Pressed down on the screen, and felt clicking around the front camera. Didn't turn on initially when I let go to press the power button. However, 2nd time I held it down where it clicked while holding the power button VOILA! Thank you for sharing this ingenious method of fixing a hardware issue without having to open up the hardware, great job!

Unbelievable, but the third method actually worked for a Surface Pro 8! Screen was not completely black, you saw that it was on, with some white stripes flickering over it, but nearly comletely greyish black. I pressed with a towl and two fingers the display down and it clicked on one side a little bit. After that it works again and the screen turns on normally!
To be honest, I didn't expect this to work. I think someone needs to be careful, not to press down to hard, as there is the possibility to crack the display.
    Nice video and thanks!

Same problem here, but unfortunately I have bad news, it is a hardware issue, the microswich inside the tablet is the culprit. There's a microswich inside the tablet that fails because of the battery swallowing in time, that's why while it's warm, it won't start, if putting in the freezer does the trick... There you go... Cold contracts and 1 micron it's enough to change the behavior. Unfortunately, even if you fix it... It's temporary, until the battery swallows a little more again

My jaw is still open because I just tried the third method - pressing the screen and ... it worked! I was pressing the whole screen at first quite gently, then repeated it using more force, and the repeated again, and then it just turned on on its own (must have been awaken after I used the second method - pressing the power button for 30 seconds). I was very sceptical at first when I saw the part of the video showing the third and the forth option, but then I thought: what do I have to loose?
    THANK YOU!!!

Unfortunately, this fix and any other fix it's temporary only!!!
Sooner or later you'll encounter again this problem.
It's not new to Microsoft, it's just the way they do business. They know about this issue, but they don't care, this has been around since Surface Pro 2 going on... It's a great device, but they care more about marketing and sales rather than the customers.
I will never buy a Microsoft product again!
Their customers service is terrible as well.
The culprit is a tiny magnetic microswich inside the tablet, about 1/2 inch away from the right side edge, if you're tablet is on... Try yourself with a tiny magnet, place it around the right hand side speaker, a little below it, you'll see the screen goes off, if the microswich is working properly... The screen comes back on right after removing the magnet.
The problem is the battery, in time it swallows and is pushing against the motherboard, the microswich is so tiny that 1 micron of expansion due to the heat or swallowing battery it's enough to change the behavior.
Some temporary ways might work, especially with pushing down the screen, you are basically pushing against the battery, you are flattening it down, so the motherboard goes back to it's original state... But eventually battery will swallow again, and usually expands more and more with time.
Pretty much the Surface series could be associated with the a few years ago Samsung Note 7 bursting in flames one of a sudden issue. They packed the battery way to tight, they never left any room for expanding and contracting, it's well known that a PC warms up quite a bit... But sales needs to keep going...
This whole problem could have been avoided, if everything was the same, but the thickness would have been 1mm greater so the battery in time would have room to expand without putting any pressure on the motherboard and causing the microswich to malfunction.
The only real fix, is to take it apart and replace the battery, and for a permanent fix would be to find the magnetic microswich and short it out in such manner that the LCD would be on all the time and won't ever go off even after closing the type cover keyboard.

Not sure if you can msg me at some point but my 7+ just began having this issue. A week ago I was putting it through the ringer of stamina and doing some standard document work plus running Discord for a video conference. The battery died (or at least it shut down just before it did) so I called my day there, went home, plugged it in over night. I didn't need it for a few days but I went to start it up and I DO get the windows logo, and then the screen goes black and nothing happens. Tried all these attempts and about to try a second run through of them but it's weirding me out that it just... kinda wants to start but won't. I am going to try (as soon as I have time) to make a USB recovery to factory reset the tablet. But basically it just pops up the windows logo then I get a black screen and nothing happens. I've let it sit for roughly 15 minutes and I've done hard-resets multiple times now after letting it sit for longer but still does the same. I'm guessing I need to send it in for repairs if it's consistently giving me this problem. Tried both Vol+ and Vol-

Nice, maybe somebody finds this helpful. But honestly, such a terrible device this has been. I had this black screen problem at some point, it kinda sorted itself out. But I've had blue screen TWICE within the first week of owning it. Also, using 4K 60hz signal is all messed up with green banding and static as if I'm using analog VHS tape system from the 90s, it's completely unusable. My wireless mouse also keeps disconnecting for no reason (doesn't do it on my Windows desktop). Even if these weren't a problem, the device gets uncomfortably hot while drawing in photoshop - and it was the primary reason I got it in the first place. If I could, I would return it. But I cannot and am stuck with this piece of garbage. Stay away people, it's not worth it despite all the good things it has to offer!
