Michael Bay, Matrix, Soderbergh.... I just watched a trailer with Meryl Streep’s feature shot on it. I think the biggest question you tubers and viewers need to ask themselves is, can they make this camera work, not can this camera work for them. ❤️
Sure, but that removes your option to output different signals to each monitor, right? So wouldn't be able to have one a monitor with your menus and a clean output to another monitor.

Nice review mate. do you think you could practically use an attached iphone / ipad as a monitor and controller with a shoulder mount set up? as a doc film maker, could it be better to buy a s/h Epic kit for the same price?
@@aytothemm.1035 Black Magic and Komodo share a lot more in common over the A7SIII. A7SIII is a run and gun hybrid shooter. You literally cannot operate the Black Magic and Komodo in run and run situations. They are both super 35 APS-C EF mount cinema cameras with shit autofocus. The A7SIII is a hybrid full frame E mount camera with top notch AF. Yes the A7SIII is closer in price but who cares? Thats like saying you should compare a Ford Raptor to a Corvette over a Camaro because the Raptor is closer in price.
Can I suggest that you have the top handle going towards the lens rather than away from it. That's how most people have it on these smaller body cameras as the wait isn't distributed towards the back it is usually centred.
Yeah, that would be one way to do it, I guess it just depends on the lens you use it with. With the little contax primes, the weight was definitely more towards the back.
Really useful info. I played around with my friend’s the other day, but I didn’t get a full idea of some of the features. This is swaying me to lose my Ursa Mini pro and go Red. The Dynamic range & color was impressive, but the teeny-tiny form factor is what’s winning me over. This would be a fantastic doc/run & gun with some simple rigging.
It seems like the files go up to 2.15gb then split. Not sure about other NLEs but Resolve will merge them back and show clips as you shot them so personally I didn't find it to be a problem.
"There's no way to have an on-camera monitor and a directors monitor at the same time." Not necessarily true. The wifi ad-hoc and streaming features were built for this very reason. "It comes with an RF to EF adapter. So essentially you have an EF mount but with the ability to use drop in filters." This is misleading: though it comes with an RF/EF adapter, it does not have slots to drop in ND filters. You have to buy that model separate.
The Komodo has some things I really like about it... But I've got a Z cam S6 that basically can do everything the Komodo can do. I don't know that its worth over twice the cost. ill give it some time to see where it goes.
@@dronedistrict4349 theirs quite a few comparison videos out there to other high ends cameras. I just saw the other day they are working on an E2 S6G model (Global shutter)
Wait, what? The Komodo maxes out at 6K 17:9 aspect ratio, has a big crop in 4K and 120p is 2K only? I think that alone is not going to make me want to buy it. I'd take a (low ms) rolling shutter sensor with better recording modes over global shutter with outdated specs any day :/
Definitely Matt , will be used for a B-cam beside my Dragon 6k. Also will use it for a grab and go cam. I won’t kit it out as much as the Dragon just so it will be a much easier camera to take out real quick. Will also be able to use it for a quick slider set up shot.
$7,000 for the stormtrooper edition and as far as I know it will be $6,000 once they're properly released. But that's obviously just for the body so make sure you look into the costs of accessories, batteries, cards etc because those can quickly add up!
Just saw a teardown video of an fs7 and yeah, it's not all plastic but it's also not solid metal everywhere on the inside. It's a bit of a mix to make sure the camera is strong where it needs to be and to keep the weight down. Otherwise it would just be 7kg like an Alexa. And it works, I'd never complain about the FS7's build quality and I wouldn't want it to be any heavier, but the Komodo just feels like a solid hunk of metal.
Matt, when we look at a video about the red Komodo we want to see the great red Komodo footage. You're a beautiful person but I did not want to see 15 minutes of you talking
no thanks, i'd buy zcam f6 for less that $6k which is full frame, has wider latitude, way more resolution and slowmo options, times better in low light and not as power hungry, damn it, i'd rather buy A7S3 - has crazy low light, light AF, it shoots (will be shooting) 16 bit raw - without crop 😛 and amazing AF. but, thank you for review !
From all the stuff ive seen the sony A7s 3 beats this in all departments and can shoot 16bit RAW with external monitor . $3500 vs $6000 ...yeah RED is trying us with that price tag
you have no idea how much profit you can press out from customer loyality, Red was famous about its lowest quality/price ratio in the whole industry. It's the only one that selling a $60 ssd for $5000 with out any modification or program from red itself. Also their monitor is quit famous about low cost like $50-100 but taged from$2-4k. So you right about it, Red is very very good at trying their customers and will do it in the future as well, it's just the matter of who's the biggest fanboy and dont care anything else except cool brand name. Also more expensive camera will land you better charge price over client, I guess that another selling point for some filmaker that already knows how bad red was, but need it's brand name to attract big client.
Can we all agree that RED knows how to pick good names for their cameras? So much better than A7S5T4......
hahaha try bmd's camera name!!!
Leon Constantine oh it’s just a whole paragraph
Great vid, one of the better more to the point reviews I've seen on here. Thanks!
How woudl the red komodo compare as a run and gun travel camera against cameras like the a7siii or gh5?
Michael Bay, Matrix, Soderbergh.... I just watched a trailer with Meryl Streep’s feature shot on it. I think the biggest question you tubers and viewers need to ask themselves is, can they make this camera work, not can this camera work for them. ❤️
8:43 footage starts
I could do it on my smartphone... there are a lots more impressive footages of this camera
2:58 did you think of using bnc t pieces? One end in to an onboard monitor, the other in to a teradek for instance?
Does it crop in 4K & 2K if you're not in slowmo?
Just to make the correction, around 3:00. You can run an SDI out to a monitor that takes SDI in and out. Then you can run that into a wireless system.
Sure, but that removes your option to output different signals to each monitor, right? So wouldn't be able to have one a monitor with your menus and a clean output to another monitor.

Hi. Please can I ask what camera you used to record your video? I love the image quality on it. Thanks.
Fs7 :)

Would love to hear your opinions on the red Komodo compared to the new canon c70
love the quality, dynamic range and red raw 16bit is def a selling point to me.
-_-
Hey, can you please do an Image comparison with the Sony A7Siii and The Komodo? Thankssssss.
Wouldn't the Black Magic Pocket 6k be 100 times more appropriate comparison?
Mike S. No...the A7s 3 is right up to par esp for the price point

2x1 so that it's full screen on a phone

You can have a directors monitor you just have to have a monitor with an out sdi port for your transmitter

What’s the file format like? I heard red historically split files into 4GB chunks, is this still true for the Komodo?

Yes, at minimum it’s looking like closer to $9k with a $6k body, assuming.
I think the monitor could use a bigger battery imo
