for each car (if you use or have access to multiple ones). Hope that helps! And thank you! Glad you enjoy them!

Apple intelligence isn't in the EU yet. UK in December I believe
@TheRiddler_1 Apple are doing something a bit different this year (very strange for them) but they’re doing a staged rollout so the new Siri will be iOS 18.1 and in selected countries.
The “new home button” is THE ORIGINAL home button design from the first iPhone, that’s so cool
- My entire Apple Music library (downloaded offline)
- Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze (which ever one I feel like using)
- My podcasts (downloaded offline)
- The ability to reply to texts should I need to
- Calendar integration with Apple Maps
It’s all brilliant, so yeah long story long. I love Apple CarPlay.
I guess car manufacturers have to pay for the privilege of CarPlay or A.Auto. That’s why they want to back away. So it all adds up in the costs and then profits of a single car. iPhone costs 1/20 of a car lol
They are definitely charging for CarPlay integration but don’t hold me to that.
This ☝️
Very true, I remember reading Apple CarPlay Developer notes and what developers have to do to get an app “approved” and it’s a minefield. Button placement, number of steps to get to a thing, and in some instances colours used!
It's unclear what your point is. Are you saying that the only new CarPlay feature in iOS 18 is one wallpaper? If so, did you watch this video?
@@emmgeevideo I watched it and, yes, the highlight was the wallpaper change.
Finally someone who pronounces Porsche correctly!
Of course! There is only the correct way!

But he pronounces nearly everything else incorrectly!
I think this is a great feature.
Great video thanks. Does Carplay auto-update?
Thank you!
Well CarPlay is your phone, so if you update you phone then you’ll have updated CarPlay 🤓🙏
Hi nick. Hey, congrats on the video! Quick question: How did you get Apple Carplay to take over the whole screen in your Mercedes?
Sadly not all cars can do full screen CarPlay. There are other manufacturers who have come across the same before.
For Mercedes it’s a common question which I’ve answered on my FAQ series here: th-cam.com/video/N9x56XWdjIo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=mlzuNGtciSlsdcdb&t=537
Basically it’s because MBUX (also known as NTG 6) on Mercedes is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”.
Haha thanks no I haven’t hacked it I wouldn’t know how to! 😅
No one can choose a screen size, that’s just how they are
Thank you for telling us what features aren’t available on our older phones! Some other TH-cam channels cater to the newest model(s), and I have to Google why I can’t find a selection, etc.
Yeeeeah new button, new wallpapers years of innovations.
Haha 😅
I think they’re putting all of their efforts into next gen CarPlay. But some car manufacturers are reluctant to do it for some reason 😕
Or they’re being very slow about it!
Me feeling exactly 😂😂
Getting my 16 pro max today. Can’t wait to try out all the new features. Thanks for the information on CarPlay
Me too! I’m heading to Basingstoke! 😛
Hello. I appreciate you responding to all comments. Do you have an a250E?
That‘s alright! I try to where I can!
No I wish, it’s an A 180 Hatchback 🤓
I would like to see the posted speed limit even when not using maps for a destination
Waze can do this 🤓
I updated to IOS18 on my Iphone 15 Pro Max and have all sorts of problems now 🤯 email accounts are not working anymore, and Google maps sound goes down whenever it wants and I’m not able to change it.
I hope there will be an update soon to fix that.
Great video and thanks
Thank you! 🙏
If a car has CarPlay then it should not need an update it’ll still run on the same CarPlay protocol from day one.
Car horns and sirens are good. I'm thinking train horns would have been a smart inclusion. 🤣
It might pick that up? They are similar I guess 🤓
I hope so! 🤞🏼
You missed the HomeKit upgrade for CarPlay. Best missed feature upgrade ever.
What more can you do on HomeKit? 🤓
i thought iphone 16 "upgrades" were useless, but these carplay ones, just wow!
Hi, in Android Auto you have an option to synchronise the wallpaper between the car and the phone. It's also a good idea. Thanks for the video
Oh really Android’s beating CarPlay on that one! I need to revisit Android Auto and make another video on it!
This is very big problem that I see happening in the future for sure.
CarPlay is great, but when an EV is involved you will want to use the in built system. One of the reasons why Tesla are not going to offer CarPlay as it will ruin people’s experience with it (pre-conditioning, superchargers etc)
I’m hoping that on the next gen CarPlay, they figure that bit out!
So basically no real useful updated/new features on CarPlay.
Well there’s a few minor ones, like last year it was minor as well. However…I reckon Apple are holding out till the next gen CarPlay.
@@npolearywe’ve been hearing this since 2017

I have an old car without a touch screen. I am going to try voice control today!
Besides support for some additional apps, CarPlay really does everything I want it to already 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah it is really good! There’s a reason I use it in virtually every car, but just a couple more tweaks would make it even better.
How to I stop CarPlay cutting off in certain spots even when WiFi and Bluetooth are connected
I was "right now years old" when I found out Siri tells jokes! 😂This is my first video of yours. Thanks so much!
Oh haha they are really bad jokes though 😅
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
I wish they would let us keep the map in the satellite view while navigating.
That would be good! 👍🏼
Google maps does that! Change setting to satellite on phone, not carplay. I thought it was great but hard to read depending on screen size
Ever since installing 18.1 my car play is acting up, the listening and speaking keep popping up on steering wheel anytime i lift cell or when I initially start up car. It’s driving me crazy that I need to keep pushing the speak button to try and turn it off
Have you got Vocal Shortcuts enabled on your phone? It sounds like you have, turn them off in settings and CarPlay will go back to normal 🤓
I used to use the spectrum analyser on windows media player 🤓 loved it
That would be cool if CarPlay did that!

I’m a member of some Facebook groups and forums of cars that I review etc and I have heard that some places offer a coding thing to change it but you’ll have to do some research to see if they’re any good 👍🏼
@markianson621 oh and the accessories I’ve covered just add features to the car sadly they don’t change the screen size on the car’s end.

Yeah I can’t wait to see something like that!
I’m totally not interested in new backgrounds, sounds, colours, silly Siri commands or whatsoever. Why can’t Apple integrate useful apps related to the car?

iOS 18.0.1 has just been released so try that as that has fixed a few issues just not sure on the CarPlay ones yet. Hopefully they have
I have an Iphone 15, but I didn't get the apple intelligence and siri option
Apple are doing something a bit different this year (very strange for them) but they’re doing a staged rollout so the new Siri will be iOS 18.1 and in selected countries.
lol. It makes sense but in America the home button on the bottom right is on our left. Never seen it so I didn’t know.
Ah the CarPlay menu button location is actually dictated by the car manufacturer. Some over here in the UK are on the other side too. I’ve even seen a Volvo before with it on the bottom of the screen as opposed to the left or the right.
How did you get messages on your car play
As in text messages? iMessage?
Hi Nick just want to ask why is it everytime I answered phone calls using carplay my music (spotify) get static after the call same time voice control will not work….. ( Voice Control is activated all the time ) is there a settings that I need to do? For now what I do after the call is to deact voice control and activate it again… 😢
Hmmm strange there have been a few issues with people using voice control, it seems to conflict with CarPlay functions quite a bit. Have you downloaded iOS 18.1? That may have fixed it?
same problem with IOS 18.1.
I updated to ios 18 and now my carplay has sound issue it plays like sound inside deep water
Turn off Vocal Shortcuts, it's a pinned comment that someone found out
@@npolearythank you it really worked i was worried that my charging jack or infotainment usb jack is corrupt. But just turning off small setting saved me lots of bucks. ❤
When will be able to use a weather app with apple carplay
No idea but I’d like that!
Apple Intelligent will only be available on iPhone 15 Pro or any iPhone 16 .Not the standard iPhone 15.
Ah thanks for clarifying, I’ve added a pinned note to the comments section and the description 🙏
The album art is bigger!
It is! I noticed that a few days ago! 😅
Too late now, already posted the video! 😂
With Apple Maps, is there a way to save your location when you are say a new friends address and you want to save that…. that’s something I’ve wanted for so long and it might be there but I don’t know how to use it
Not seen a way to do that on the car screen when CarPlay is there but on the phone just hold your finger on the place on the map and it’ll drop a pin 📍
🤓
Nice jacket
Thanks! 🙏
Now if Apple Maps would only show the exit numbers I could finally give google maps das boot.
Ah for motorways? I noticed that! I love that on Google Maps!
After updating to ois 18, i dont get that little box on screen when recieving a message ( like in 4:50 from Erin sharp ) i get the notification on the speakers thats all. i can ask Siri to read it up but kinda missing that box any ideas ?
Have you got Do Not Disturb enabled or any automations enabled like that?
And have you got notifications enabled on your phone? 🤓
How do I get this full screen?
I think is available only in the last 2 or 3 years models.
For the Mercedes I showcased this in? It depends on the car you have. Which make and model do you have?
With the call record feature how does it advise the person you are calling? I get it if they answer the call immediately but as most companies keep you in a queue or set of menu choices for a few minutes or more, if you start recording while in the queue, how does it know when someone answers. As far as the phone system is concerned the call starts when the automated system makes the connection not when a human answers.
Well short answer is they wouldn’t know 😅
Getting technical, as far as I’m aware it is not illegal to record someone’s or a companies conversation. However it is a bit different if you then intend to or plan to share it. Of course there is the courteous thing of asking or informing but if it’s for your own reference then there’s no need.
Good question though!
what you did not mention about apple intelligence is that you can't request it if your phone's language and region is set to United kingdom (British).
Apple are doing something a bit different this year (very strange for them) but they’re doing a staged rollout so the new Siri will be iOS 18.1 and in selected countries.
So won’t be long and we can do it in British too!
This is actually a really pleasant video. Informative, you are funny, nice setup, good quality, you are on a nice island… great job!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed this one!
Can anyone tell me why my text messages are no longer announced while the radio is playing with IOS18
Only things I can suggest for that is to make sure that it’s enabled in settings (in case iOS 18 has toggled it off)
Make sure FaceID is off for those apps, I’ve read online countless people who have issues with locking an app for it to behave strangely in CarPlay.
I tried it! 😜
But…looking to the future I would presume and expect the next gen CarPlay to feature this sort of thing for us music lovers! That would be good!
@@npoleary Thank you for your incite! I always enjoy your videos.

Google Maps - last update yesterday
Waze - two weeks ago
Failing that iOS 18.1 will be out next month which addresses any minor issues usually!
nice video. why is Apple car play not avalible for a vertical screen?
Thanks @davemcginlay9218 😅
Yeah it defo was vertical so it could be down to the manufacturer’s coding or something?
whaty happened in my porsche cayman is that i no longer can use both the google navigation in carplay as well as porsches own at the same time (two different displays in the car).
Is this a 2023 Mercedes CLA AMG? I'm surprised that Apply Carplay is shown in fullscreen.
No it’s my A-Class, 2023 model facelift
Any model without the touchpad will have Full Screen CarPlay
I have an iphone 15 pro running ios 18 but I don't have the colored animations for siri.
Apple are doing something a bit different this year (very strange for them) but they’re doing a staged rollout so the new Siri will be iOS 18.1 and in selected countries.
Shazam doesn’t work with radio simultaneously at ios18 carplay. Previous ios it could work. Please tell the solve 🙏🏻
Not sure on that one, have you got the latest app installed as well?
@@npoleary yes i use latest version of shazam
Rumour has it, Apple are releasing another version next week! Hopefully that’ll fix it!
@@npoleary thank you
One thing is that if you did not know, you can activate siri with just the word siri besides hey siri, but the new way to activate siri doesn't work if you are speaking a sentence with the word siri.
You sure can! That was last year’s iOS 17 update 😜

15 and up, eh?! Guess my 10 will stop working soon then for some unknown reason.
Anyway to get outside temperature to show while using Waze and pandora
Sadly not sure on what one
I’ve heard of Pandora but it literally doesn’t exist here in the UK. Can’t even view it on the App Store as it’s in countries for example like the USA.
Outside temp is usually on the car side anyway so depends on the car 👍🏼
15 Pro for new Siri
Thanks for letting me know, already added a pinned comment to the comments section.
I completely forgot that Apple introduced two different chipsets last year so it’s only on the A17 Pro Chip which is iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
I don’t have the messaging app neither the call app 😢
Have you got them locked via FaceID? This removes them off CarPlay.
Nick, how do you update it to a new 2024 AMG?
Mentioned at start it’s due very soon and added a pinned comment in the comment section that says:
🚨Rumoured release of iOS 18 on Monday 16th September! 🚨
Version tested in this video is iOS 18.1. It features some Apple Intelligence features which are only available in selected countries round the world and will be rolling out over the coming months.
Also, is it possible to move the apps So the ones that you use the most are on the first page? Thank you for your videos.
