I lived at Diamond Lake for a few years. when i was 10 my older brother and i seen a massive creature we can only describe as what we knew to be bigfoot. it was standing in the doorway of our house taller then the door frame and the shape of a huge person roughly 10:00pm. my stepdad at the time was head of security at the resort and the next day he was telling my mother of how he chased something into the swamps the shape of a man but huge and foul smelling.. may seem like just a legend for some folks but to others who have witnessed something and heard its grunts and howls you cant shake our belief. put yourself out there in that dense forest for a few nights alone without a dog and chances are you will experience something you thought was just a made up story.

The rut/mating season is in the fall. It was an elk. Male Elk are extremely vocal. They are very aggressive during this season. The moon phase was probably full. This last around 4 weeks. They make deep scary sounds & thrash around.. Make noise if walking around at dusk or sunrise. If if going to a pit toilet. Some People will say you heard a Sasquatch...

As other commenters have said, it was more than likely an Elk. They make some weird sounds. I have heard similar strange louds sounds in the forest when it was not rut season. I do not believe that there are any Burros around, however, in Big Bear California forest there is a bunch of them and they make some very strange bellowing sounds unlike anything you would think might come from an animal on Earth.

Magick requires rest. The best place to get back to normal is a nature walk in a park or climbing. Don't overdo the time in ritual. That's lusting for results and will mess up what you intended to do.

I had to do security overnight for a new condo development near Banff Alberta, Canada. There were elk around and they would scratch trees with their antlers and make groaning and grunting noises, it was rutting season. The scariest part was at about 2:30-3:00 am, I heard what could only be described as a woman screaming in the distance! It almost sounds like a rusty wrought iron gate slowly closing, but scarier! I was freaked the F out! I later learned that elk make that high pitched scream during rutting season, PHEW

  • @charlieswearingen500

I would guess it was a bull elk. Elk have huge 55-gallon sized drum-like lungs and they emit deep guttural groaning sounds as well as a high-pitched whistling during their annual September rutting season. They use those sounds to gather a harem and for challenging other bull elk who already have a harem. During the rut, they are in a very high state of sexual arousal and vocalize both day and night. I don't think it was a sasquatch because the males whistle and croon "By the Light of the Silvery Moon" to attract a mate... ;-)

Heard a pterodactyl like sound myself in the middle of the forest , at a cabin I had rented, in the middle of the night. I was having a puff outside alone, and was coughing, all a sudden, a screech like no other, that was probably no further than 25 ft away in the dark.... It scared the bejesus outta me. I got my ass back inside and was shaken. I have done my fair share of middle of nowhere camping and lived on this island my whole life . I have never heard this sound before , and so loud. Had chills down my spine. This was in Tofino , BC on Vancouver Island , Canada's West coast ! I've never heard anybody else describe the pterodactyl sound till now.....

Most likely elk. They are so loud. Ridiculously loud. Lol.

Moose bulls are extremely vocal too during rutting season, Jim … as in you don't wanna get in their way in any way … They always have the right of way on the road, their eyes do not reflect light in darkness and if angry they will kick your camper hard or worse… Stay safe, hmmm ? Love, cat.

I was wondering which animals would be nocturnal around there...You could be describing an elk, with the deep, rumbling or nasal heavy breathing or the up & down sounds - but do they travel around at night, alone? Aren't they the kind of critter that travels in small groups or herds during the day?
Owls can make some strange sounds, which you can hear at a distance - then suddenly hear much closer, as I heard once when walking my smallish dog at night. I heard it call out as we approached that end of the street. It was up in the trees - Oaks, evergreens, Maples that were all about 60', & 70+ ' tall...so we'd turned around & started walking back towards our house. I had a creepy scared feeling - knowing it could've easily swooped down to nab my dog. I wondered - it's night vision is still keen - s maybe it could tell that my dog was on a leash. Then it hooted again, & it was up in a tree - maybe the Colorado Blue spruce next to my house, or on my neighbor's roof - but it was so close so it creeped me out to realize it had followed us. We hurried up the steps & into the front door...
The owl sounds I've heard are deep, but not all are, & do not resemble growling, or rumbling sounds - but if they attacked a rabbit - the rabbits do scream - like a horrible intermittent shrieking - until their throats are cut, & the sounds of an owl landing on the rabbit on the ground, plus the struggling rabbit would make some strange rustling, thumping sounds...

Stay together. Don't wear bright colors. Especially red. Park so you're facing out.

Love the falls, take care with Elk they are large, don't run if you see one. just casually walk away. don't present a threat. they have a guttural roar, throw the head back and let it go. Probably sound nearer than they are.

I know this is a few years back but at 06:20 in the video, upper right night, something moving around almost like an eye, sometimes 2 eyes. Whats strange is sometimes on the vertical, up there. Strange.

Do a youtube search on elk vocalizations. They can sound like a screaming woman or deep grunting. I wouldn't wish to encounter an elk, especially a bull elk. They sound frightening.

I suggest going to google and type in sounds of a _____. And see what comes up. I’ve done that a lot trying to figure out “what was that” lol I would have been climbing back into my van and closing the door😂😂😂🧐 Night sounds can be interesting. I’ve videoed the dark before to catch the animal sounds. I really wish I had a trail cam to put out just to see what I don’t see lol keep that cell handy each night just in case you get the opportunity to video the night sounds. Have a fun week😉👍

Watch Missing 411 Crater Lake have Missing as well as the rest of the National Parks. If your walking the trails don’t Separate out of eyesight even to pee. Cause in his Investigations ppl separate and walk off and in Seconds the Partner comes and looks back and they are gone. Really Spooky ! But what that sounded like wasn’t the Missing Animal it sounded like a Bigfoot !

I vote for the all-bear-jug-band! lol Most animals in heat/rut/mating make awful guttural sounds that sound like they are either killing each other or in extreme pain. Come to think of it, humans make pretty weird mating sounds too.. LOL!! Maybe some of your neighbors were just enjoying some late night "nature."
