Been a long time viewer of Rudy's. I recently got my first real job that isn't paying me in only floppy tacos and chuck norris fists to the face. I'm excited at this incredible time to buy into the market. I saw my port go from +200% to being negative ytd. 🙃
The sad thing around a third to half the people I talk to about investing lost it all in 2008-2009. Whether it was selling when the S&P got under 1200 and never buying back in or getting hit by a margin call on the way down because you were triple levered up in the name of chasing higher gains. When I explain that 2008-2012 were my best years as an investor, people look at me like I am crazy person who has lost my mind or living in a different reality than the rest of world. Perhaps it's just the world we live in today, a "dog eat dog", "one man's pain is another's gain" type of world.
As someone who shared a similar past financial career as Rudy, I can honestly say Rudy REALLY knows what he's talking about. He gives free advice that other advisors should be giving. Very knowledgeable individual. I hope people take his advice, as this is the time of transfer of wealth from the impatient to the patient.
Love Rudy's voice of sanity in the financial realm... I don't really do a lot of investment in physical assets (small collection of single MTG but they're really more for sentimental value) but I appreciate his insights into portfolio management and staying the course for the long term.

I remember the 2008 crash. My family lost faith in the market but we didn't sell, we just did nothing. 10-12 years later it all came back and then some.
It's possible this may be worst (not from a sentiment perspective) than the 08 crash because of the insane parabolic run up we've had in asset prices over the last 12 years. The easy money has caused an intense asset bubble that is in the middle of correcting. However Rudy is right, in the long term holding high quality stocks with good balance sheets is nearly always a winning strategy.
Agreed. I've been dollar cost average for a long time. When the market goes down, my stocks are on sale. When my stocks go up, I'm making money. Don't let emotions get to you and keep on putting money into the greed monster, you'll walk away richer than if you try and time it perfectly

Next time you go to buy a month later just put your money in and log out again. Maybe afterwards buy some burger king. The constantly being plugged in is what's stressful. As much as I would love to agree with you Rudy, there are analysts who are predicting a lost decade in the next 10yrs similar to what happened to the Japanese market in the 80's. As someone who has lost 30% of his 401k in the last 3 mos and who is 51yrs old, I'm scared for my retirement.

I'm not looking forward to another recession, but I'm definitely glad to be in a better spot, job-wise and also owning a house now, considering how bad it was back then
This was literally me last week. Shifted a large portion of my 401k into my companies stock. The next two days it dropped 10%+ each day. But here we are a week later and the price is back to above where I purchased it.
The only thing you forget, people don't have the extra cash to keep buying these days. Heating/electricity exploded 400%, gas prices 40%, building materials (if you can find any) 2-300%, food 20-30%. + the income raise lags a year behind each inflation drop.
Definitely good advice. I think other than 2020 its a little different then previous crashes. We have so many bad influencers because of technology and social media. We are in an age where everybody has extremely easy access to the markets and too many people make videos of what the market will do next.
@Rudi Wow, this is actually sound, well-reflected advice. Noone can know whether we are at the bottom. Keep buying in intervalls and spread the cash out, so that you take some of the low prices and have stuff before it goes up again. Very few will hit the perfect bottom perfectly by accident. Those who try diliberatly will most likely miss the discount completly.
I want to echo my thanks for these types of videos. If the only thing that anyone gets out of them is to "slow down and think rationally" about ANY type of investment (401k, IRA, crypto, collectables, real estate, precious metals, etc.), you've done those that listen a huge service.
Things will go up for sure, but my concern about this crash is that....during the 08 crash, us government got tons of funding from the Chinese government to balance things out. This time there's no Chinese government to help because they are in a much deeper shit than we do. In 12- 18 months US and the world should be starting to "walk out" from this crap, however, if the Chinese economy collapsed anytime during this period, we would be in this hellhole for at least few more years.

Over the last 8 months, the stock price for my job has erased 5 years worth of gains. I’m putting everything I can spare (not being a hero) to put into their stock purchasing plan (extra 5% off). It’s basically like getting in on the ground floor. Our revenue is up but profit is down because we opened up several other locations. I don’t expect it to bounce back overnight, but once the bonds that we’ve have matured (2023, 2025), I would expect this to turn around. This job is in medical billing. Short of some miracle getting us universal healthcare, my job isn’t going anywhere.

My sister is a CFA for a major bank and she's stunned my how relatively calm everyone is. I asked her about how many calls she was getting everyday, but was surprised when she said she got hardly any. People are not freaking out like in 2008.

Back in 2020 I was intending to buy the bottom. Checked the market daily but never invested as all the articles online constantly said there was further to fall. Then the market bounced back so quick I missed out on the gains entirely. I've learned my lesson, this time I'm just buying into the s&p regularly and not worrying about the short term. The reality is it doesn't matter where you buy in, in 30 years it'll probably look like a bargain. 🙂

What I've learned over the past 2 years is to not have so much money in stocks. I've been doing way better in collectibles and other physical assets. My sealed Pokemon & MTG continue to hold strong and even go higher. Even if things have come down in some segments I'm still up on a lot of them or at the very least break even compared to stocks. Now is the time to add to both stocks & discounted collectibles, and to continue doing so over the next year.
What you're saying is so true. The people spending hours a day tracking the stocks and panic selling are the ones losing money. Not the ones who keep what they have.
