    Why do we get such dull, muddy videos on the cameras of the red company? I have already reviewed a bunch of videos about these cameras and everywhere the image is somehow dim

    • @graetzmedia
      @graetzmedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be looking at log footage that hasn’t had a LUT applied yet? That method of shooting means you retain more latitude to make creative decisions later in post. You can apply a viewing LUT in camera to make the footage look more palatable. Then in post you can apply a grading LUT to give you a headstart on colour correction. If you’re doing quick turnaround work on a Komodo, you can shoot straight to ProRes and choose to “bake” the LUT into the footage.

    • @100amper
      @100amper 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@graetzmedia Pro-res also need to be painted? Doesn't it come out with a clear picture like a simple UHD recording?

    • @graetzmedia
      @graetzmedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      By default it records a log image according to the quality, resolution and contrast option you choose. There’s another option that allows you to bake your chosen LUT into the recorded file.

    • @100amper
      @100amper 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@graetzmedia It's too difficult for me so far) I don't even know how to use LUT

    • @graetzmedia

      I’ll try to cover it in a future episode. It’s not the most intuitive thing in the world - but once you get the concept it can be super helpful.

    • @graetzmedia
      @graetzmedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this test I tried to use the Zhiyun focus/zoom motors on their rail system but had trouble getting them to communicate with the Motion Sense remote. I’m about to release some new videos where I use either the RTMotion focus system or the Tilta Nucleus system. In both cases I’m using the Keystone cage from IgniteDigi Australia to mount the rails. www.ignitedigi.com.au/products/ignite-digi-komodo-keystone

      Unfortunately they’re only made to fit on Zhiyun’s proprietary rails which are 11.86mm (go figure). You should have got some with your Crane kit and some extra extensions if you bought the optional lens motor kit. They screw straight into the crane baseplate.

    • @graetzmedia
      @graetzmedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah to be honest it’s not great. I don’t use the image transmission at all due to low quality and dropouts. I’m using Teradek wireless for vision. The wireless control system doesn’t have great range either. I haven’t done scientific tests on range - but I wouldn’t want to be much more than 5 metres away to get reliable control.

    Just wondering if you're happy with the komodo? I currently have a pocket6k (used to own the scarlet mx back in the day). There's just something about a red.... wondering if this has the same magic or whether it's just a toy branded with the red logo?
    Also, what did that cost you landed in Aust? I think the stormtrooper one is US$7000? What does it end up being with shipping and taxes etc (hard to get any info on it)

    • @graetzmedia
      @graetzmedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s a fair question - and I can 100% say it’s not a toy. I’m seeing very little quality difference between the Komodo and my Monstro (apart from sensor size). For me, Redcode Raw is what makes Red cameras so powerful and having something this small with that power inside it is crazy.
      Cost me approx $11k AUD inc shipping and taxes. The Stormtrooper beta run is coming to an end soon. I believe the normal production run will be at least $2k USD cheaper. Question is when they can start that phase with the impacts of Covid.

    • @graetzmedia
      @graetzmedia  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Becky, Zhiyun doesn’t support Red control at the moment. But if you’re just wanting to move the gimbal using the app, go into the camera selection part of the menu on your smart handle and choose “CCS” as the camera. Should give you control. You need to make sure you’ve got the USB-C to micro-USB cable connected from the camera control port on the gimbal sled to the Transmount transmitter.
      Cheers

    • @graetzmedia

      Unfortunately only the older 7.2v batts. BP-As are double the voltage. I’ve got 2 x BP955s and 2 x BP975s for the Komodo. They’re in short supply likely due to Covid + future Komodo owners buying up the small amount of stock that was around. Runtime is impressive on them (anecdotally-speaking haven’t done an official test yet).

    Hi, looks awesome. I've actually had lots of experience shooting with the RED + Zhiyun Crane 3S out of a car in a simple setup. Your setup is great but if I may add one more tip is def go for a Buick GL8 or a van type of car, so then you can fully open the side sliding doors and get easier access to low angle shots. You can feel free to check out my solo operator Zhiyun Crane 3S official tutorial on my channel to see how I used it. Good luck and great success to your upcoming Music Video shoot.
